Adderall Backorder (Page 50) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?
Re: Cyr (# 1617)
Two weeks still no script refill in Memphis area. Ridiculous....thought they said it was supposed to be over at end of year. Guess not. I never had to go over a few days....now it's two weeks.
Re: Mike (# 1628)
and yet 4 months later not even 30 pills made it to my pharmacy.. I'm just trying to understand the issue. I've called a few places and theyre telling me the producers have no supplies available to send them. That's not a Shortage, that's a complete drought ??
Re: Mike (# 1628)
I live in the Philadelphia area myself, and I've had no issues finding Sandoz brand Adderall from one of my local CVSes the last several months.
I was able to get 30 of 30mg IR once again from CVS in Jacksonville, FL. Pharmacy employee even told me on the phone that they weren't currently backordered for them. Nor was brand XR 30mg.
I also checked with my regular pharmacy who was supplying Rhodes as of Oct and they were still all out.
Re: tim (# 1641)
I can get Sandoz but having major side effect problems. Pittsburgh, PA
Re: tim (# 1646)
I agree with you totally. But... It's not the job of Federal legislation to cap MDs Rx's. State licensing boards and AGs can come down on MDs. The DEA is like the FBI. Every MD has. DEA # and it would take them no time to see EXACTLY which MDs are over Rx'ing AND via drivers licenses they know who is picking up Rx's at pharmacy.
Lowering the production is a blunt tool and it's ignorant and lazy and idiotic.... like many bureaucracies. They accomplish their goal of "less amphetamine" by creating mayhem and suffering. Doing it wisely requires tactics and strategy and enforcement. They KNOW that over Rx'ing will still happen.... But more ppl will end up without meds. Some ppl will still get 60, 80 + mg a day. And the DEA will create a black market by creating scarcity. It's totally counter productive and truly idiotic
Re: Ken (# 1648)
Unfortunately, the DEA decreased the amount for 2023. It was not as much as they decreased it in 2022 but it is still a decrease. It is listed in the Federal Register.
Re: BlessedLady (# 1650)
There are plenty of resources, agreed. The PDR is definitely authoritative: pdr.net/Mobile/Pages/drug-summary/Adderall-amphetamine-aspartate-monohydrate-amphetamine-sulfate-dextroamphetamine-saccharate-dextroamphetamine-sulfate-1048.
I'm one who believes that 40/day is too low for some.. Absolutely... Individualized and in my own experience it depends on so many variables.... Stress levels, seasonal (S.A.D.)... Body size, exercise, diet, CFS,.MS, narcolepsy, shift work, etc. BUT, there is also tolerance. And IMO I've seen people over the years post on other ADD forums that MDs Rx big doses of benzos and Adderall. IOW some MDs HONESTLY want the 15 min appt to be over on 12 min. Writing scripts can be easier than talking about caffeine or alcohol consumption and bad diets. And the absolute truth is that there is a black market of $1/mg and up. Should we, who use the medication responsibly, be punished for decades of over Rx'ing? For higher ADD in kids from screens and over-stimulation? No. But it's a complex issue that is being treated in manner that will only exacerbate illegal sales and over Rx'ing. The DEA solution to real problems they've partially created is idiotic.
i am located in SF bay area region and we don't seem to have a problem with stock. however the stock we do have is absolute garbage. teva and sandoz IR both are completely ineffective now and feel horribly taxing on the body with barely any of the focus ever since the shortage.
i also noticed the current teva's texture is really chalky and crumbly.. not like the teva i'm used to. found a quarter of an old teva pill and compared it to the new teva. completely different textures. the old one is hard and compact while the new one is powdery to the touch and chalky.
it's so unfair that even with the shortage, seems they changed the formulas for the worst as well... planning to make FDA complaints for both if that even does anything.
hang in there everyone! i quit adderall cold-turkey since 12/8 and i'm hoping they somehow get the good sense to go back to their old formula eventually. as for now, unfortunately looks like even taking nothing is better.
Re: BlessedLady (# 1650)
The FDA just gives recommendations as general guidelines for product labeling. They are not set in stone. They are based on studies on effective dosage etc. But there are many out there who need more for a proper effective dose and they don't deny that.
The doctor can prescribe as much as they believe to be medically necessary by law. There is no actual legal limit.
Insurance companies on the other hand are just like any other company with a bottom line that is responsible to the shareholders so they will try to limit how much you can get and make you jump through hoops to get more.
Yes off and on I found the 20 mg at Costco but now they too are out of it, I started taking less so I'd have a few more but am considering weaning off it all together it creates more anxiety and mental instability worrying about it.
Re: BlessedLady (# 1674)
I also take Adderall for narcolepsy and hypersomnia. These are not psychiatric conditions day did a spinal tap on me to show that I had narcolepsy so I don’t know where you get the idea that’s a psychiatric problem. I have not been awake for more than two or three hours a day for the past week and a half because of this shortage. I missed my birthday I got fired from my job and my edema
From sleeping so much has given me heart complications. It’s not up to you to judge what medication is more important than another. I also take Synthroid and Cidermill in a diuretic and high blood pressure medication but none of those are serious as not be able to find Adderall. Also, if this is just a TiVo problem, then how come I can’t get my generic? And that thing about the DEA saying only a certain amount a year is OK well last time I checked it was the beginning of January, so that doesn’t fly either. Please think of what you type before you type. You have never experienced narcolepsy, and I doubt you’ve ever had real fatigue which would you like to say, when compared to being just very tired, is the difference between us, slight breeze, and a hurricane. It’s like having been administered twilight and trying to work and drive and live. Not fun
Re: stephen e (# 1660)
After almost 4 months with nothing, ill take the garbage.
Teva, Sandoz, the blue stuff Heisenberg cooks up in an RV outside the desert. Already cut back to nothing and on the verge of losing my life savings. Garbage would be a welcome change lol
Re: stephen e (# 1669)
Yes, I understand. It does suck big time....for sure.
Re: Ryelee (# 1667)
I added links, the PDR and others.
I'm not against Rx'ing for the individual's needs. I AM against the DEA using the 40mg a day "guideline" as a criterion to control annual production and distribution. I am 100% in agreement that responsible MDs know what most benefits their patients and IDEALLY the government should stay out of the private affairs of patients seeking therapeutic assistance from licensed medical professionals. DEA limits on production using a 40mg a day arbitrary # is patently ignorant and to a degree cruel. Some People need meds. MDs make that call, not DEA. If they want to curtail abuse then go after the abusers vs punishing the law abiding medically supervised users.
There needs to be wholesale reform as this issue runs very deep. The DEA is using arbitrary caps to curtail manufacture.....the FDA gives ANDA #s for generics and barely EVER does quality control on s****y generics. It's a very f'd situation on many levels, and that's how bureaucracy dysfunctions.
Re: Mo (# 1657)
Updating a previous item - for those around the area who are struggling to find Adderall, the Philadelphia area still seems to not be struggling too badly with supply (found my prescribed XR and IR on the first try, anyway).
For the first time in months, however, I'm getting Teva instead of Sandoz IR. The XR is apparently a brand called "Amiel", which I have not had before (fingers crossed, I guess).
Good luck out there, my friends.
I have multiple scripts ready today. Been on file for months. Teva generics---too bad they don't work. My doctor would freak if I got more than one.
Still waiting on the Mydayis. Hoping it is better.
Re: Ember (# 1700)
Narcolepsy is also treated with modafinil by MDs
I'm not giving medical advice. Just providing info. Without an attention deficit dx there are non amphetamine treatments unaffected by the current scarcity
Re: Rcma (# 1701)
Respectfully, there are also other medications that are prescribed for ADHD.
Re: Ember (# 1700)
No. This is a pharmacy around Memphis. Just have to ask the pharmacist what mgs they have. If you take 20, maybe your doc can mix it up, like 4 5s, 2 10s, 1.5 12.5s. I had to drop my dosage from 30 to 25 mgs because of the 12.5s, but honestly it's better than nothing at all.
