Adderall Manufactured By Teva Not Working (Page 5) (Top voted first)

Updated

I have had two refills of Adderall 20 mg that was manufactured by Teva/barr (Teva) and it seems to have much less medication in each pill. Refills by another manufacturer work. This is ridiculous, and where do we report Teva and who can check each pill for amount for medication? I would gladly donate some of my worthless ones to the FDA?

Please…everyone who feels strongly compelled that something is very wrong with Teva Generic Adderall IR, please take just a few moments to complete a Medwatch complaint on the FDA’s webpage.

The more people who take this action, it will raise a flag for them to actually investigate.

So please do this if you feel compelled to..

Re: Prescribed for ADHD (# 1218) Expand Referenced Message

Great points. I completely agree--the FDA/DEA/Big Pharma/Big Cannabis (yes, this now exists in states that regulate the stuff) may very well be working in collusion to make Schedule 2's useless and crappy, since the vast majority of opioids, benzodiazepines, and stimulants are all off patent and will therefore not make bank for shareholders.

The DEA has authorized vast increases of raw materials for the manufacture of cannabinoids and psychedelics, with the continued decrease of active ingredients for schedule 2 stimulants/benzodiazepines/opioids. This is right in line with the push in mainstream media and online medical advertising for cannabis-as-manna-from-heaven, opioids/benzos as "evil", pain/anxiety/cognitive and executive function issues as "a normal part of life that people must accept", and LSD/MDMA/etc as the " latest frontier" in "medication assisted teletherapy"--It's like the twilight zone!

The trouble is, those orchestrating this b.s. KNOW that it will be difficult to convince people (other than the sadly-increasing demographic of those who are easily brainwashed via media "nudging" or trust corrupted authority more than their own sensory perceptions) to abandon classes of medication known for generations to help pain (opioids), anxiety/insomnia (benzodiazepines), fatigue/executive function (amphetamines).

Nor will they find relief with their replacements--psychedelics and cannabinoids ad nauseum, as well as "me too" patents of gabapentinoids, orexin antagonists, melatonin receptor agonists, next-generation neuroleptics, and everything else and the kitchen sink from the phunny pharm phactory in India or China.

In a fair world and a fair market, medicines would contain the right amount of active ingredient, and inactive ingredients would not impair bioavailability or cause negative health consequences. Doctors would prescribe with the goal of improving the patient's health/quality of life and stopping their suffering, without interference. The patient would come first.

In that situation, doctors and patients would continue to utilize what had worked for generations of sufferers. Big Pharma's new meds would largely prove ineffective or even dangerous, and shareholders would be s&!+ out of luck.

But we live in a clown world dystopia of regulatory capture and BigTech "social" media hiveminds. Critical thinking--instead of blindly trusting and parroting the (paid-off) "experts"--is itself seen as a dangerous malady.

In our world, shareholder wealth is paramount. Successfully treated patients taking established medication known for decades to not harm other bodily systems are detrimental to increasing profit. In fact, the last thing that those who line their pockets in the illness industry want is a population who have easy access to comprehensive, safe and consistent treatments for their pain, fear, anxiety, fatigue, insomnia, or executive function/impulsivity issues.

In this scenario, the strategy is assured to work: Vilify Schedule 2 medications and assume the patients who need them are disbelieved. Make them difficult to obtain due to quotas, fearful doctors and pharmacists, and insurance/legal logistics, while advertising the new drugs and rewarding doctors who talk them up. If this still isn't enough, tampering with effectiveness of these entire classes of medications will force the patients' hand in giving them up out of frustration, nailing the old-school med coffin closed. The patients then have no choice but to buy the newly patented, quickly FDA approved and DEA compliant, potentially illness-worsening or promoting snake oil. As with so much else nowadays, the house cleans up while everyone else loses.

I have graves disease. My thyroid was removed and I now depend on thyroid medication. Long and short, I have not been the same. Symptoms of ADD and narcolepsy made my life miserable, and so, for many years now I have been helped by dextroamphetimine,15 mg, brown and clear capsules by Barr. My last prescription had brown and clear capsules with the 956
Barr writing, but somehow they looked different. I didn't have any of the old ones to compare, but I did see the company written on the bottle was Teva, not Barr. OK. It has now been 2 weeks using the Teva meds, questioning myself about how I was taking them etc. because their effect is minimal. I can sleep taking 15 mg. and cannot stay awake past 12 hours taking one every 3 hours. I went to the internet and am happy to find I am not crazy, that the Teva capsules are more thanM likely poor quality. But, this is a struggle dealing with a change....to what? And always a hassle with my doctor.

I have had issues with Teva and prefer Barr. I have called many pharmacies with no luck. I have express scripts and they take care of my medication coverage. I called them and let them know that I rather use the generic xr version from Barr. They had me ask my Dr for a new prescription specifying that I only receive my medication from Barr labs as a manufacturer. I have to mail it to express scripts and they will process as a special order and mail the medication to me directly.

12 years ago I was given Adderall 30 mg x2 a day and it worked great. I could focus, lost weight, kept it off, had energy, no mood swings, etc. In 2009 I unknowingly was switched to generic by Teva and for the past few years we have done IR, XR all different doses and tried Vyvanse but nothing seemed to work the same. I am actually starving most of the time within an hour of taking the generic (amphetamine salts) and have gained weight (over 10 lbs in less than a month) so my doctor finally agreed to put me back on brand name Adderall (after long fights with insurance). Today I picked up my new Rx and realized that although it says Adderall it looked quite similar to the generic one so after research and reading the paperwork I realized that it is still made by Teva. I took one to see how I would feel because I don't want any surprises at work tomorrow from the change and I am not sure if I can tell a difference or if it is all in my head. I am still hungry and tired. I am hoping it is all in my head and that even though it is made by Teva that fact that it is name brand instead of the salts it will work better. Does anyone know if I should expect the same feeling because it was the same manufacturer even though it is name brand vs. generic or will there be a difference because even though it is the same manufacturer the actual make up is different? I really feel like all of this stress was not worth it if they are keeping me with the same manufacturer and it has the same results. Someone please give me some good news... I really want to feel better, have energy, be able to focus and not be hungry all the time.

I think Kim must be from Teva. There is no way you take their current formulation and not notice the previous formulation was 4x stronger. You don't go from effective to resistant overnight, but I did and my stepdaughter did. My stepdaughter had such a problem with ADHD behavior at school the school started giving her stars for each class to encourage good behavior. Her results were so-so until she went on medication. After that, for months she was getting five stars out of five at school 80% of her time there (4 days out of 5 she got five stars, the 5th day four). The new batch arrived and we both started it. I suddenly needed 3 or 4 times the dose and she, a seven year old, instantly went back to her baseline, pre-medication score at school of an average of 2 or 3 stars. We didn't tell her the medication was a new batch and we didn't tell the teacher who was scoring her until a few weeks later.

If anyone is currently getting different results then it is because their local pharmacy is still carrying the old stock. My child is going to be missing her education and I'm damned if I'm going to raise her dose because next thing Teva will multiply the active ingredient by 4 and my child will have a heart attack.

Accurate research is difficult to obtain. I am now 84, could not spell ADHD until I was diagnosed in the military. That was almost 60 years ago. As I look back at my youth the fifth grade was my enlightenment. I had all the symptoms. Many of my fellow adhd participants know what I mean. In the first four grades I was the outstanding student every year. After that year it took me six years to graduate from high school. Then I was introduced to ADDERALL. I won't bore you with my success. The adderall in those days to me was very effective. Today I sincerely believe that big pharma not only controls the ingredients, but the manufacturing process, the cost to the user and perhaps the Government folks that approve every aspect of the ADDERALL supply. I do not know the truth of those words. I do know that anyone, female or male, young or old that suffers from this malady has a difficult time coping with everyday life. Greedy, selfish human beings are the perpetrators of this crime.

A few days ago I called CVS main office because for the past 3 months, the CVS in my town has been getting those junk round pink CorePharma pills. When I asked the girl who checked in my Rx to be filled, I asked her if they could get the Barr/TEVA Orange oval ones again. She basically said you get what we get, too bad. So I called the main office to verify what she said. They said that's absolutely wrong. They said that as long as the prescribing doctor specifies the manufacturer on the Rx, then CVS can order the pills from that manufacturer, no problem. So today, my doctor rewrote the Rx and when I took it to CVS, the pharmacist himself told me that they can't specify certain manufacturers when ordering the pills when they are C2 (controlled substance). I told the pharmacist that I spoke with CVS main office, and they said they could specify manufacturers even on controlled substances. The pharmacist then looked at me and said "well who you talked to was ONLY a secretary. They aren't pharmacists so they don't know what they're talking about." Needless to say, I was appalled that he would even say that in such a demeaning way (his tone and body language told me he meant it as such). The 2 pharmacy workers standing by him also acted uncomfortable after his statement. I have always liked this pharmacist, so his comment really surprised me and I'm guessing it's because I questioned his authority by calling main office.

So, my plan for tomorrow will be to call the main office again tomorrow and convey the answer I got from the pharmacist to them. We'll see what they suggest after that and how they feel about that "just secretaries" comment.

I have found Tevs/Barr to be significantly more effective and potent than any other generic.

The worst experience I ever had for generic Adderall IR was with Mallincrkodt.

The efficacy was like taking a sugar pill.

I reported this to the FDA

Following up about my experience a few weeks ago with a bad refill from Actavis. Got all the info from pharmacy, they had no complaints yet from others. Actavis finally called me back and they would test the batch/lot and send me a letter in about a month with results; should be any day now. Got a refill through CVS Pharmacy since they had a generic through Sandoz. First day taking Sandoz generic after weeks of hell on Actavis refill was like going from 0 to 100. Dry mouth kicked in really hard in about 30 minutes. 10-15 minutes after that, I started getting extremely jittery. Took a few hours for it to start 'cooling off' but it definitely validated something had to be wrong in that batch/lot. I kept taking the 40mg Actavis until switching to 40mg Sandoz. Side effects leveled off to usual drier mouth and appetite suppressed. The positive benefits returned and haven't had any episodes of depression or severe anxiety since then.

Teva is in this for profit. Lets be honest here. Teva is deciding whether or not to make this medicine effective...based upon Teva's profits. If Teva wishes to make changes to the product...it is due to Teva wishing to make more...profit. The thing is that this particular mixture of chemical is not only ineffective, but it is also having a negative affect on our health. I mean cutting the percentage of the most effective chemical in this drug and adding more fillers in order for them to have RECORD profits is one thing. However, Teva, it would seem, is not content with simply watering down their drug. Teva seems to me "monkeying around" with the Dexa- side of this drug, also. Thereby, giving those of us who take this drug, a terrible negative effect.

Seriously, do you think that the FDA is going to do anything? They might, in the worst cases, impose a fine. However, by the time Teva unloads all their "altered" drugs, their profit margin far outweighs any cost of sanctioning. AND... life goes on, as they say. A fair and open market is what keeps a company striving to maintain the quality of its product. Teva has been buying up its competition, and when they can not buy up the remaining competition...they enter into contracts with them.
The companies, and their collaborations, are controlling the quality of your medicine. It does not stop there, though. This kind of behavior is now pervasive throughout the health care industry.

Do not be confused. Something HAS CHANGED. Not only in the quality of the medication that you receive, but in the quality of the health care industry, overall. In my opinion, one only need to thank "obamacare" for these changes. And before you insinuate that I have a political bias or a "racist" bias, let me say that I despise all modern politicians. None take the job to "serve" the people. Instead, they take the position for the profit (power) potential of that position...but for that, they would not be in politics. YOU MUST AT LEAST FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE FDA. It is likely the only voice you have, no matter how demure.

NOTICE: No one is saying "Darn, this TEVA adderall is too powerful".

The one common thread in these complaints is that the medicine is weak and ineffective.

Suffice to say, intentionally weak and inefficient medicine would cost less to manufacture and equate to larger profits.

I filled my usual generic adderall IR 20 mgs made by TEVA at the same pharmacy I always use.Right away I noticed the bottle said DEXTROAMP-AMPHETAMIN typically it says MIXED AMPHETAMINE SALTS.The tabs look pretty much identical but maybe slightly larger and harder to break. After first dose I immediately felt something was wrong I felt, foggy, very anxious, heart palpitations, blurry vision, neck, jaw and shoulder pain with no ADHD relief. Typically I would feel calm and focused.I believe TEVA changed the formula or the quality of ingredients were lowered. When the bottle was TEVA/BARR I didnt experience these issues, the best way to describe the feeling is dirty. It felt like a dirty drug and the effects for me were some what like Vyvanse which I did not do well on. I hope they get enough reports to correct whatever went wrong I dont know what other generic to go with but I know the pink ones from CVS are terrible.

Has anyone else gained weight with this generic?

Ever since Teva became the only brand I have access to, I have gained 20lbs in the last year. I am hungry all of the time.

What exactly are you experiencing with your Sandoz alpraz that you weren't before? I take Sandoz alpro and Teva adderall everyday and have been feeling absolutely bonkers lately. I've been to the doctor over 5x in the 2 months to try and figure out the problem. Reading this forum is the most relief I've gotten yet.

Hello! Although the name sounds alarming, ecstasydata.org is dedicated to testing substances of any kind for harm reduction purposes. They can tell you the exact mg of any substance in any pill and it’s actually run by the government. I think it’s $40 for testing a single pill.

This isn't tolerance at all. I have been taking generic for 8 years, aurobindo for the past 5. I was given a script with teva and my entire life went to s***. I thought I had the flu and was out of work for a week until I connected the dots. While tolerance does occur (minimally) this is not that at all.

GenXGuyMissesNirvana (# 812) --

Yes, you are exactly right. And to the tool up thread calling us "seekers" for wanting our medication to work: Congratulations, you are incapable of critical thought and have been successfully programmed to believe anything someone more powerful than you tells you, rather than trusting your own perceptions.

Many generic manufacturers have been cited by the FDA (during the rare times the FDA makes a visit to their overseas labs) for not using the correct active ingredient AT ALL or using harmful fillers. It is not as if the FDA monitors all the pills coming in to U.S. pharmacies by generic manufacturers. At the same time, the DEA would prefer that no amphetamine at all be present in our meds. Since IR amphetamine is no longer patent protected, there is no opposing interest (i.e. $$$$$) that aligns with the ADHD/narcolepsy patients' interests in receiving the correct medication in terms of both quality and quantity. Given this situation, it is a wonder that anyone receives a good generic ADHD medication anymore.

You would think that the public would be aligned in fighting against crappy schedule 2 and 3 generic drugs. Even if they don't take them now, they could be diagnosed with an extremely painful condition tomorrow and need to take correctly manufactured drugs they formerly demonized, therefore becoming the same people they call "seekers" and "addicts" today. But most people are more concerned with pointing the finger at someone they deem lesser than themselves than having empathy, or even critical thinking skills, common sense, or foresight.

It also bears mentioning that years ago, looking for a doctor who saw you as the pilot of your own body, with them as the copilot, instead of you being a passive obedient walking ATM was common sense. Now it's called "doctor shopping" and it will be put on your "permanent record" (just like in school!). Refusing to pay for and use a certain generic that you know is pointless or hazardous to your body and requesting the manufacturer that works was just common sense, too. Now it's called "pharmacy shopping" and off to the principal's office with you! Meanwhile, we pay hundreds or even thousands per month to health insurance companies for this privilege.

Don't buy generic if you can afford not to. Only patronize the doctors and pharmacies that recognize you as the sole owner of your body rather than using dogwhistles like "--- shopper", "it's in your head", or even "addict" to shame you into tolerating subpar pain control, symptom reduction, or increased side effects. They don't live in your body, only you do.
