How much amoxicillin is safe for a 5 year old at 38 lbs? ## Hi indi, According to the MayoClinic, (if you're intending on using amoxicillin for a typical bacterial infection), the dose for children older than 3 months of age, weighing less than 88lbs is based on body weight and "must be determined by your doctor". However, they go on to note that the "usual" dose is anywhere from 20 to 45mg per 2.2lbs of body weight (per day); to be divided and administered every 8 to 12 hours. You could try to do the math on that in order to get a rough estimate - But ideally, like they said, you should discuss these details with your doctor just to be on the safe side. Hope this helps!

I took the above med. for 10 days....2xday. I had no diarrhea while taking it. Was finished with the med. for 3 wks. & THEN THE DIARRHEA STARTED! Have had it for 5 days now & is just WATER! I was on 1g Augmentin a day for over ten years. Now they say that was too long and that I have Crohns. Could my symptoms come from too much Augmentin for too long? What can I do?
