I went to the ER a little over a week ago for a severe allergic reaction. I'm not sure what caused the reaction but I had woken up with a swollen face and swollen itchy eyes. My left eye was so swollen it was almost completely closed. I had no problems with my breathing. When I arrived at the ER, they put me on on IV with prednisone and some allergy medicine. I went home about an hour later but he prescribed me prednisone pills to start the next day. The first day I was to take 6, then 5, then 4....until the end of day 6. I took the doses for the first 2 days but those 2 days were rough. I couldn't sleep at all. I was miserable. I ended up tapering down faster than prescribed. So the 3rd day I only took 3 and then 2 then 1. I haven't had any since last Thursday. So I took th...

Predizone for peripheral neuropathy? I have been diagnosed and have only been B-12 for low iron. A friend had this and said Predizone helped to cure her. What experience have you had with this condition and with Predizone? ## Prednisone is a steroid class medication, it can help with allergic reactions, inflammation, and some immune disorders, however, it should not be taken without a doctor's approval. The FDA warns that it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, weight changes, mood swings, insomnia, and fluid retention. It may not 'cure' any given condition. Are you on any other medications?

Can someone please tell me where and how to get this cream in the US? I can't get to Mexico. ## Your local swap meet or any Mexican stores (not like north gate or anything like that ) ## @Shari, From what I've read, two of Gelmicin's ingredients (Betamethasone + Gentamicin) appear to be available by prescription-only here in the US. Clotrimazole is also reportedly available OTC or via prescription depending on the dosage. Having said that, I think your best bet may be to make an appointment with a doctor and have he/she write you a script. You could then take that Rx to a (compounding) pharmacy to see if they'll be able to formulate something similar to Gelmicin per your doctor's request. I know this sounds like a hassle but it's still probably more feasible than...

How are you? This cream is actually something that is specially ordered by a patient's doctor, and it must be created by a compounding pharmacy. There really is no standard list of ingredients, it can vary from doctor to doctor, according to what they think will work best for their patient. This combination is usually used for topical, or muscular pain relief, and the FDA lists the side effects as possibly including skin redness, irritation, flaking, and headache. I've been taking naproxen and lyrica for shingles pain, but my blood pressure is up and I have swelling on my left side. Do these meds interact? ## No, I didn't find any interactions listed between them, but it is always best to double check. Both pain, and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory can cause you to have elevated blood pressure, according to FDA and AMA reports. How high is your blood pressure and how much Naproxen are you taking? The FDA also warns that Lyrica can cause hypertension, though it is a very rare side effect. It could be that this just isn't the right medication combination for you. Have you tried an antiviral for the Shingles? It can often help shorten the duration of them, and lessen the symptoms.

Today it's been 3 weeks since my last dose of the methylprednisolone dose pack. I am finally getting some more sleep, but the side effects I am most worried about is my elevated heart rate. Minimal exercise sends it over 100 bpm. When can I expect this to get better? ## You heart rate should go up whenever you are being active. The Mayo Clinic provides a formula for calculating it, subtract your age from 220 and that will give you the maximum heart rate you should hit during exercise/activity. For example, I am 45, subtracting that from 220 gives me 175, so when being active, or exercising, my heart rate should not exceed that number. It is far more dangerous to have a very elevated heart rate, when you are at rest. Have you checked your resting rate? ## My resting rate is on the 80...

Are there any side effects of taking Presidone Medicine? ## All medications carry the risk of causing side effects. The FDA lists the typical ones for Prednisone as possibly including nausea, headache, dizziness, nervousness, fluid retention, weight gain, and insomnia. Is there anything else I can help with? ## How about stomach pain? Is it a side effect of pretazone ## Yes, it can cause stomach pain. Some people simply can't tolerate certain medications due to this. Try taking it with food and plenty of water to potentially reduce the risk. If the stomach pain persists contact your doctor. I've been lucky when taking prednisone myself, as I've noticed virtually no side effects from it; aside from perhaps a slight boost in energy. We're all different though and many peop...
