Adderall Backorder (Page 70)
UpdatedI take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?
Re: Rcma (# 1379)
I think they are withholding the drug on purpose. This is evil.
Re: Rcma (# 1378)
I take 20mg and I even asked if I could take 10 or 30 but there was none anywhere. In fact, I was so desperate, I found a little pharmacy called Royal Palm Pharmacy. The pharmacist had exactly enough to fill my script so I rushed to have my doctor send over an electronic script before someone else walked in and got the medication. When I picked it up it didn't even look like anything I've seen before. It is so faint pink it's almost white. It's by Camber and I've never used it before but anything is better than the side effects of not having it. So far it's ok but who knows what's in it. I'm terrified for what will happen next month.
Re: Jack (# 1381)
I read online today in an article that there are online pharmacies like BlinkHealth, GoodRX, and OutReach RX can fill the prescriptions. I don't know if that's true and I've never tried but I will look into this.
Re: Rcma (# 1378)
It’s fishy for sure. I was able to find 30 day supply from a Mom and Pop pharmacy. Hoping next month CVS will have back in stock. Try some independent Pharmacies.
I refill on the 28th and I'm worried. This thread gives me such anxiety lol
Re: tim (# 1385)
... Anyone have good news?
Re: Jack (# 1381)
This is probably right to cause chaos
Local Walgreens in my area of Florida only seems to have Camber. I did get one month of 30 mg IR by Teva in July from Walgreens but they only had Camber this month. One of the Walgreens pharmacists asked if I had tried Royal Care, a pharmacy I had not heard of. Yes, they could fill with 20mg IR, but I had to transfer my other two scripts to them. So far they do little. Not even as good as the 30 mg were, which weren't great. It has to be a quality issue as I did fine on Teva in 2020 and on Lannett in 2021. I am going to see if they are able to get Lannett. It seems different ones work better for some people and not for others. My friend has consistently gotten Lannett from her independent pharmacy for the past 3 years. They were never out. My new pharmacy is willing to work with me but don't know if they can get Lannett from their wholesaler. Have to have a good day to call and speak with her.
Re: West Palm Beach Gal (# 1383)
Do you know if the sites you mentioned fill Schedule II prescriptions like Adderall?.
Re: BlessedLady (# 1389)
I've never tried them before. I just saw it in an article I read.
I contacted some online pharmacies to see if they fill via mail and if they have any adderall in stock. I did hear back from BlinkHealth and GoodRX. Both only assist you by getting you a good price at your local pharmacy. They don't ship to you directly. It looked like RXOutreach may actually do mail order but I am waiting to hear back from them on the adderall situation. Online though it shows that they do carry it if I am understanding that correctly.
Re: Cyr (# 1388)
Where are you located and which is your new pharmacy? I found Camber at Royal Palm pharmacy in Royal Palm Beach but he said it was the last of his quantity and he wasn't sure when he could get more in stock.
Re: wpbgal42 (# 1390)
I know GoodRx is not a online pharmacy. For me personally, I would not trust ordering a Schedule II online. If you do not receive it you are out of luck and money, until your next fill date.
Re: BlessedLady (# 1392)
I Second that!
Unless it's through your PBM like Caremark or Express scripts or Optum Rx
Re: Rcma (# 1393)
I tried a couple small, independent pharmacies after striking out at CVS, Kroger, and Walgreens. Luckily the second tiny pharmacy had it in stock, filled it in 10 minutes, and it cost me less than $4. I thanked them profusely and told them I’d see them again in 30 days!
Re: Rcma (# 1378)
The DEA is the supplier of amphetamines. They are a schedule II substance. DEA sets a fixed amount each year based on the demand of the previous year. Companies can't just choose how many pills they want to make. They have to work within their share of the quota.
It used to be that the DEA gave the whole supply to 1 company, the brand company Shire. And based on contracts with generic brands it would supply them their contracted quota. But they manipulated the market and created a shortage and didn't supply their generic companies and instead made brand name / patent protected Vyvanse with the amphetamines. Which created the shortage, I think back in 2012?
Not sure if the raw materials are distributed the same way or not currently. But demand has gone way up this year (you can search online for details) and the DEA is very reluctant to increase quotas on amphetamines.
Can you believe the BS?

Re: Rcma (# 1396)
Outright lies!! CVS and Walgreens not having issues??? Total BS!!! I take generic and couldn't find ANY brand. This is outrageous. They are putting so many people through so much stress, anxiety and suffering unnecessarily.
Got my script filled today, but it's definitely a shortage right now, especially for the IR (which in my area, wasn't a problem the last several months)! Finally found a pharmacy that had some, but had to substitute my normal x30 30mg for x90 10mg.
Just going to share some tips for those who are struggling out there, as these things have been instrumental for me the last several months this year:
1. Find a doctor that is willing work with you, and be open about your concerns with getting your prescriptions filled! Stay in communication with your doctor about when you intend to fill as well, in case you are in need of modifying your Rx.
2. Ask for a paper script if possible. Your doctor sending your script into your pharmacy directly can be convenient, but if unavailable, transfer between different chains (and sometimes individual stores) is usually impossible without your doctor sending over a new script (and most pharmacies won't even tell you stock availability without being able to see proof of your prescription, making it difficult to tell your doctor where to send it). Meanwhile, a paper script can be taken to any pharmacy you wish to try without any need of your doctor. Cross-checking chains is important - stores of the same chain often share the same supply chain, but not stores of other chains. If all the Walgreens have Adderall on backorder, that doesn't mean that a CVS or RiteAid necessarily is!
3. If a pharmacy tells you that your dose is unavailable or they don't have enough quantity, ask about lower doses. Many pharmacies are running low on 30mg and 20mg right now, but have an abundance of 10mg. You can also inquire about availability of XR vs IR - a few months ago, XR was completely unavailable everywhere, but I was able to substitute my normal x30 XR/ x30 IR combination for x60 IR that month instead. This is where working your doctor is immensely important - having a doctor who can send over a modified order in the same day is a massive boon.
4. I know there are some really bad brand generics out there, but not limiting yourself to just Teva makes things much easier. Personally, I have had just as good of an experience with Sandoz and the availability seems much greater for it. You can also inquire about brand Adderall if price is not a concern for you (A few months ago, a pharmacy said they were out of stock, but then I inquired about brand, and they said they had it, but it wasn't their policy to check for it by default!!!!).
5. Try to refill ~2 days before your meds will run out. If modifications are necessary, your insurance may require to go through the pre-authorization process again to cover it. It also gives you time in case supply is completely unavailable. Most pharmacies and insurances will allow refills after 28 days in my experience, so giving yourself some wiggle room can really reduce the anxiety associated with filling up your Adderall script in the current climate.
6. Always be kind, courteous, and respectful to pharmacy staff. Some pharmacists may be skeptical of you if they aren't a regular, but they are definitely aware of the current shortages of this drug. Explaining your situation while remaining friendly and cordial can go a long way. Once, a friendly chat with a pharmacist who said they were out of stock, she let me know of another pharmacy she knew (from another customer) that did have it in stock (one that I would likely not have tried otherwise)!
Good luck out there, my friends.
Re: Wpbgal42 (# 1397)
Yes. I tweeted the writer and said the PR spin Doctors for these large corporations are absolutely full of it and she should speak to customers if she wants to be a real journalist and see if the customers experience matches the bs the big corporations are spewing out. "Why is the media being a megaphone for the cover up lies of large publicly traded corporations spinning a false narrative? Lazy "journalism" = useful idiots for big Pharma, DEA, FDA - the story is the cover-up. Talk to the CUSTOMERS!" Tweet @echuckles and @nbcnews if you want to be heard outside this echo chamber... Here's your chance!
