Adderall Backorder (Page 12) (Top voted first)

I take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?

I mean, I'm strongly considering talking to my doctor about switching to Dexedrine (as its pure dextroamphetamine, one of the two amphetamines that are used to create Adderall, it should be a fairly smooth transition). While I haven't been completely out at any point during this shortage like some people here, the recurring stress and anxiety leading up to my refill date is really starting to wear me down - and from what I'm hearing, things are going to be getting worse, not better, for the foreseeable future.

Although, I'll say this: While not really an issue for me, the main issue for many with trying to switch to Dexedrine (and especially Vyvanse) is that due to a lack of generics, the price can be way higher (and many insurances may refuse to cover it).

If I do decide to try switching, I'll hop back here and let you guys know the results. As someone who has been on a consistent Adderall prescription for over a decade now, I should make for an ideal test case lol.

I’m in central FLA and have been through several shortages and B/O over the last 8 years but never have I ever experienced one this bad! I use Walgreens and I haven’t been able to refill now since 10/2! I’ve called 20 different stores and nothing. The other issue is with these new electronic scripts I can’t shop around to other pharmacies like Walmart, Publix, or smaller mom & pop pharmacies bc my script is electronic and they always say they can’t tell me over the phone and my doc would have to call. However my doctor isn’t calling 1 much less 10 different pharmacies to find out if they have them in stock for me! So I’m just stuck with waiting on Walgreens to hopefully one day get some supply in. This is ridiculous.

Yes! I’m in Central Fla and it’s been 2 weeks since i was due for my refill, and I’ve called 20 Walgreens and none have had it nor can say when they will get it. I tried calling a few other pharmacies like Walmart and Publix but they won’t tell me over the phone if they have it in stock since I no longer have paper prescriptions. With the new electronic scripts it’s nearly impossible to shop around to other pharmacies. This is beyond frustrating

Ritalin is not exactly the same but it's better than nothing I guess. It's half-life is about half of Adderall but it starts working much quicker. It last for about 4 or 5 hours and then there's a little bit of a crash unless you take more. It feels about the same as Addy, maybe even a bit stronger, but I probably just gotta get used to it. It's too early to give a true comparison. I'll let you know in a few days. Like I said, it's definitely better than nothing but so far I'm thinking that I'll probably go back to Addy once (or if) everything is back to normal.

Be prepared for next year. The DEA is again reducing the amount of Schedule II active ingredients they give manufacturers in 2023.

Seems like the FDA is missing the point,,, yet again. Legitimate ADD patients are being starved out,,, or bled out. Btw, I need a source for the supply info you mentioned. Appreciated.

Has anyone had any luck yet with 30mg IR? If so, can you please provide info such as which pharmacy (e.g. Walgreens, Rite Aid, CVS, CostCo, etc), amount (e.g. 60 pills/30 day supply), and the state or region in which you live?

I am still unable to fill my 30 mg IR (90 pills for a 30 day supply) in southeast Michigan. I normally fill at Walgreens, but have tried legit every pharmacy chain in a 100mi radius; my last fill was in early August.

I have been taking Vyvanse for the last two months (tried concerta for a month, which just put me to sleep). Vyvanse is better than nothing, but still, not very effective (and wears off quickly).

I also have multiple sclerosis, and consequent to being off of adderall, I have repeatedly been forgetting to take my MS meds twice daily. Plus, my exams for law school begin next week, and the anxiety, forgetfulness, inattentiveness, and now, depression, are off the charts.

Any leads on finding it in stock would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

P.s. I have absolutely found that taking Tyrosine with my meds is very beneficial.

Honestly... Not to insult anybody because I just lucked out and had a doctor who really explained the art and science behind us... But a lot of problems people have can be attributed to consuming too high a dosage and or an acidic diet, which makes a Big difference in bioavailability and serum levels

Why don't you get lost? There is absolutely no problem regarding benzodiazepines or anti-psychotic meds as far as I know. I know there are lots of Szasz's fans out there and that Americans love denying science but this being a psychiatric medication should be kept in mind since it impares and disrupts the lives of a big number of people. It's absolutely shameful for a this country to have a drug on backorder for over a year already. Either have it at a fairly consistent basis or ban it outright but don't have patients bending over backwards over trying to get it.

This is the most ridiculous mental health situation, the ones that take this medication everyday can’t just stop taking the medicine. It’s not easy to get scripts easily. Definitely a concern when this medication is taking with another medication and now it’s not available. What is wrong with this country

I went to cvs for a refill and expected to wait up to a week. However, for the first time in months, my medication was in stock and filled the same day! I also recieved a generic brand I have never had before (Amerigen / API pharma) It is decent, but not as effective as the Camber generic.

I took a month off to reset my body. I was on 60 mg a day. I just had it lowered to 40 mg a day and my regular pharmacy is Walgreens and they are terrible. I was prescribed 20 mg twice a day and they didn’t have them and they don’t really care to help me. Other pharmacies will work with your prescriber to change the dosage to 10 mg x 4 pills a day. Walgreens just continues to tell me to go somewhere else. Instead of calling my Doctor to accommodate a different strength!

Every pharmacy in the country is not out of generic Adderall. In some places it is available. Pharmacies have contracts with wholesalers who have contracts with manufacturers, but not with every manufacturer. If wholesaler usually has Teva and Camber, they send whichever one is in stock. Pharmacy cannot pick manufacturer when ordering. I know of a pharmacy that has not been out of stock but they will not take new Adderall patients.

If a wholesaler buys from 1 or 2 mfrs and they are both on backorder whatever pharmacies order from that wholesaler will not have any in stock. They cannot transfer from one distribution center with low demand to a distribution center with high demand. It just sits on shelf.Tracking system for controlled meds, probably since "opioid crisis". I went without for a month. Then received low quality meds in Jan. Nothing I have tried has worked adequately. It is not tolerance. They worked fine for 20 years, right up to Feb 2022.

I’ve confirmed with my newly retained attorney, yea you can sue the FDA and DEA under the FTCA. I plane to send the initial administrative complaint this week (step 1). If they don’t respond in 60 days I can in fact sue for negligence and proof of loss etc. just have to follow a very specific set of rules and guidelines.

The information from the FDA lists that all current manufacturers reported shortages due to supply issues.

However, Shire Pharmaceuticals has reported that their supply has improve, though it is still limited. They offer a pharmacy locator service by phone, so you can check and see what pharmacy in your area has it in stock.

Call 800-828-2088 and select option 5 in the automated system.

The pharmacists I spoke with (and there were a number of them as I tried to fill my last script, suggested that next month, I have the doctor write on the script that any combination of dosages is acceptable as long as my total prescription totals out at 2100 mg - so if I have to take a combination of 10s,20s and 30s - that will be fine - but that pharmacist was very clear - this needs to be written on there by the doc at the time that he is writing it - she cannot call into his office later and request a change by phone because it is a schedule II medication and nothing regarding those meds can be done over the telephone.
