Adderall Backorder (Page 23) (Top voted first)

Updated

I take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?

Re: Isobel (# 1478) Expand Referenced Message

I'm wondering? Why is these states filing lawsuits getting billions for what they call an "opioid epidemic"? The government knew? They are making billions off methadone clinics in each town on top of being able to sue these pharma? We are the ones still suffering bc the epidemic isn't opoids, it's heroin and cartel which our government have allowed for decades to come thru! I have 70 y/o 80 y/o giving up and going hospice bc they have no choices? They either can't afford which gov is allowing or they cant get their meds when they are supposed to? What is wrong with this picture?

I just want to say that my most recent prescription of Adderall by TEVA (9/15/22) is absolute garbage. Doesn't work at all. They're 20mg tablets. So, today I decided to take 2 and see if it'd help. NOTHING. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. I had Sandoz the month before and they were MUCH BETTER. I'm barely functioning. This is just ridiculous!! I'm losing all hope and am thinking I may as well get off of it altogether.

Increasing dosage of Adderall by 100% can have the opposite effect of what you're wanting. Known fact - too high a dose of can be counter-productive, and actually flood the pre frontal cortex with too much dopamine, causing foggyness, confusion, headaches, irritability, and mess up the autonomic nervous response to stimuli.... More isn't more with amphetamines. More is less.

The premise of your test was scientifically flawed.

The new Sandoz. I truly believe that they are better than the TEVA I got filled on the 15th of September. I have to say that everyone's body processes drugs differently. What works for one person may not work for the other. Also, I only had 1 side effect on Sandoz,,,excessive sweating. With my newest prescription of TEVA I am nauseous and bloated. I'd rather sweat than feel sick to my stomach all day long. LOL. All of the Adderall produced in the past couple of years is absolute garbage. In 2019 and before you could get what I call a "true amphetamine ". I could take a quarter of a 20mg pill and fly for hours. I was organized and on top of everything. Then it started changing,,,ALL of the Adderall has been awful since then. It's sickening that no one manufacturers a decent Adderall pill. I have found the same problem with pain medication. I've had 2 major back surgeries and at first the pain meds were great. It's also been hit or miss since 2019. What also worries me is that I'm sure the same thing is happening with other medications like antidepressants. These manufacturers are "f****ing with people's mental and physical health. It's becoming scarier and scarier. God help us all in the coming years.

"makers of the drug don’t blame excess prescriptions for the short supply. According to Teva, the US’s biggest producer of Adderall, the problem is due to labor shortages, which have caused delays in production and packaging. The US government also limits the amount of drugs each company can produce, and the pharmaceutical firms are advocating for an increased allowance."

I don't think 40 mg is too high a dose. Especially with these new generics. Regardless of what your scientific research has said

Re: Davemp88 (# 1514) Expand Referenced Message

I just picked up my script from Walgreens. Teva 30mgs to me there the best generic. Have like a sweet taste. I always get teva. A company called lannett has same exact generic looking as teva, the only difference is lannett has a “e” instead of ‘b’ like teva and no sweet aftertaste . People think they’re getting Teva when first eyed when you peak inside the bottle.

Lannett is the not good according to a friend, not the worst but not as good as Teva. I been on 30mgs for 6 years always Teva. Although there was a month I got sandoz which I liked

Why some (like me) may get anxious when they have difficulty obtaining a generic Adderall that works -- comorbid disorders.

1. PTSD
2. Persistent depressive disorder
3. Generalized anxiety disorder
4. Personality disorder (non specified)
5. And of course ADHD.

It costs nothing to be kind rather than judgmental.

We are just trying to get back to where we were before this shortage occurred.

"The FDA expects most dosages of Teva’s generic Adderall to be on backorder until March."

The Verge: Adderall is officially in short supply:
theverge.com/2022/10/13/23402524/adderall-shortage-fda-teva-pharmaceutical

The truth will eventually come out about this cover up. Something is VERY amiss. C'mon... Suddenly Sandoz, Lannett, and all the other manufacturers can't up their production. Bull. They're asking us to believe 2+2=6.

Re: Rcma (# 1529) Expand Referenced Message

The FDA put a cap on the amount on controlled substances they can manufacture. I don't know what it is. Say all companies have a max of one million Adderall pills they can manufacture. If teva only did 10,000 out of one million pills and the other company already did their one million pills. The FDA prevents that other company from making any more pills to cover the slack. It's really dumb, I know. Just like if the demand from prescriptions calls for 2.1 million pills, some people with legitimate prescriptions are going to get screwed because the FDA prevents the two companies from making the additional 100k pills. They are just trying to control all the controlled substances.

"Experts suggest you choose a substitute carefully because the effects of these medications can vary widely.

For example, "generics can sometimes be less bioavailable [how much of the drug is absorbed into the bloodstream], and that can make it harder to get an exact dose match between medications," explained Dr. Eric Hollander, director of the Autism and Obsessive-Compulsive Spectrum Program at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City.

"If the dose is too high, sometimes kids can get more withdrawn or weepy. If it's too low, they can't get adequate control of their symptoms during the day, and they can get a rebound later in the day. The new medicine may wear off faster. It's also not easy to switch from extended-release formulas to immediate-release," Hollander said.

The driving force behind the shortage is a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) policy that sets limits on the manufacturing of ADHD drugs, to limit the supply of these drugs to people who might use them illegally, according to a report by The New York Times. In some cases, drug companies manufacture both generic versions of ADHD drugs as well as the more expensive, branded versions, which can limit choices even further.

"This is the unfortunate result of well-intentioned policies combined with free market forces. It's a very substantial issue, and one that's affecting some families more than others," said Dr. Andrew Adesman, chief of developmental and behavioral pediatrics at the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children's Medical Center of New York in New Hyde Park.

Whatever the reason behind the shortage, several drug companies that produce amphetamine products, including Adderall, have reported shortages to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. And, companies producing various forms of methylphenidate are also seeing shortages.

Both Hollander and Adesman said they've had reports from parents that Adderall and its generic equivalent have been harder to get. They both suggest that parents call from pharmacy to pharmacy in their area to see which one might carry the needed medication."

Yep south Florida here. Been on adder. for 8 years and never seen anything like this. Going on 9 weeks since Walgreens has had my script with no fill. For the last month or so when I call for any update they are very nasty and rude on the phone and treat you as though you have called them 10 times daily for the last month asking same question. I could care less how many calls you are getting daily from your adderall patients all asking the same thing. Too bad u don’t like that part of your job then find a new one. Are people like me who have been out of a medicine for months, one necessary to function normal supposed to feel sorry for calling every few days because we are freaking out going so long without our meds?? It’s ridiculous

Sorry to say, if you do a Google search "Adderall Shortage", just in the last 12 hours there are literally countless publications reporting what we've been experiencing for months.

So, nothing has changed for the better.

Adderall shortage is so bad some patients can’t fill their prescriptions

https://www.tampabay.com/news/health/2022/10/20/theres-national-shortage-adderall-heres-how-cope/
There’s a national shortage of Adderall. Here’s how to cope.
Manufacturers of the drug used to treat ADHD are struggling to meet a shortfall caused by delays at one supplier.

Even the New York Times considered it news worthy

This is BFD. IT'S truly unimaginable that the reasons they're giving are legitimate. Pharmaceutical Wholesalers and manufacturers know all about "logistics" and EXACTLY what the demand/supply gap has been, is, will be. The fact that the media has to write about this is an indication that MANY corporate executives and government bureaucrats saw this happening months ago, And didn't give a s***.

This shortage is for real and I don't think most places will have any Adderall until January 2023! Literally nobody had any today! Plus I'm tired of having to go to 4 or 5 places every month to fill my script so I went to my Doctor today and asked her to write me Ritalin, and she did with no problem. I didn't have any issues filling the Ritalin, the first pharmacy I went to had it. So far so good, it's very similar. The only difference is that it doesn't remain in your system for as long as Addy, but that's not a problem for me bcuz I like to sleep at night lol. Good Luck y'all, I know it sucks but fortunately there are other options, at least until things are back to normal.

My last fill through CVS was the fastest yet. Of course they were out of stock when they processed my script, but it showed up two days later. Last time I had to wait 6 days and it was only a partial. Also, every time I have picked up my meds its been a different brand. First camber, then activis, then Rhodes.

My psych doctor said he has switched his patients to other meds due to unavailability of Adderall. He had mentioned Vyvanse to me several times but I prefer IR tablets. He does not prescribe Dexedrine but sent out a script for 10 days of Mydayis 25mg AM and 12.5 mg afternoon to try. Now I just have to find a pharmacy who will order them and the cash to pay for them. I have had Teva the last 3 months but the pharmacist doesn't know if she will be able to get them in December. I find the new ones slightly better than nothing. People in a facebook ADHD group have said they have had no issues with shortages in other states. My doctor was stunned to hear that I no longer have to take meds for hypertension as my blood pressure is low now. Makes us suspicious about the quality of the Teva. I don't do much of anything when taking them. Lost interest. So I am existing. If you have good insurance, you might try the Mydayis. It was developed by Shire, but info is on Takeda website for help with cost. I found that info on GoodRx. Not liking the new normal. Lived it for too many years.

Re: Isobel (# 1599) Expand Referenced Message

Thanks.
Modafinil isn't for me. But some find it helpful so I posted it. It actually does nothing for me except a little anxiety. A friend who works 3rd shift says it's like magic for him. Go figure.

As for Vyvanse... A friend of mine was on it and she found that opening the capsule and dissolving it and some iced tea and then drinking it in two or three doses during the day was WAY effective vs the entire pill at once.

Another trick....ALL amphetamines will hit your bloodstream faster and harder in an alkaline environment. So, for example, taking it with Tums or Mylanta has been known to give people rapid heartbeat ... Too intense...and a bad crash feeling. Acidic (grapefruit juice) lowers efficacy. It's Googleable

When a stimulant makes you sleepy it's often an over dosage. . Which is why it's so odd that people say that it's like taking a placebo and oddly if they took half the dosage of the same exact pill they might get the benefit. More isn't more with amphetamines. Blowing out dopamine receptors will have a bad rebound.

Re: Rcma (# 1644) Expand Referenced Message

If the government is concerned about overprescription, they should enact legislation that targets the problem at its source - the doctors prescribing unneeded medication. Lowering the quota for the active ingredient makes it harder for patients with legitimate prescriptions just as much as it does for those without a legitimate need.

This is all BS anyway... the DEA treats stimulants like Adderall the same way as things like opioids despite the risk factor of the two being no where near the same. While exact data is vague, most estimates are that annual deaths caused by stimulants including Adderall is somewhere between 500-3,000 people yearly. Compared to the over 50,000 opiod deaths per year.

It's incredibly frustrating the DEA continues to just choose to inflict stress on ADHD patients for basically no reason, despite the drugs being a longterm solution for many. By all means, target Telehealth and burn them to the ground - but don't negatively impact legitimate patients!

"Either have it at a fairly consistent basis or ban it outright but don't have patients bending over backwards over trying to get it."

I agree. Totally rational statement!. But this isn't a rational situation. The DEA is a political institution and I'm guessing there is some sort of political pressure behind all this quite sudden "crack down.".

I don't know why you feel the need to project feelings onto me - I'm feeling fine. I'll just be ignoring your posts henceforth, since it feels like you're just trying to pick a fight with everyone. Take care.
