I've just been to the chemist for something for my over hyperactive 3year old and got Cipla Actin 4mg. Can I use this to calm him down? ## Hello, Nikky! How are you and child? This is an antihistamine containing Cyproheptadine HCi 4 mg that's actually intended to treat allergic reactions, though it can cause drowsiness and sedation as side effects, as reported by the U.S FDA. It can also cause weight gain. I really think it would be best to consult a doctor, rather than giving your child something recommended by your local chemist, just to be careful. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thanks so much for your reply. The doctor actually said its ok to give it to him as he doesn't eat well but his weight is ok it wouldn't be harmful to pick up more weight. We are b...

I've been taking linoleum 20 mgs for a few years without problems until I started on the new size. I've developed a horrible, itching rash on my arm and torso. Long story short, I found a small supply of the old size tabs and switched back. Within the first week, the rash and itching had subsided. Went back to the small size tab and within a week the rash came back with a vengeance. I tried to talk to my doctor about it but she looked at me like I had two heads and sent me on to a dermatologist. The cream is not helping nor is the allergy med. Would a call to the FDA help?

Did Xyzal change their formula recently. I've been taking Xyzal for years for chronic urticaria. However, as of the last refill (June, 2014), it stopped working. Has anyone had this issue? My doctor wants me to try the generic to see if that works. Is there anything else that works as well as Xyzal? ## Hello, Tommy! How are you? No, but what has most likely happened is that you've developed a tolerance to it, after having been on it for so many years. You'll likely need to take a break from it and try a different medication for awhile. What others have you tried for your uticaria? ## Hi, thanks so much for the reply. The docs have me combining it with Allegra. I'm not sure it's working that well yet. I have to wait until the Prednisone treatment is complete. Other th...

Every single day I wake up and spend about 5 minutes hacking up thick, yellow mucus. It is so thick it keeps me from swallowing and even blowing my nose. I have been to 3 Odontologists and no one has been able to help me. I have tried a number of nasal spays and prescription medications with no success. In contrast my nose runs excessively to the extent that I blow my nose on paper towels instead of tissues. Mucinex doesn't help either. I am desperate for some relief. Can someone help me? ## Have you tried an ENT, or an allergist/immunologist? It may not be directly related to your teeth, or an abnormality there. Allergies can cause the same type of symptoms and that would be outside the realm of an Odontologist. Additional question, do you smoke? ## No, I don't smoke. I have ha...

A compounded white cream prescribed for relief from itching / skin rashes ## Why would my dermatologist prescribe this when I don't itch? He says I have Schamburg's Purpura. May or may not go away. Wouldn't an oral treatment such as Trental (pentoxifylline) be quicker in aiding the purpura? ## Well, what would work best for your condition is something that only your doctor can evaluate and decide. As to this topical treatment, it does treat much more than just the itching. It helps relieve swelling, redness, itching, and many other skin problems.
