Adderall Backorder (Page 47)

Updated

I take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?

Re: Walgreenie (# 920) Expand Referenced Message

My Walgreens has been filling my prescription with Lannet for the last few months, but switched to Teva last month. I haven’t been able to fill it this month because it’s on back order

This really frustrating. I thought it was just my typically awful Walgreens dropping the ball, but then I found out there’s a legitimate shortage of adderall. I finally was able to have an adult conversation about it with a pharmacist. Every other pharmacist said they weren’t “legally” allowed to discuss a controlled substance. Anyway, I was told the his mom and pop pharmacy didn’t expect to see 30mg IR Adderall for 4-6 weeks. He said the less popular dosages would be available sooner, but he had zero currently in stock. I had my doctor send my prescription to three different pharmacies and the first one that fills it is where I’ll purchase it from. Publix says they are expecting to receive it in tomorrow’s delivery. Fingers crossed

Thanks for the info! Are you in Florida? Same here, Walgreens filled Lannett for months and last month Teva. Teva is not doing anything at all. I am going to ask them when I’m due next week for a refill, if I can go back to Lannett (or whatever other generic they have that isn’t Teva). I’ve never asked before, nervous to, but I can’t waste another month. Assuming anyone has any….. Anyway, I’m noticing it’s mostly people in the southeast and Midwest US who are having shortage problems with Adderall… I have two friends here in the southwest who haven’t faced any issues. I wonder why there is a difference from state to state???

Re: Walgreenie (# 925) Expand Referenced Message

Yes, I’m in Jacksonville Florida. I finally got a pharmacist on the phone yesterday with enough common sense to have an adult conversation with me about my medication. EVERYONE I spoke to at four different pharmacies refused to discuss their inventory because it’s a controlled substance. Anyway, she told me the shortage they were experiencing was only 10mg and 30mg tablets so she could fill my prescription immediately if my doctor called and changed everything to 20mg tablets.

My doctor did that this morning and I just left Walgreens with my monthly prescription. It was TEVA again. I’ve only been prescribed Adderall for a couple of years and have been taking TEVA’s generic for all but two months. Those two months I received LANNET I had to completely change my dosage because it was SO much stronger than what I was used to with TEVA.

I hope this helps someone dealing with the same issues!

I’m also having difficulties. They say all Walgreens aren’t carrying it in Florida. I’m not even sure what to do at this point or who to contact regarding this manufacture issue. Let me know if you hear of any updates please

Do they not automatically default to the other manufacturer? I haven’t been able to get mine filled since 1/31 and it’s been so frustrating. Do I need my doctor to write something on the script that says they can use a different brand? I’ve always used 10mg and that seems to be the problem.

Re: LO (# 928) Expand Referenced Message

If you’re talking about the instant release those are only generic and they’ll fill it with whatever manufacturer they have available. I’d try asking the pharmacist what doses they do have in stock. If any. Are you in Florida also?

Wow, 10 years later and I'm still using this board for the same issues. Amazing......

Anyway, as to current events, I don't think there's a shortage at all. Given that most seem to use Walgreens, like me, I'm suspicious Walgreens is conducting some sort of internal crackdown on controlled drugs and turning people away intentionally.

See, I've been on the same treatment since spring of last year. My psychiatrist decided to put me on a dose of Adderall XR in AM and Adderall IR in the afternoon. Have been filling at same Walgreens since last May with no issues. Then this happens.

So last month I get my escript sent in like usual. Lately, I've been waiting until day 30 or 31 to pick it up bc even thoug my insurance allows for day 28 or 29 refills, they'll only fill XR before 30 days. Whatever, so I go to pick it up on a Friday evening, well within the allowed timeframe for refill. They don't have it ready so my spouse and I grab a couple snacks and checkout upfront then return to the pharmacy. As I'm standing in the waiting area a tech tells the (presumably) pharmacist on duty that -last name- is back. She calls me over and starts asking me about my Adderall scripts and I explain to her the way I take it, which is how my doc prescribes it. She walks away and a few mins later the tech calls me to check out. She only has XR script and I tell her there should be two. She walks over to the pharmacist woman that called me over before and comes back and tells me "we don't have it." WHAT? She says, "check on Monday, we should have a truck by then"... My husband nudges me away and tells me he thinks something weird was going on and that I should try calling in the morning. I agree but am not hopeful bc why would these women straight-up lie to me like that? LOW AND BEHOLD, I called the next morning and a different person said he'd have it ready and I picked it up in like, 2 hours. Weird right? The evening before, about 8pm, they didn't have it. The next morning, a Saturday and around 11 am, they have it and fill it with no problem.

Now this month. Same thing, XR was filled IR shows "pending pharmacist review." So I call thinking they're just behind again. The pharmacist who answers proceeds to tell me, "we don't have it." So I say to him, "Okayyyyy, what do you suggest I do then??" That's when he starts to ramble off a bunch of stuff and honestly I'm having trouble understanding him. He says something about "customer cap" and something "too high." Then he takes another second before saying, "I can fill it this month but I'm not sure I'll be able to next month." Now I'm very confused. A couple hours later I go to pick it up. They're not that busy so as the tech is checking me out I ask her if I can speak to the pharmacist. She asks why and I tell her I spoke on the phone earlier and was confused about what the pharmacist told me and just wanted to clarify. She walks over to the pharmacist and comes back and says something about it being a supply issue and they may not fill it next month. I reply, "OH, so it's just an inventory problem?" "Yes." I say, "Oh ok." Spouse is with me again and as we turn the corner I ask him, "Did she (tech) seem weird just now? That felt weird." He says to me, "Oh yea, her whole demeanor changed when she tried to say to you it was a supply issue."

So, as I said, I've been on this treatment for at least the last 10 years. I have never had the pharmacy employees in Walgreens do this. Two months in a row they told me they couldn't fill one of my Add scripts just for them to turn around and fill the same script. I don't know what is going on, but per some reading, I have noticed a trend with Walgreens in particular. When they have to pay out a lawsuit they tend to overcorrect. It appears to have started (with controlled meds anyway) in 2013 after they had to pay a massive fine from the DEA. That's when they initiated their "Good Faith Policy" where pharmacists were instructed to screen customers as if they were dealers or addicts.

In summary, I suspect this has something to do with the Ohio lawsuit that Walgreens (along with Walmart, CVS, and I think Riteaid) just lost in November, which is now causing a chain reaction because due to the outcome of that case, other municipalities are beginning to file similar lawsuits as well. Obviously, this is all just my own speculation. But the last week or so I have continued to check the FDA and another site someone posted a while back in the thread and it does not appear there is a legitimate shortage. I have experienced times when there were actual shortages and it was always indicated at the very least on the FDA website.

These are just my conclusions on the matter, but I'm already planning on inquiring with a locally-owned pharmacy across the street from my current Walgreens because, in my specific situation, I've had the pharmacists lie to me 2 months in a row and tell me they were out of 30 IR, when they indeed were able to fill my medication and did so when I questioned it or waited until it was a different shift with different employees. If they're being instructed to cut back on controlled prescriptions that they fill they should just say so, instead of lying and sending patients into a whirlwind of stress and anxiety wondering what is going on.

Yes, I am also in Florida, Duval Co. I'm including some of the articles I've read.

War is not the blame. DEA gives manufacturers an amount they can produce. DEA is BS. My wife takes this and it's No STOCK. This is BS children are really suffering in school. Grades going down big time.

Yes, I take generic Adderall for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as it’s the only thing that has helped. I was able to get my extended release filled, but not my instant release. I prefer the instant because my illness is unpredictable and I may need more or less depending on the severity of my fatigue. With the extended I can only take one in the morning and if I need more later in the day I’m screwed because if I took an extended later, then I’d be up all night. I even got my doctor involved and they couldn’t even find one place that has them in FL. I’m in FL, but from GA. I asked if the same issue is happening in GA and they said yes. Not sure what to do now, as this has negatively impacted my life at the time I need it the most since I’m moving and needing energy to move.

escript = electronic script/prescription

Per FL Board of Medicine:

House Bill 831 (2019), Electronic Prescribing, was signed into law by Governor DeSantis. The effective date is January 1, 2020. The bill provides important new requirements for prescribers to generate and transmit all prescriptions electronically upon licensure renewal or by July 1, 2021, whichever is earlier.
