I was diagnosed with bipolar, anxiety and depression. I am taking hydroxyzine pam 50 mg 3x daily, oxcarbazepine 300 mg 2x daily, lomotrigine 100 mg 2x daily, and trazonone 100 mg and temazepam 30 mg, each each bedtime. I feel tense and tired thoughout the day. I'm not sleeping soundly, I feel depressed and I'm easily aggitated. Isn't this what I'm being medicated for? I look like I've been up for days! What can I do?

Hello, Draggin! How are you?

Most psychologically active medications cause REM onset latency, which means it takes longer than normal to enter the REM stage of sleep and you spend a shorter amount of time in it. So, it is normal to feel tired and rundown for awhile, though it will usually improve, as your body adjusts to the medications.

Additionally, since you are on quite a few, you most likely have other side effects adding to the mix, such as drowsiness, dizziness and somnolence.

How long have you been taking them?
