Addicts (everyone) Read For Truth About Subs
UpdatedOkay All,
I know many opiate addicts are young, lack education, conduct no personal research, but the facts and questions about Suboxone and Subutex here are so incredibly stupid, it appears I found a sight were the lowest form of opiate addict posts.
Look, I have a Ph.D in Chem, work for one of the top 3 Pharm Companies in the World, and was an opiate addict for over nine years! So, what we all have in common is very weak wills and believing we could control our longing for that opiate (or opiod) induced euphoria. Many opiate addicts have co-dependencies and are also addicted to stimulants (Amphetamines) and Benzos (Xanax, Valium, Klonopin, countless others) so if you are looking for help getting off of these drugs, then see a Doctor because, in the case of benzos or alcohol, withdrawal can lead to death (usually from seizures), while opiate withdrawal won't kill you but will make you wish you were dead.
First, consider if you are abusing medications or are dependent on them. If you have one competent physician (a specialist is better) and use only one pharmacy you may be dependent on these medications and there is nothing wrong with that, if they are required to improve your quality of life, your physician deems it necessary for you to be dependent on these medications, and, if you choose for whatever reason to come off or wean down your use of these medications and your doctor will help in that process, that is not addicition.
Everyone else (90%+ of us) remember ourselves prescribed opiates (commonly Vicodin or Percoet) for a simple surgery and remember the whole world seaming wonderful. We then chased that feeling from doctor to doctor (some of you on the street which I do not even know how is done) to relive our experience and find ourselves 9 years later, in my case, hooked on opiates and opiods (i.e. Tramadol is the only one really in use).
Some of us, it appears by reading your posts, have done some pretty awful things to get the medication but we all have at least lied to others and ourselves. First, if you personally do not want to quit and are seeking 100% to rid yourself of any further opiate based medication, with the exception of some horrible pain inflicting disease or condition, and treating all other physical pain in your life with medication other than opiate, opiods, opium, or derivatives, then piss off. Typically this is nearly all 1st attempt quitters but there are some exceptions. Second, if you are being treated by a Physician who can prescribe Sub and you are selling your pills or trying to use Oxy on the side, piss off. You are taking up limited space with Physicians for those of us who really want to change our lives for the better and when you get caught, and you will, the leftist governments of Europe and now the US will attempt to regulate Sub(text)(one) use further or remove it from the market entirely.
Subutex can be initiated much quicker after a patient takes their last hit of heroin or oral dose of a short acting-opiate, as there is no Antagonist included, like Suboxone, that would make your initial withdrawal symptoms worse. Probably 12-15 hours off your opiate of choice and the Subutex can be used. However, usually mosts trained Physicians will only initiate treatment on Subutex, as without the ANTAGONIST in Suboxone, one could snort or shoot Subutex. Usually after one-in office dose, and 2-3 take home Subtex take home tabs, the patient is given a prescription and pre-determined amount of Suboxone to continue on when there is no more fear of it's ANTAGONIST causing problems with the last dose of your opiate drug you were abusing.
Unfortunately, there are generics for Subutex, so if your insurance company will not cover Suboxone or the manufacturer denies you assistance funds (there are way to many requests to meet them all), Subutex is a much better deal. However, if you know you doctor, have one with sympathy who can trust you, you may get Subutex (generic) over the more expensive, but 100% quality controlled, and more expensive, Suboxone). If not at the start of treatment, maybe if you are urine tested, and clean all the time, generic Subutex may be entrusted to you by your physician.
Everyone, through March 31, 2010 is entitled to the $75-savings card, good for every monthly prescription on new Suboxone Film. It's a nice savings, your doctor will give you the card or you can print it from the official Suboxone website, and the film is a novel way of administering Suboxone, or any type of sub-lingual medication for that matter. The film is placed under the tounge and then dissolved over the next 5-7 minutes and absorbed by the mucossa under the tounge. DO NOT SWALLOW THE MEDICATION ITSELF (THE SALIVA CANNOT BE HELPED), EAT,DRINK, OR SPEAK FOR ABOUT 10 minutes after you put the film under your tounge. This will insure optimal absorption of the medication. Moreover, if you get nausea and vomit during the day, by going under the tounge, Suboxone goes right into the blood stream (never through the stomach- maybe a small amount in the saliva you swallow but it does not matter for treatment purposes) so vomiting will not have any effect on the absorption of the medication. Moreover, the film has been said in trials to have a slightly better taste, dissolves 25% faster, and releases more of the medication as opposed to the old orange pills.
There is so much more I could add to this essay. The goal for some might be lifetime use, as quitting is just not possible in some long term heavy using addicts. This is much safer as long as you be honest in the program. You will not get high so if you are unprepared for that, then you are not ready to quit abusing these meds (as said above) and perhaps more time or rock-bottom is required. You may also be prescribed small amounts of benzos (i.e. Xanax, Valium) by your Suboxone doctor to help with anxiety and sleep as well as a high-blood pressure medication called Clonidine (cheap and generic) that helps with many physical opiate withdrawal symptoms even without the Suboxone). They are all okay to take as long as your Suboxone Doctor has prescribed them to you or knows about them.
Getting of Suboxone, if not on it for life, is different for everyone. Some want a longer more tapered schedule, some want the crash 1 month course. I believe it is important to find the dose you are stabalized on for a few weeks and maybe cut back 1-2 mgs every 1-3 weeks (huge range as we all are different). You can always up-your dose if you and your doctor feel you need to go slower. The goal is to get down to the lowest amount you can possibly take. Jumping from 2mgs to 0 is a large jump and tell your doctor you are not comfortable with this. With the film, you can cut slices off and cut them in half, and as the medication is evenly distributed everywhere you can get down to .2/mg ever day. This makes a huge difference, trust me. Perhaps after a week, .2mgs/every other day and then stop? Use the openess and freedom you have with your doctor to do this once and right.
Always expect the wore physical withdrawal symptoms 2-3 days after your last dose, no matter what the strength. You will have common withdrawal symptoms of chills, runny stools, nausea, leg kicking, etc. than may last for 3 weeks. However, with a proper taper, Suboxone withdrawal may be a bit longer than say Percocet, but it is mild and can be temporarily treated with short prescriptions o

I would like to wish all of you addicts the best. I am on very high doses of Oxy 80's and now we've added Fentanyl patches 50 mg plus oxy IR 20 mg's to the list. I had a car accident, and all was amazing with the world before the accident. I beleive it sent my system into some kind of frenzy, as I cannot walk or move without pain throughout my body. I am in constant pain, low energy and have a very limited life. I need the medication to make it through each day because of the Chronic Pain and Fibromyalgia, though it wasn't recognized by the courts 10 years ago, it is very much recognized now. But, all of the medication has a price...how can I have children with all of this medication in my system? I am engaged with no definite wedding date, because, of the pain, then child bearing, how can I do all of this with all of this medication. Of course, this leads to severe depression, and the only good thing is that we aren't hurting financially...my spouse to be has an amazing job. My point is, I wish you all the best who are addicts. I don't take the medication to get high, and never have. I only want the pain to stop and sometimes it does, most of the time it doesn't. I cry as I write this, because I just pray for the pain to end..sometimes, I think I will wake up and not feel any pain and it will magically disappear...hasn't happened yet in 2 years and I have just turned 37. If there is anyone else out there who has Chronic Pain, or Fibromyalgia or dealing with the unbearable pain I deal with everyday, please read my post and respond. I need to know how to get the pain to stop. Or if anyone knows of any secret remedies or studies that have been done that have helped Chronic Pain sufferers, I would be grateful to hear from you.
Thanks,
I feel for you very much. I also have fibro. Mornings are the worst. I've found that if I workout really good and pursue through that pain the mornings aren't as bad. Still there, but not terrible. I've also heard that dead sea salt baths are great for out situation. I'm actually picking some up later to try it out. Isn't it amazing that with all the modern technology and advances in medicine, they can't find a cure for constant agonizing pain?
Thanks for the long and informative post, it is much appreciated and I am sure it will help many.

I'm just adding some links, so people can read more details on the medications.
Amethyst, since pain can be caused by different things for everyone and it can be felt at different intensity levels, there will never be an actual cure for it. All we can do is treat it and hope for the best.
Are there any questions or comments?
I just happened across this and I'm wondering how you are? I know this is an old post....I hope you've found relief.
