Adderall Backorder (Page 48)
UpdatedI take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?
Re: bp01 (# 935)
This is horrible to say the least. You have a great idea with trying the 'mom and pop shops.' That's what I do and have no problems. Good luck.
Re: LO (# 928)
I have my doc write TEVA specifically on the escript and it all seems to work out that way. Stamp is that of TEVA and not that of the 'new' Lannett. Works and 'feels' the same too.
Re: JP (# 926)
I hear you say that the Lannett is so much stronger than Teva. Would you say by double the potency? How would you describe the difference please?
Re: Geoffrey (# 936)
This usually doesn’t happen until the fall.
There may have been a recall or something there’s no way they’re out of active ingredient already.
Did you look on the FDA drug shortage web page?
According to FDA shortages it looks like one company I never heard of discontinued all Adderall in January, and Aurobindo has a temporary discontinuation, which is fine (I think they made fake ones anyway). But Rite Aid buys Aurobindo so they’ll have a problem.
Re: JR (# 895)
I was given Mallinkrodt last month terrible. Haven't found any yet this month
Re: Jeno712003 (# 941)
Everyone is switching to independents. They don't have any left this month
Re: JP (# 926)
My Walgreens says the shortage is with 20 and 30mg. Had doc transfer script for 10mg. Out of stock, but said they had 30mg. Had doc change to 30mg. Now pharmacist is "reviewing". I can't even get through to pharmacy sta phone. I have to go to the store. Yes, south Florida.
Re: Badd (# 908)
I am about to try camber. I hope they work Pharmacist said (10 mins before closing) that it was a day early. So what's the dif between closing and 9:00 tomorrow. Crazy. And today was the 30th day.
Yes. And I'm infuriated.
So I'm pissed, in the same boat as you guys. I have a job interview tomorrow, and I'm now gonna be withdrawing from Adderall during it because CVS is suddenly "out of stock". Relatively new to the drug, started on 10mg last month. I got prescribed through Cerebral, which I know is kind of sketchy and honestly a bit of a legal grey area. But I had a great experience with it, Adderall has literally saved my life. Went from a total mess to being super productive, I undoubtedly was struggling with unmedicated ADHD.
So I had my digital meeting with my prescriber yesterday, and we increased it to 20mg, alright, great! Cerebral app has a prescriptions tab, I check and it shows the prescription has been sent. Head over to CVS to get it filled, I gave her my name, she went to the computer and asked which drug I needed to pick up. Told her Adderall 20mg, her vibe changes, she seems annoyed with me, asks "Do you have a prescription for it?" I'm like Yeah of course, maybe my doctor hasn't sent it over yet, my bad! I think the woman thought I was gonna f***in rob the place at that moment. Her tone changed and everything. And yeah, turns out it hadn't been called it in yet, even though it had been like an hour after our appointment. I ended telling her I would call my doctor and see what the problem is and left. Whatever, that's telemedicine s***, I expect it.
Go to work, get done, check my CVS app right before I leave and great, my Adderall script has appeared. So I head back to the drug store, different pharmacist this time, I give her my info. Again she asks me what I'm trying to pick up. The 20mg is my only active prescription, and I didn't get asked that picking up 10mg, so that gave me weird vibes. I also made the mistake of phrasing it like a tweaker, I said "Amphetamine salts 20mg extended release" lmfao.. I get the generic. Anyway, she says Oh your doctor signed it for the 30th, you'll have to come back tomorrow. I say thank you and leave, but I thought that was odd. In the app, it said available on the 29th, which was today. I was also like f***, now I've gone there to get my meds twice in one day and been turned down both times, probably came off as a seeker. Even though I'm legally prescribed this stuff.
So today, I get up, check my CVS app, everything looks good. Planning to pick my s*** up after work, I got everything planned out, I take my final 10mg pill of the previous batch today. Been super busy, took no off days, leaving me without any backup. Really relying on getting my new batch today, so I can actually focus during my interview. Then I check my CVS app, all of a sudden "Out of stock - Rx on order". What the f***! Cvs ravaged me over and over yesterday, and now it's suddenly indefinitely out of stock? Honestly, I don't buy that. Pharmacists can let me know, is it possible to get blacklisted for acting weird or something? Is the DEA cracking down on people with digital scripts? Ryan Haight act being reinstated? Was I too eager, going there twice in one day? I know Adderall shortages are a thing, but I feel like I'm being f***ed with. I'm gonna go down there in person after this and just ask if they have any. Or at least find out when they're supposed to get it back in stock. If it's gonna be awhile, I'm definitely gonna try the mom and pop route, but this is a pain in the ass. I'm done with CVS though, f*** the cold, b****y pharmacists in there who think I'm a burglar, or a mentally impaired seeker trying to sneakily get some Adderall without any script, wtf! Worst time for this to happen.
Re: Jim (# 950)
Jim, just curious, are you also in FL?
My CVS just told me it's no longer on backorder, but each store is limited in how much they can order each month. When my Rx was sent in on March 22, they'd already met their limit. They expect their April shipment tomorrow or Monday. My son and I both take it. Between us, we have one left, which he's saving for taking the ACT test on Saturday. (And it took 20 minutes to get through to a person, especially after the system misunderstood my answer and it sent me to a Covid scheduler in India.) I hate CVS.
Re: outofadderall20mg (# 951)
Before the COVID Emergency was declared federally and in each state. A doctor that had not met with a patient face to face at least once could not prescribe a Schedule II drug to that patient. After the declaration and with each extension. Doctors have been allowed to prescribe Schedule II medications with at least one face to face meeting with the patient. At last report, it appears the COVID Emergency will expire federally on April 15, 2022. Most states have already allowed their COVID Emergency to expire. If you have not meet face to face with a doctor that prescribes you Adderall or any other Schedule II medication. They will not be able to prescribe it to you after April 15, 2022.
Re: outofadderall20mg (# 951)
I went through pretty much the same thing with CVS. I just got the 10mg extended release prescribed to me for the first time at the beginning of the month. (Finally diagnosed with ADHD in January after 35 years of thinking I’m lazy or stupid). CVS calls me that my prescription will be ready at 3pm. I head over, ask for it and they look at me weird and say it’s out of stock but they placed an order and will get it tomorrow. Ok, no biggie.
Go back the next day, same situation, they tell me it’ll be available the following day (Friday). Friday I get a phone call saying my prescription is being filled and that it’ll be available for pick-up at 4:00pm, perfect, I can swing by on my way back from work.
I get to CVS, tell them I’m checking if my prescription has been filled as I got a message saying it’ll be ready at 4. I get weird looks, they check, go talk with another pharmacist and they’re staring daggers at me. The pharmacist comes back and says it didn’t arrive on the delivery truck and they’ll get it Monday… I ask why did I get a message saying it’ll be ready if they don’t have it? I explain that I’m out of my Ritalin as my doctor is switching me to Adderall and that I have major executive dysfunction when unmedicated. I’m told they have the brand name in stock but it’ll be $250. It’s too much, so I leave.
Monday, I call CVS and the pharmacist tells me they got the medication delivered and are filling the prescription. Great news, right? I get to the pharmacy, they tell me they don’t have it and give me weird looks like I'm a tweaker or something. I'm told to come back the next day.
Tuesday I get a text message saying that they’re filling my prescription, so I head to CVS to pick it up and I'm told it’s on back order and they don’t know when it’s coming in… At that point I’ve been out of any ADHD meds for four days, my sink is piling up, I’m behind with work, I’ve forgotten a couple appointments, the whole 9 ADHD yards…
I told them I give up and to give me the brand name; they look surprised and uncomfortable but they fill it. I had to dig into my savings but at least I got my medication. I’m sure the fact that the pharmacy is next to a college and a couple of miles from a Florida beach during spring break could’ve raised a few flags, but the whole situation was just ridiculous and infuriating.
They literally made me feel ashamed for wanting to get my medication so I could FUNCTION like a normal human being. They lost my business for life with their stupid games.
Re: outofadderall20mg (# 951)
I'm sorry this happened to you. But unfortunately it is not uncommon. It is odd that they marked it oos because as far as I could tell, the recent stock issues have been with the IR tabs and hasn't affected XR. That being said, not having insurance can cause a flag. Not to presume you don't have it, but it's worth mentioning. It could also be the prescribing doctor that threw them off. In my experience, in FL, that became an issue a few years ago. Most pharmacies (again, this has been my experience, it could depend on the region) even the independent small ones, stopped filling any controlled prescriptions from doctors that were not local a while ago.
I appreciate the insight into how the Cerebral service works. I've seen a couple of ads and wondered how that worked. That could be another factor though. If the doctor isn't close enough to where you live that could be causing them to turn it down. OR depending on when you picked up last month's prescription, the doc may have written "to be filled on 30th." If the doc writes a specific date on the prescription, the pharmacy isn't allowed to fill it before that date. One final thing I want to note is the app. In my experience using Walgreens app, sometimes what your seeing on the app is not accurate/up-to-date with their system in the pharmacy and its always best to call and double check. Just say your checking whether your prescription has been filled yet and don't 100 percent rely on the app to give you the correct status always. I hope that helps. (:
Re: Becky (# 953)
I'm kind of surprised that they were that candid with you but at least you know what's going on.
Re: FloridaDee (# 955)
I'm truly sorry for this experience you had. I can't believe they kept sending you back and forth like that. You're right tho, it is unfortunate but at least you were able to fill it for now. That sounds so stressful though. I sincerely hope you're able to find somewhere else to go instead.
Re: FloridaDee (# 955)
Wow. I'm sorry you had to go through all that. Who knows what was actually going on behind the scenes, but intentionally or not, what they did is strong-arm you into paying extra for brand name. That's terrible service. And don't get me f***ing started on the clearly telegraphed negative bias most CVS pharmacists seem to have toward us Addy patients. I know there is a stigma, and there's some valid reasons for it, BUT, I wonder if there's something specific built into the job training that informs this behavior. Because in reading others experiences, it's super common with CVS and Walgreens employees in particular.
Also, an update on my situation, if anyone is curious. Right after posting my rage-induced message on here the other night, I went back to CVS. I never call, I just use the app and go there in person, I quickly learned to not even bother with their dumb ass robo-steve answering machine service. But that's a whole other rant! I was polite, played cute and said I was there to order a prescription, as if I didn't know they were OOS. This was the same pharmacist that I encountered the day before, on my second trip. She said "Oh that is currently out of stock, but we will have it back tomorrow". This was consistent with what the app said, and I was slightly relieved to now have a time estimate. Gave me a little hope that I might be able to get the stuff before my interview. Thanked her and left, honestly I'm not at all combative in these situations, even though I was internally raging. Whether my rage was valid or not, I'm still unsure. It's clear in my last post that I was having some sort of "CVS is out to get me" paranoia. I blame this on the barely-concealed abhorrence the pharmacists displayed toward me, and the extremely stressful prospect of losing my meds in the face of a personally important and busy week.
Based off other people's experiences, I definitely wasn't optimistic about the one-day estimate being true. Lots of reports from people who were told "one day", and then had the date repeatedly pushed back without explanation. Eventually I found an old reddit thread, where a CVS employee broke down the shipping schedule of medication and listed the time windows for out of stock medicine to be ordered and delivered. I held my situation up to this chart, and the one day restock time estimate actually checked out. Gave me some more optimism, but still nothing was guaranteed.
So that brings me to today, I got up and checked my CVS app, and thank GOD, it said my prescription was available for pickup. Ready to go! As much as I love to hate CVS, I can recommend getting the app if it's your regular pharmacy. It does make it very easy to keep up with your meds. More practical than calling, for sure.
Interestingly, the in-app listing showed they had ordered and obtained a slightly different type of Addy than what the app was showing before. Pre-restock, it was "AMPHETAMINE SALTS ER 20 MG CAP". Afterwards it became "DEXTROAMP-AMPHET ER 20 MG CAP". Not a problem for me at all, but I did want to mention it for research purposes.
Anyway, get to CVS, all-new pharmacist this time, she's actually in a good mood and is polite to me. Doesn't make me feel like a burglar. I provide my license and debit card, and boom... I got my Adderall, exactly on time. The other pharmacists one-day prediction was actually correct. I'm shocked and relieved. This also lends some credibility to the Reddit breakdown of the CVS shipping cycle. I can find that again and post it if anybody is curious, it could be helpful for somebody. But yep, good luck out there everyone, try to have hope! So glad I'm secured for the next month. I'm located in Western NC btw.
Re: BlessedLady (# 954)
Ah damn it, I was afraid of this. Knew it was inevitable, though. Thank you for warning me. I'm gonna have to figure something out, because this med has improved my life so much. I'm sure I can get prescribed by a doctor face to face, I just dread going into doctor's offices. More anxiety-inducing than a zoom call for sure.
