Adderall Manufactured By Teva Not Working (Page 4) (Top voted first)

Updated

I have had two refills of Adderall 20 mg that was manufactured by Teva/barr (Teva) and it seems to have much less medication in each pill. Refills by another manufacturer work. This is ridiculous, and where do we report Teva and who can check each pill for amount for medication? I would gladly donate some of my worthless ones to the FDA?

Today I informed my insurance company of my experience with this TEVA. I was told to stop taking it. I was instructed to inform my doctor, and tell them that I had spoken with my insurance company about this brand medication. The insurance company is standing behind me on this problem. The insurance company said that I would likely have to take the remaining bottle of tablets into my doctors office. At the doctors office they would do a pill count. After that, they should write a NEW prescription for the remaining tablets. Then, I could either have the doctor give me a paper-type prescription, so I can take it to any pharmacy to get a different brand...OTHER THAN TEVA.....or I could ask the doctor to write the prescription for Adderall brand only, AND NO GENERICS.

I will post back with how this goes, and explain which avenue I chose. AGAIN, I WAS TOLD BY MY INSURANCE COMPANY TO STOP TAKING THE TEVA, AND TO NOT USE TEVA IN THE FUTURE. They insisted I inform the doctor... and stop using TEVA....I HOPE YOU'RE LISTENING TEVA....Keep this up TEVA, and you will be selling your company to one that might do generics better. The insurance company is aware of the complaints that people are voicing about the medication.

If you will scroll down you can read my previous post about my initial experience with TEVA. Okay, my insurance company is involved in this and so is my doctor. I have not been on any medication for about 2 years. When I quit generic adderall (BARR), it was working just fine. I simply wanted to try going without them, to see if my memory and focus would remain intact. I only took medicine for about 18 months, total. I had tried TEVA in those 18 months and they did not work the same. I can only describe it as a "flat" feeling and it also seemed to leave me feeling worse than if I had not taken them at all. If you have read my posts from about a week ago you will see that I had complained about the current TEVA 10mg ir tablets.

My insurance company insisted I try the same brand and switch tablet strength. Thereby taking the exact same dosage but only using a different strength, to achieve that same total-daily dosage of 30 mg. Before, I took 3, 10 mg ir, and now 2, 15 mg ir daily. This was an attempt to find out if the particular tablets were to blame or if TEVA, overall, is to blame.
I have now taken the TEVA 15 mg ir for 4 days. I can tell you that they are different. The headaches are mostly gone. The flu like symptoms are mostly gone.....It does not feel like a took cold medicine...But...these 15 mg ir tablets are simply a more potent version of "the dud effect". They do not bolster ones focus at all. They simply attempt to "speed" you up (physically), but give you absolutely no cognitive benefits. Conversely, they seem to cause a "zoning out" effect, cognitively, even before you reach a set, prescribed dose. Meaning, unlike my past experiences with adderall, these seem more like a very cheap impostor. A failed attempt at making adderall.

There you go TEVA,...the lab mice have figured it out. Your product is a failure. Now TEVA, go watch your stock prices and let us know if scrimping on ingredients in your generic line is worth it. I mean it has been a record year for generics, with record profits reported. NOW WE KNOW HOW THAT PROFIT HAPPENS. TEVA bought a company that was putting out a good product (BARR), and slowly transition its product to the exact same crap product that you (TEVA) were making previously.

They absorbed their competition and skated on that companies success (BARR name) for a while. Ultimately, TEVA seemingly then just switched the formula back to its non- effective one, and is now dispensing it regularly. Both my doctor and insurance company will be working to fix this for their patients. I just happened to be their perfect patient, having been on the meds before, so I know how they work, and then off all meds for the past 2 years. Plus the fact that I had a full bottle of BARR generic adderall leftover from 2 years from which we could evaluate our theories. THAT OLD BARR GENERIC ADDERALL WORKS WONDERFULLY. EVEN IF IT IS EXPIRED. That tells you all you need to know about the TEVA brand, folks.

Re: Steve (# 570) Expand Referenced Message

This last script of Teva/30mg I picked up on Friday (no alternative in San Antonio) is the absolute worst batch I have ever received from these crooks.

There is something very wrong with these Meds. It seems like they are adding more of that nasty, sweet saccharine filler and reducing some of the 4 main ingredients . They may even be adding more of one of the 4...just know that side effects are terrible: blurry vision, chest discomfort, making me depressed/short tempered, headache. These are dirty pills. Period.

See Doc next month and will have to slog through month but NO MORE TEVA.

I can show you an article where it states that your doctor should tell you to know which generic works best for you, and that you should be pharmacy shopping until you find that particular generic brand. If I were in that situation, I would openly admit to drug shopping, because I am fed up with the junk generic placebos....I want the drug, instead. "Now stop trying to play head games Mr. Pharmacist, I know you want to sell me the cheapest generic that you buy in bulk, and profit from it". After all, it is not returnable if it does not work, now is it. Gee, I wonder why that is? I will continue to shop for my generic brand and get the actual drug. Mr. Pharmacist sells drugs (theoretically) and aren't you the shopper? However, if you purchase HIS drugs...I suppose you are not a "drug shopper", ostfu.

Lately Teva 30 mg has the same effect on me as if I ate a piece of paper. I thought I was the only one until I found this forum. I can say it and half an hour later I'm laying around like the hound dog on The Beverly Hillbillies.

Karen (# 695) --

I completely agree. I've been taking Teva 20mg IR ever since the "shortage" around 2012. I personally don't have a lot of bad side effects from them but that is because I have no effect from them. Zero. Like you said...they are like a placebo. I would like to see how much longer they're allowed to use the vast majority of the patients who are prescribed generic adderall as their control group. Teva has literally given the term "control group" to a whole new meaning. Combine the % closeminded, outdated docs with the % of pharmacists protecting their ego instead of the patients and you've got yourself an army of pharma puppets working for companies like Teva. There are fortunately excellent doctors and pharmacists out there. Unfortunately, they are not as abundant as the puppets. It's a system designed to fail the patient and profit from those very failures. From what I've read and heard the only people we really have to protect us....is us. I have yet to see the FDA take measures that build my confidence. I am hopeful though that together we can prove"there is strength in numbers". This has gone on for way too long.

I totally agree about problems pertaining to Teva brand . Sometimes there is a sugar batch of 30 mg.aderall and sometimes there is a batch that might actually work. It seems like someone doesn't care about your health only your money. What happens to people who could die with a placebo, which is how my brain , body and spirit feels when I receive placebo batch. People with ADHD are left struggling just as bad as people with other problems with out proper medication. No one(pharmaceutical) seems to care or understand it seems.

Generics are Crap! Made in dirty vessels in India or China, some in the U.S. Sawdust and Pig Lips is what i call the ingredients. Yet we are forced to take them by insurance companies, which in turn make the brand names too expensive to take due to small sales. Plus Walgreens, CVS, etc. will switch generics depending on the price per 100,000 units, making your body adapt to a change in medication each month for pills that take up to 2 months to take effect, such as anti-depressants.

Re: Dierdre (# 846) Expand Referenced Message

Hey DeeDee, guess what? Just because I or others take medications, doesn't make us dumb. I am a consultant, I work at medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers, fixing their problems when the FDA bothers to show up. I'm a Chemist, have 2 degrees in Engineering, and a Business Degree; I have worked for over 20+ years in Quality Assurance. At 24, i worked for Glaxo-Wellcome helping to manufacture the first AIDS cocktail, AZT, also Digoxin (heart medicine) - you look at this stuff wrong and it will kill you, stop your heart in a second, the amount of actual medicine in a pill is so small it can't be seen with the naked eye. It's made from a plant, the African Violet.

So tell me, what do you know about pharmaceutical manufacturing? Do you know the approval processes? ANDA, PMA, 510k, then there's generics, all you have to do, is say, "my generic, works just like the brand name", you don't have to do the same research, you don't have to do the same clinical studies, then there's biologics, where we grow pharmaceuticals using organic material, to match the chemical dna, ALMOST, and again, you just say, "hey look, our dna strand looks kinda like theirs....it must be the same, we grew it in a petri dish, it's living material...."

No i doubt you know any of this. So what's responsibility have to do with it? Do you think insurance companies like generics because they are better? NO, it's because they're cheaper!! Do you know where most are made? In India, or China, Do you know how many FDA people there are in India or China, about 15. 15. not 100's, do you think they go to each nasty plant, that doesn't clean stuff before making, drugs after they just made Christy poo-poo doll with plastics in the same containers? Really?

Here is what I personally noted, and it also seemed to be the consensus of many others writing opinions on the net.

Between the years of 2007 - 2012, my favorite generic Adderall IR was BARR

It was my favorite because it seemed to have strong efficacy and balanced and smooth.

I remember, between these years 2007 - 2012 it was not only myself writing accolades; it was praised, it appeared, by most, online.

Sometime after Teva took over for Barr, I noticed a very marked decrease in potency and efficacy, and noted this same criticism from others.

Hilariously, Brand Name Adderall IR (at that time) was produced by TEVA, as well as, Generic Adderall IR.

There is a possible explanation for this.

If you notice the "markings" on Teva's Generic Adderall IR - Let us say the 30mg tablet are:

b 974

I believe that during this time, the Brand Adderall IR, while manufactured by Teva, it was actually produced in labs by BARR.

Teva's Generic IR I think (at that time) was manufactured by a drug company called Duramed Pharmaceuticals, as they are a subsidiary of BARR

Something, I personally believe, has improved in Teva's Generic IR.

Although it is not like it once was, it has, when compared to others, more potency and efficacy. I do not know what role BARR or Duramed may play in Teva's product today, I do know that Barr does not --directly- manufacturer GENERIC IR. (Please correct me if I am wrong, but Barr, although may be a producer, it is no longer a producer)

Today it seems there are a kaleidoscope of generic companies filling petitions with the FDA to manufacturer their generic D-Amphetamine Salt Combo IR

WHAT MOST DO NOT KNOW ABOUT HOW GENERIC COMPANIES "TEST"
_______________________________________________________________

1. There is not a FDA representative required to "directly" oversee the generic company's test (ie they are not --there-- in the lab) so to speak

And while the FDA mandates certain standards that generics (applying for approval of their product) must undertake, they do not act as a "babysitter" so to speak

What I am getting it is this:

Like cheating on a algebra test, the teacher (here the FDA) may not catch you... But obviously, you must complete the test, and, turn in your test.

Another concern - And this effects the "EXTERNAL VALIDITY" of a firm's tests

A. They may have a very small sample size >25

B. The samples may not be "vetted" with absolute accuracy:

1. Some "samples" may, at the time of the test, be taking other medication, or, have other psychiatric / neurological conditions

**C. There may be, in the total sample size, more of a certain age group, demographics, or races tested

These may seem irrelevant, but they could very well produce data that has very poor "External Validity"

Here is a interesting note: FDA WAIVERS

If the generic company can prove, through testing established by, analyzed by, and conducted by the company, that -- let us say their 30mg tablet is completely bioequivalent to the Brand Name, in terms of the time the drug is detected in the blood, the highest level detected (with the time recorded) and, the time the drug leaves the body, are, in FDA standards "Bioequivalent" to the Brand Name, the generic company can request a "WAIVER" in terms of testing their lower strength tablets, arguing that because, their highest MG (let's say 30mg tablet) was shown as "bioequivalent" - then - if each method is (or were) implemented by the generic company, it would, obviously as well be Bioequivalent.

Waivers are profoundly concerning, and consist of fallacious research testing standards.

Now: Would it be worth it for the generic company to use substandard testing 'methods....well, if that were to save them, a literal fortune, who knows?

The real danger, however, is not necessarily when the product they tested, and given to FDA to demonstrate acceptable equality to the Brand...

Conversely, it is when the "ACTUAL FORMULA" is on conveyor belts, and the firm must actually "make" what they "tested"

Now...is it worth it at --this stage-- for a generic company to, "cheat" let us say...

Not really

Because if caught, they could face a absolute fortune in fines and penalties, but their entire pipeline of drug could face immediate "search and seizure" by the FDA

But...the FDA is, in my opinion, grossly understaffed, to conduct surprise evaluations of the firms warehouse and manufacturing process, but most of these are ----actually--- in Third World Countries

There is a very good reason firms have most of the drug made there.

Just my thoughts...

Re: PatientsFirst (# 822) Expand Referenced Message

Excellent points, I agree 100%, but let's not feed the troll. Ignore the god-botherers and "youze r just junkeez" name-callers, for all we know they're getting paid by TEVA, lol.

Anyway. To all here who have noticed the obvious (generic IR Adderall is crap), I'm curious why the brand version (expensive "pseudo-brand" Adderall IR, " coincidentally" also made by TEVA) is no better. I've tried both. Neither resembles original Adderall IR as made by Shire from around 2004-2013 or '14.

In addition, IR mixed amphetamine salts (pseudo-brand Adderall or various generics) have, since somewhere around 2015 or '16, for various responders in this forum, me included:

1. Have not helped ADHD symptoms that had been controlled in previous years by MAS (mixed amp salts).
2. Have caused symptoms that no actual amphetamine should cause (ie weight gain, hunger, leaden inability to move, extreme lethargy, narcolepsy) and was actually formulated to improve.
3. Have also caused other symptoms and conditions unrelated to ADHD (migraines, ulcers, depression and suicidality, skin reactions, muscle pain, etc).

There was a poster named Bellflower or something similar who mentioned that these issues arose in conjunction with a few patents from India being approved. These patents involved adding and/or removing ingredients from all scheduled (or just schedule 2 and 3?) medications in order to make them "unabusable". Bellflower insinuated that this change was responsible for all of the problems we have been having, from inefficacy to paradoxical "side"-effects to dangerous reactions. This makes sense to me, because if the issue was ONLY that TEVA generic Adderall went to crap to make patients switch to pricy TEVA pseudo-brand, then TEVA pseudo-brand would work better, which it doesn't. Also, all generics of Adderall wouldn't be inferior to 2004-era Shire Adderall, which they are. In addition, we see this "problem" cropping up with other scheduled pharmaceuticals within the same time frame--a couple years or so after those patents had been granted, ie enough time to utilize, produce, manufacture, and distribute the medications in line with the new patent, and then phase out the remaining medications without it and/or buying out the manufacturers who chose not to comply in a timely fashion.

This would explain why different generic manufacturers stopped working at different times, why old leftover Adderall by the same manufacturer would work while the others didn't, and why one pill in the same batch would work while others didn't.

Thoughts?

Re: Bellflower (# 836) Expand Referenced Message

I absolutely agree with this. They are monkeying about with "avoiding abuse" and in the process they are also "avoiding therapeutic effects" (ie pain relief for opiates, anxiety relief for benzodiazepines, and now relief of ADHD/narcolepsy symptoms for amphetamines) as well as producing a ton of paradoxical effects (weight gain, sleepiness, and hunger for amphetamines) and new negative effects on health (heartburn, weight gain, etc).

Any idea what specific ingredients they are adding to cause this? Are they severely limiting the amount of amphetamine in the pills itself too, or just adding materials that alter or neutralize the beneficial effects of amphetamine on ADHD, while also causing paradoxical reactions? Are their additional contaminants added to "deter abuse" which produce unpleasant symptoms even in prescribed therapeutic doses such as harmful adverse effects to the GI tract and perhaps other bodily systems?

What pharmacies carry Shire? Or how does one go about finding that information? I am experiencing HORRIFIC side effects from both TEVA and aurobindo and had felt for about a year they just simply did not effect me like adderall used to and would find myself needing to take more and was afraid I was destroying my tolerance or becoming addicted to it but it makes much more sense now that the quality of the medication and whatever unregulated fillers are in there are causing the unpleasant symptoms!

I actually missed two days of work this week after 3 nights of insomnia, relentless panic attacks, migraines and the WORST brain fog I’ve ever experienced to the point I could not get anything done at work as if I truly had shut down all cognitive ability in my brain...anyway ended up going to see a doctor today about what I could do to combat these side effects but I’m seeing now the bottom line is that these generics made in India are garbage and making me sick to the point of seeking medical care.

Anyway, I’m glad I’m not crazy and imagining these symptoms are my problem or in my head.

Any info on how to find shire would be much appreciated.

Same here. You are not alone. I Haven’t had a good batch of teva or any brand since 2018. I have tried them all.
Just picked up a new prescription of teva and I’m curled over in bed feeling even more bizarre than ever. It makes me yawn, confused, headache, heavy eyes. Can’t seem to find a consistent manufacturer.
Not sure what to do anymore.

Please…everyone who feels strongly compelled that something is very wrong with Teva Generic Adderall IR, please take just a few moments to complete a Medwatch complaint on the FDA’s webpage.

The more people who take this action, it will raise a flag for them to actually investigate.

So please do this if you feel compelled to..
