Adderall Manufactured By Teva Not Working (Page 61)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have had two refills of Adderall 20 mg that was manufactured by Teva/barr (Teva) and it seems to have much less medication in each pill. Refills by another manufacturer work. This is ridiculous, and where do we report Teva and who can check each pill for amount for medication? I would gladly donate some of my worthless ones to the FDA?

LOL SarahAda! Although it's really not funny but your suggestion is. ;-)

You can submit an FDA Medwatch about your side effects, but don't expect any changes any time soon, if at all. FDA already accepted their/Teva data, and it will take a lot of serious adverse events reported before they pay any attention to it.

Look for generic Adderall by Sandoz/Eon. Mostly positive results from their meds. Teva -- I stay away from them and request another generic manufacturer. I think they are the largest generic company in the world, but I don't know how, except for the fact that they probably use the cheapest active and inactive ingredients they can find and the pharmacy distributors love that!

The only drug I see for Adderall at Teva is still generic.

"Teva Introduces First Generic Adderall XR® Capsules in the United States.

Jerusalem, Israel, April 2, 2009 - Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. announced today that it has commenced commercial shipment of its generic version of Shire Pharmaceuticals' Adderal..."

When I replied that Shire advised me to contact Teva I was talking about the Instant Release. That was the reason I put IR. I would hope their "name brand" 30mg IR is better than their generic, which is actually the old Barr. Pill logo B 974

I believe that the difference is 15% ( + - 15%) in terms of variation. This was established by the Hatch-Waxman Act.

I don't know why Shire would be saying Teva manufactured (and would then be the patent holder) Adderall 30 mg XR. Even Teva's website refers to their product as a generic version:

tevagenerics.com/product/dextroamphetamine-saccharate-amphetamine-aspartate-dextroamphetamine-sulfate-and-amphetamine-sulfate-extended-release-capsules-cii

Generics must have the same active ingredients as the Brand Name, but inactive ingredients/fillers can be different. Regarding Generic being allowed a 20% difference from Brand (from jckinswo), I have seen so many different numbers/percentages on this, I'm not sure which one is really correct. I think the 20% is the one I see the most.

However, that 20% does not refer to the formulation. It refers to bioavailability, which basically means how much of the active ingredient actually reaches the bloodstream and the rate and extent of absorption. Which still is not a great thing when it comes to mind altering drugs and many other drugs treating serious conditions. If only 80% of the active ingredient in a particular generic reaches the bloodstream, they might as well call it as it is - you are only getting 80% of the active ingredient.

I spoke to Shire Pharmaceuticals and they advised me that TEVA produced the name brand 30mg IR Adderall. I was never advised of this when I presented my prescription for Adderall. I was always given generic with the B 974 logo. I found out yesterday that appeared to be the old Barr brand. I have been having allergic reactions to this pill and did not realize it was the problem until I stopped it for 2 days and used some pieces of the old Activist. My problem disappeared. I am talking about the burning eyes and burning mouth syndrome. I have tried to talk to TEVA to see if their Name Brand that had DP 30 logo contained the very same active and inactive ingredients. They would not say. They referred me to their web site which list some things and just says other ingredients. When I found out they brought Activist I told them to don't go messing up their formula like theirs, even though Activist had problems which resulted in a recall at the end. I think that beside the inactive ingredients one needs to look at the list of Active contents TEVA list it contains, not just the word Amphetamine . Every one is different but the TEVA B 974 will not produce a clear mind to concentrate and now I find that my medical problems started 5/2016 the month I was put on this brand. For me I could tolerate the pill a little better than CORE or AURBINDO but it has medical issues from some of it's ingredients. I know the Shire Brand works at least it did 2 years ago. It just prevents me from getting sleep from being long acting. If you run across a orange pill with logo AD 30 that will be when SHIRE produced that formula. It is no longer registered with the FDA.

In reply to Izzy on Teva and to Cheryl on Sandoz. Izzy, they (Teva) did have a great product (through the purchase of a company whose name eludes me at the same time they bought Barr) about 10 yrs ago but either reformulation or lack of quality control or both have changed it a lot and not for the better. Sandoz was my number one (and still is) until all the chain pharmacies here (north of DFW in TX) stopped carrying and stopped special orders. "Everyone" except Walgreens (Teva) started stocking only Core, Malkinkodt, etc. (lowest cost for them) about a year ago. Tried them (I'm 60 w/inattentive and two "kids" the same and have done research, my livelihood before other medical probs stopped that, for years) and either no effect or worse. Finally went to a small local family pharmacy (Community Pharmacy on Justin in Lewisville for anyone in this area) and they stock said they'd continue to stock Sandoz 30mg IR (can't afford the XR from Shire or Teva). Yay! As I mentioned in another post, if was wonderful feeling layers of brain sludge lift and to feel focused, clear and motivated again.

In reply to Cheryl concerning Sandoz being produced by the "original", Shire; that's great to know and explains a lot. I couldn't figure out why Teva/Barr wasn't producing a consistently good IR when their XR is supposed to be so good. I knew Shire was only producing XR after selling IR rights years back but again, couldn't afford it w/high deductible insurance. As for CorePharma users, maybe they've reformulated and tightened up quality but for me and many, it was crap (last used 9 months ago). Experience really seems to be divided but they either had no effect or made me a zombie. For those being introduced to Mylan's IR through CVS and soon, other chains: I haven't tried it and won't. Mylan is a profit-only company. That's their first and only concern as can be seen in recent news about their massive price increases (from $50 per dose to $300+) for the generic (no competition) EpiPen which is a literal lifesaver for many kids and adults with lifethreatening allergies. That increase happened over about 6 years and the CEO is super-proud (she's earning 8X more in the meantime). Great if you're a Mylan shareholder, sucks if you or your kid's life depends on it and you've no or limited (high deductible) insurance.

My guess is they'll try to outdo CorePharma on the price side to pick up more chain contracts and market share and keep the quality low. Problem for "us" is that the FDA, the Feds, the media, many Drs., Psychs, Pharmacists, and patients think all generics are basically the same and equivalent to the original. As many of us have known for a long time, that isn't the case. If I remember right, the FDA allows up to a 20% variation in the formulation which (even if the actual is half that) is huge in something as variable as brain chemistry. No problem in my prostate meds or many other generics but they don't "get it" for something many don't believe is real in the first place. Someday I hope that blood testing and/or other methods of diagnosis will take the guesswork out of it and also provide for individual needs (my AD"H"D and my associated co-morbidities are not your ADHD and co-morbids, if any, and my daughter's is not either, etc. etc.). But we're not even close on something universal and cheap. Sooo, we do what we can to remain functional.

Don't forget to "take a break" from your meds, no matter which one works for you. Effectiveness always goes down over time if you don't manage things (or remember to manage them in my case :). Good luck to all and like others have said, file complaints and keep posting your experiences (jokers and trolls not included). This system only responds to loud squeaky wheels served up in mass quantities. Also, if you're of voting age, this election will be huge. Don't sit it out. There isn't a great choice and a "moral" vote is a luxury for another time. That's life for now. Hold your nose and pick the one who will damage the least and knows the current system and hopefully gain us some small wins. Nuff said.

@Izzy (Post #180),

Not sure what you are asking with "Teva Name Brand Adderall IR is a proper formulation with Brand standardization." Teva product would be a generic of brand Adderall. Seems that Shire also had an agreement with Teva and Impax to supply them with generic Adderall, but Shire and Impax also had legal issues, so not sure what happened there. No surprise. I've been in pharmaceuticals for 25 years, and pharma has become a juggling act. Nothing is stable anymore. It would take hours of research to get a perfect conclusion to generic Adderall.

With everything I have read about users on Sanofi's generic Adderall, everyone had good results with Sanofi generic, that is the one I will continue to recommend for my son. If it's a problem, I'll be back on Mr/s. Google. ;-)

I personally have never cared for Teva Pharma and I don't know a thing about this Impax who Shire was supposed to be supplying product.

Not sure how much time you want to spend researching this, but this is a good website. You can get more information from the actual label, including who manufactured a product and where; who is distributing it; etc.

Teva Name Brand Adderall IR is a proper formulation with Brand standardization? The gold standard these days? Thank you for sharing

FYI, if Medical Daily's article is correct -- Sandoz generic Adderall XR is manufactured by Shire. (Sandoz doesn't make their generic; they distribute the generic provided Shire.)

And Shire is the manufacturer of brand Adderall XR. I would think Sandoz generic would then be the best generic, just like Greenstone generic xanax is the best generic xanax (alprazolam) -- And Greenstone is owned by Pfizer, the manufacturer of brand Xanax.

Shires patent don't end until I believe 2017. I will be getting it from a small family owned pharmacy. But if you have a Rite Aid pharmacy were you live they will order it for you.

Mallinckrodt generic Adderall, in my opinion, of all generic companies, is the absolute worst. Avoid this manufacturer. I reported them to the FDA for lack of efficacy.

This has been the first reply showing the burning eyes. It is also happening to me just like acid has been poured on the eyeball. Mine is Teva B974. 30mg. I plan to go back to Shire 30mg xr. At least theirs worked.

I am taking 4 10mg tabs adderall morning ,,20 afternoon, and 10 in the evening, mine is suppose to come from Sandoz Pharm. However over the last year I can just sleep right through my adderall. All other medical problems have been addressed and ruled out , so I am trying to figure out what they have done to the adderall.

Yes, I have had the same response with the burning eyes, severe dry mouth and total space outness to were I cannot think straight to save my life. My body aches and I feel as though I have the flu on top of everything else. Not good. Im worried about not being able to get decent generic adderall. I had Costco order me the Sandoz and its very weak. The pharmacies try to tell you that its all the same, but it isnt.

Hi there, the Teva name brand is significantly different than the Teva generic. I had side effects from Teva generic; and oddly enough, the only generic I did not have side effects from was Barr; however they are owned by Teva. Supposedly, Barr generic has the same ingredient as Teva generic...NOT! That Teva generic did a number on me. I even started to get fast, uncontrollable twitches on my right thumb. I reported them to the FDA. I received a call from Teva, twice, to call them. I did and left a message. Still waiting for their call from ten days ago. It's all a veil of illusion that they will get right on it. I like my Vyvanse for now. On another note, everyone should read Brave New World. It's a difficult read but it's interesting how in the 1930's this author, Huxley, wrote about a society given meds to calm their emotions. At times I think we have a new world order government think tank, like rand corporation, that read all these dystopian society novels and systematically have created this world as rendered by these novels. I'll probably have the CIA, NSA, and all the government acronyms spying on me. This society is controlled by consumer goods, The food industry, I-phones, real estate, the standardized testing companies, and of course, big pharma. You can't even attain accurate information from medical journals because pharma companies pay the authors to write favorable pages. We live in a real web of lies.

Teva is much better (in my opinion) to that of Corepharma
