Adderall Backorder (Page 38)
UpdatedI take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?
Re: Lynn (# 738)
I had to do my own research on why there is a shortage. MEDICAID!!! Apparently Medicaid only paid for generics, recently changed to only get name brand. Therefore the two companies that made generic immediately stopped making it. Imagine that???
Yes; the brand name dexedrine also does not work anymore. This is the Obama Chinese way.
The reason is Lannett bought out TEVA and therefore there is no TEVA as we know it. They distribute it and have a new (well, relatively new) deal with them.
Re: Wendy (# 737)
Same I feel so crummy. 2 weeks no medicine. It's really messing up my day to day. I suffer from hypothyroidism and I've never abused my medicine. I start school again soon and I'm afraid that I'm not going to be able to focus properly.
Re: MadeByLaurenB (# 740)
No generic either-Teva is long gone. No 20s or 30s IR or XR. Some 10s available for short pd of time.
What is happening!??
Re: Shifty nightshifter (# 745)
Lost my job. The difference (for me, between Teva/Lannett generics are night and day)
Had I known, I would have prepped better for this.
Yes, every month i go through this anxiety, for 4 months i have had to wait at least a week after my prescription runs out to have it finally filled, as of now ive been out since Friday and it is now Wednesday, they offered me the 64 pills they had left but i wont beable to get the rest if it filled after it comes in?????
Re: Kris Hartland (# 747)
Costco quite often carries them all the time. Call them prior.
Re: Jeno712003 (# 748)
They did not carry enough of what I take and I've called around to other pharmacies as well that had different suppliers and they too were all on backorder, so I had the Dr. Change my medication. Hopefully that will work, providing my insurance covers it, there is always that little problem as well.
Re: Kris (# 749)
Try Costco. Maybe you wouldn't have thought of them, but try. You don't have to be a member. Plus, they take goodrx! Or, do you have a Kroger near you?
Re: Kris (# 749)
Use goodrx - coupons on site and app that are often cheaper than your insurance! I use them for my costly meds.
I could not get my script refilled last month still waiting
Re: Wendy Garcia (# 741)
So, why don’t they just fill the name brand instead then? Everything is back ordered.
You can look up the list of backordered pharmaceuticals. The back order is due to some manufacturers breaking with discontinued products snd having to find a different option to fulfill those orders, other distributors have recently begun updating their back order status as available. I know 30mg adderall IR has been backordered for 2-3 months, same as all the strengths. Yesterday, my pharmacy received 20mg, and they seem to think this is enough reason to believe the 30mg IR will come in soon, but that isn’t anything I’ll believe until I see for myself. For more information, you can go here:
https://www.ashp.org/drug-shortages/current-shortages/drug-shortages-list?page=CurrentShortages
Shortages are at most pharmacies, and it’s probably worse if you’re near or in a big city, smaller cities with pharmacies not used as often may have leftovers they are willing to offer the remainder of if it doesn’t fulfill your whole prescription during the shortage over. Nice one pharmacy begins to be replenished, the others will be soon to follow. The backordered pharmaceuticals lift and information gets updated regularly, from what I can tell, and it lists each distributor, reasons for the shortage, the expected duration of the shortage, and it appears to update and get listed as Available when the medication/distributor/dose becomes available.
Re: Kris Hartland (# 747)
I would take the 64 pills, tell your doctor, and get a new prescription because depending on your area and how many others are awaiting their backordered medication, those suppliers may not fulfill the order at that specific pharmacy for awhile. And depending on how many others get the same script, you may end up waiting again. You were lucky to get offered the final few they had left before they became affected by the discontinued medications and shortages.
Re: Shifty nightshifter (# 745)
They will fill the supply back up soon, everything is taking awhile to adjust to an increase in new prescriptions, so says the FDA in why the shortages are occurring, as well as a discontinuation of one specific type that other distributors will need to fill in and make up for the difference in those no longer being distributed.
This time of year it can be difficult to find Schedule II medications. The DEA allocates a specific amount of active ingredients for Schedule II drugs at the beginning of each year. In recent years the DEA has been reducing the active ingredients given each manufacturer for Schedule II medications. When a manufacturer reach's their limit. they can request more active ingredients but it is a process that takes time. Due to the time it takes and the new year being a few months away. Manufacturers just wait until the new year to manufacturer the drug again. It can be January or early February before these drugs are back in stock normally at pharmacies
Re: YogagalLA (# 755)
Walgreens here in the midwest is totally out of generic Adderall IR.
I asked the pharmacist and he advised me that the reason was that they are changing from TEVA to another manufacturer.
For those who shop at Walgreens and have had negative things to say about Teva, I think if you stay with Walgreens, you are going to want to Teva back.
The Walgreens pharmacist did advise me that a grocery store name Kroger‘s has a larger supply to choose from. The authenticity of this, of course, is uncertain
Re: BlessedLady (# 757)
Another reason, possibly, for the shortage is the massive demand of college kids in high school kids getting their refills in September.
However, as stated previously in this thread, it appears Walgreens is changing it’s manufacturer.
Re: Optimistic (# 734)
The problem is multiple manufacturers such as Mylan and Sun pharmaceuticals discontinue the drug. Most pharmacies refuse to purchase Mallinckrodt. TEVA Is being bought out, and I think they’ve been using their formula for some time which explains its poor efficacy for some time. I believe those who hated Teva will soon want them back desperately.
