I have had two refills of Adderall 20 mg that was manufactured by Teva/barr (Teva) and it seems to have much less medication in each pill. Refills by another manufacturer work. This is ridiculous, and where do we report Teva and who can check each pill for amount for medication? I would gladly donate some of my worthless ones to the FDA?

I would definitely be interested in trying Vyvanse at some point! Next month I am going to go back to my Barr IR since it had been working fine. I only wanted to try XR because I thought it would be the same, but for a longer stretch to cover the day and it wasn't for me personally. Your information didn't come up because I don't think the board will allow private contact info though. I know what you mean. I have taken the barr (30mg) for 8 years and I've had no problem but recently the same meds have no effect. I notified Teva who is now barr or barr is now Teva and they launched an investigation. I gave them a sample of my current prescription and they seem concerned. They even offered to pay for my new script but they wont admit they changed the formula. My Doctor said that Obama is making drug manufactures use less stimulants in their medications. She also told me that if you make less than 34,000.00 you can possibly qualify for free vivanse for 12mo. Your doctor will have to give you the paperwork or you can message me at {edited for privacy} and I'll help you out. I've also heard that the name brand adderall has also lost its ability to help symptoms.

Chris- I wanted to update you on my Shire XR capsules. I discovered that if I open the capsule and take half of it with one of my Barr 5mg IR in the morning I have no side effects. I am still intending on going back to my Barr IR tabs for my prescription next month as they worked fine for me. I think that even though I am taking half the dose I normally would by using half of the Shire XR capsule as opposed to the whole, I feel the positive effects because ingesting the entire capsule makes the medicine remain in my system too long and the therapeutic benefits are over powered by too much of the l-amp which lingers in my system longer than the d-amp in the meds. I found the medical insert that Shire has with the XR capsules on-line and the insert has a section on the absorption and elimination rate of each ingredient in the med, and it says that the l-amp takes a few more hours to eliminate through your urine so once the d-amp is gone and only l-amp is left it makes you feel a little bit wired, intense, ect.

Hi, Katie! I wanted to let you know that Shire sold the rights to "name brand" IR Adderall to Teva/Barr around 2009 when they lost their patent protection so since around 2009 there has not been any such thing as actual name brand IR Adderall. Shire still holds the patent for XR Adderall till 2017 or 2018 (I forget), so the only Shire produced name brand Adderall that has been available since 2009 in in XR capsules. So if you were taking name brand IR Adderall 3 years ago it was actually made by Teva/Barr.

Hi Kim,
I was diagnosed with ADHD 3 years ago and began taking name brand adderall provided for me through the military pharmacy and I was taking 30mg IR (worked amazing, controlled all of my symptoms). A couple of months later I stopped taking the adderall for personal reasons. Just last week, I went to the doctor to begin taking the adderall again and was given a script for 30mg IR by Barr. I started taking 30mg in the morning an hour before school and felt NOTHING but a little bit of tachycardia. None of my symptoms were controlled. After a few days of taking the 30's, I decided to double it and take 60mg to see if I just needed to up my dose. After taking two of the 30's, I still feel nothing and it has been 6 hours since I took them. There is NO way that this medication is even close to name brand Adderall. I have NO tolerance since I have not taken anything in 3 years. Will be consulting my doctor for a new script for name brand adderall to see if I can get back on the stuff that worked before.

I am still unsure of how I feel... I wanted to take XR so that I could take it right when I woke up. I usually wake up at 8am. I work 3p-11p. My normal routine was take 30mg IR Barr at 10-11am, take afternoon topper of 10mg IR at 1-2p. I usually feel driven and motivated, not speedy. I am not even aware that I took medication. I eat regularly, remember to drink fluids often, and start feeling sleepy around 9-10p, get home and am asleep at about 1am. I used to need melatonin, then started Trazadone to sleep. The Trazadone made me groggy and depressed feeling so I cut out all sleep meds and am fine without them. Up until 2 months ago I was titrating my levels each month and playing with times for dosages, dosage levels, ect. I noticed slight side effects each time I changed something. My Therapuetic dose that I have discovered is like what I imagine "normal" people feel like. When I first started meds 6 months ago, I had the whole irritability when coming off, insomnia, appetite suppression (just kind of grossed out by most things on my plate), slight speedy euphoria, smoked like a billion cigarettes. When I reached what worked for me two months ago that all went away and I loved just feeling normal, but a happier and motivated me that could actually accomplish things and not remain in my house all day like a hermit either OCD cleaning yet not accomplishing anything, or carefully conserving all of my energy like a hibernating bear for my work shift. The reason I wanted to switch to XR is I was hoping to take the dose right away when I woke up instead of waiting till 10-11am with IR (because I don't want my sleepy time to fall in the middle of my work shift). I went through hell to get this damn name brand XR prescription and my insurance paid for it because of my misfortune with basically any generic besides the Barr 5mg IR tabs (I won't even try the Teva 10s because they made me feel weird which is what brought me to this forum and thread in the first place). I have taken the name brand for 3 days now. (30mg Adderall XR at 8:30am). Afternoon topper of two Barr 5mg IR tabs around 1-3pm. So far the name brand XR (by Shire) feels like nothing for about an hour. Then I feel slightly chatty and want to smoke 4,000 cigarettes. I would say about 3 hours goes by but feels like 1 hour. I smoke and Google things on my phone (instead of being motivated and productive). I only then remember to take my afternoon topper because I feel a change in myself like I am so starving and dehydrated that I know from experience that I must nourish myself in order to not feel side effects, but it's like I waited too long and my appetite suppression thing that I experienced in the beginning is back so I literally have to force myself to eat a banana and drink some water. Then my IR doesn't really feel like it kicks in.

I just feel a little more intense and a couple hours. After the initial 3 hours of feeling happy but unmotivated and hyper focusing on Google or online shopping while smoking a pack of cigarettes I notice that I am a little edgy. I feel like my eyelids are open extra wide, but I only notice that if I'm around people. I feel kind of annoyed by everyone around me (I work with disabled people and usually find joy in partaking in their day to day activities and helping them shower, eat, ect.). I get tired still, but in a crabby way, not like I had gotten used to (tired but in a happy, calm, sleepy way and just generally happy with whatever comes my way). I will say though that these same side effects that I am currently experiencing did happen for the first couple months of getting used to my Barr 5mg IR tabs, so I have hope that I am just getting used to the brand switch. It seems like the Shire namebrand XR makes me hyper focus but without motivation like Barr IR gave me. I didn't hyper focus either with the Barr IR. I just focused in the way I imagine a non ADD person might be able to. Just enough to accomplish things in a timely manner and finish them efficiently. I am just hoping that since the Adderall XR Shire is made with better ingredients than most generics that I am just adjusting again and that is all. Today (10:10am here right now) I have not taken it yet. I am going to open the capsule today and take it directly (maybe the gelatin capsule is an allergen for me with the edible ink on it?). I'm going to take 5mg of IR Barr with it as well, and 5mg IR for afternoon topper instead of taking 10 total in afternoon because the XR of 30mg is essentially only releasing 15mg instantly to my blood stream and I am used to having 30 released in morning. I have found in my experience that the earlier I take my dose and having most of it in the first dose followed with proper hydration and food has always worked best for me. I actually found myself eventually eating a little more than I did before meds once I adjusted to Barr IR regiment. I think because the Barr has more saccharine (sugar) that maybe that helps with physical motivation and maybe that is why some people feel like they crash harder on Barr because they are having a super crash? That's just a thought I've had recently. My insurance completely covered my name brand XR after the Dr sent in the PO for dispense as written. I'm approved for 3 years of name brand XR and I am really hoping it works out because it just sounds much better for your body without all the random fillers from other countries like the generics have these days.

Mrs G, how do you like the XR by Shire? I understand you're having side effects however do you feel motivated to work, study etc? I'm thinking of making the switch as well. Is it expensive?

Hey Chris, I can totally relate to what you're saying! I wonder if you go on the FDA website and search "Teva Amphetamine Salts" if you will find anything? It seems like a lot of people have noticed formulation changes. I have taken Barr IR 5mg tabs for the past 6 months and they are the only thing I don't have weird reactions to. I switched to namebrand XR by Shire a few days ago for my morning dose, and I have noticed side effects. I'm hoping they are just an adjustment to the brand switch. I did notice that when my doctor wrote the prescription for namebrand she wrote that I have an allergy for "amphetamine aspartate" after trying the actavis brand of XR with really bad side effects (no Therapuetic benefit AT ALL or notice that I took any meds for the first 6 hours and then sudden onset paranoia, anxiety, flu type feeling, ect. I looked up the amphetamine aspartate and it appears that certain manufacturers use that (Sandoz, Core Pharmacy), and others use aspartate amphetamine monohydrate instead (including Shire, Barr, Teva). I wonder if that somehow effects us each personally with delivery of meds. Also, depending on the dyes used in the pills, and apparently how tight they press the pill- that could cause allergies, and delivery problems. I am willing to bet they changed a dye in your generic and maybe you have an allergy to the new one? I would see if you could look up the NDC on your old script to find the label with the ingredients list, and so the same for your new script!!

I wanted to clarify what I was trying to say in my first post. I was responding to Kim's claim that we've grown a tolerance to the Adderall. About a month ago I got my script filled and noticed a different shape to my Teva 30MG Adderall. It was the same oval peach colored pill but was skinnier top to bottom. I didnt think anything of it and continued taking my normal dose however, it didnt have the same affect. I break the 30mg up into 4's then take as needed. So I still had some of my older prescription mixed in with the new batch and the effect wasnt too bad as I was taking both batches. Well I stopped taking the old batch and began the new and I went into withdraws. I felt awake but not motivated to do anything at first and then as the week went on I couldnt do anything other than sleep and eat. If I take the new batch I'm angry, I have anxiety, dont like to be around people, even worse I dont want to do any work in school or at my job. This has never happened. This is actually the opposite of who I am, I'm always super happy and love people and doing work. I also noticed the sweet taste is gone and there's a bitter taste to the Adderall. I've been on the medication for 8 years so I know the difference. NEVER have I had this happen. I went to the pharmacy to talk with the pharmacist, who didnt notice the shape change as well as he hadn't heard of any formula change. I showed him the the new shape to the pill and asked if anyone had complained yet, he said no. This pharmacy is in between to major Universities so I assume the new batch just arrived and everyone is still trying to figure out what happened. I went back to our school (Utah Valley University) nurse who did say others were noticing the difference and asking for new prescriptions. I notified the FDA and submitted a complaint to Teva. They called back asking several questions then assured me there wasn't a formula change. I've been battling withdraw symptoms on the new medication, sleeping and eating all day and not motivated to do anything. There's an active ingredient or filler that has been taken out which is the very ingredient thats made this medication work for me over the years. CAN ANYONE RELATE TO WHAT I'M SAYING OR AM I CRAZY. ALSO HAS ANYONE MADE A SWITCH TO A NEW WORKING FORM OF ADDERALL?

Kim, I have both the old and new pill 30mg from Teva/Barr. When I take the old formula it works the new makes me sick. Its that simple. Ive been fine for 8 years on the meds and notice a little difference if the med is older but for the most part its good enough not to say anything until now. There is a huge difference.

Makes sense. Teva bought Barr a couple years ago. I usually have 5mg Barr IR. My Dr changed it to 10mg IR. CVS gave me Teva this time around and it is all side effects. It feels like nothing for a couple hours and then I feel like I have ADD worse than when I don't take any medication. I can't hold a thought, I interrupt people, I start 17 things at once, and I blurt out rude things to others. Plus I feel either starving or nauseous after I eat. I don't urinate as much though. My pharmacy won't take them back.

It is my understanding that there is no longer a name brand Adderall IR. only XR put out by Shire? Barr is supposed to be the closest generic to original brand name Adderall originally manufactured by Shire till they lost the patent. So only generic IR Adderalls... ?

I take it for ADD, not to feel high. Pills from one bottle are non-effective or too strong. I'm on 30 mg, 1/2 tab b.i.d., and the half I took Thursday made me too dizzy to stand up. I KNOW when I get one that's substandard and noticed the difference in strengths with my first bottle of Adderall. I've complained to the FDA about Teva, a waste of time since they let Teva test their own products. Look up Forbes article from 10/10/12 on the internet about Teva's fake Wellbutrin, that should scare everyone. Please don't assume we're addicts looking for a high, some of us depend on these medications and take them as prescribed by our doctors.

Teva products don't work. I've complained about every Teva generic. The Adderall I'm taking is hit and miss. One day it doesn't work, another day it's too strong. Teva is the only company that makes Adderall and they do a shoddy job. The FDA needs to get off their asses and test ALL Teva products, like I asked them to do last year. Do your research before you accuse people of being addicts or looking for a high.

I am taking 20 mg of the name brand twice a day and still hungry. I recently read that it could be too much acid in my stomach mimicking hunger pains and to take tums before the Adderall. The amount of hunger pains seems to change day to day.

Last week or so Teva recalled two batches of amphetamine salts 10mg pills that have been distributed for the past two years. They made "uneven batches" which made the effects from the pills different from script to script. It is likely that this happens or happened often and only these two lot numbers have been reported enough to get them recalled.
