Amox Clav 875mg Tablets - Almost 4 Months On Same Antibiotic - Building Resistance?
(Newest replies first)

Hello - My Husband has been taking Amox Clav 875 2 x per day for almost 4 months. He has diabetic pressure ulcers on his feet that are healing very slowly. We are going for a liver transplant in a few months and I am concerned that he could be building up a resistance to this drug? Can that happen? Should I rotate him onto another antibiotic for the next few weeks until this heals? Thank you so much for help!!!

Hey, don't try to minimize the Podiatrist professional. After all, there's no business like toe business!
Thank you for the response. I guess my question was more "will this put him at risk of building up an immunity to a certain class of antibiotics in the future? Will amoxicillan stop working if he stays on it too long? I only follow the Doctors orders - BUT - it is the foot Doctor prescribing - and I am just concerned. I know that MRSA is spreading like wildfire in my area - my Father had it. So basically I am asking: The longer you take a specific antibiotic - do you run the risk of building an immunity to it? Does this also put you at more risk for not being able to treat something like MRSA?
Hello, Michelle! How are you and your husband?
It would be best to continue taking the one that has been prescribed by his doctor. It is later, such as when he has surgery, that they will be concerned with using a different one, if an antibiotic is needed.
This medication may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
Is there anything else I can help with?
