Adderall Backorder (Page 11) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI take generic Adderall 20 mg for narcolepsy and there is not one local pharmacy that has it in stock. I have never had this problem before. The pharmacies are saying that it's on backorder from the manufacturer. Is anyone else having problems getting their scripts filled?
Live in NYC. I have been calling every pharmacy in the city, no one has it. Anyone in my area have any luck?
I only take Teva brand because of the feeling of anger I get with the other generics dextroamphetamine. I had problems for months getting the prescription for my son filled and he used CVS pharmacy. The kept telling us they were on back order. I get mine from a small pharmacy that had until this month gotten mine filled and then I had him tell his doctor to send to my pharmacy. One month they got his then they couldn't and now they cant get mine either and say they don't know when they will. I wonder if this is true or there is some other reason they don't want to give us that brand. They gave my son his made by Camber Pharmaceuticals. I have take one and they don't seem to do anything to me. I am in limbo wonder what next. I am almost 65 years old and have been diagnosed since my sons were in grade school and the oldest is 38 . I really need this medication to function. Any information on the inability to get Teva Brand would be appreciated.
Re: JR (# 1149)
So, let's solve the mystery of the missing meds....
As a group we have all established that
1. FDA website removed generic Adderall from shortage list on 5/31/2022.
2. Teva generics shipped a boat load to AmerisourceBergen. No shortage.
3. Walgreens, especially, either won't fill or uses crap "dollar store" knock off generic.
ALWAYS FOLLOW THE $. I say it's probably the PBMs. This article busts them. I have had honest pharmacists say (apologize):
Pharmacist: "we pay more for Teva than your PBM will give us. We will lose $ on your script"
and
"We break even on your script so that could be why we aren't allowed to order your preferred brand"
Me: "but this brand literally doesn't work"
Them: "I really am sorry but corporate won't lose $ if PBMs won't cover the cost".
It doesn't seem like it is supply issue. The "truth" is leaking out that it's PBMs. What pharmacy would sell a medication for LESS than they pay for it? I GUARANTEE YOU, as an investor, that Walgreens and CVS headquarters, CEOs CFOs have 1 bottom line: Quarterly Earnings Reports, exceeding Wall street's estimates for revenue and earnings... getting good press on CNBC, Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal, seeing stock price uptick, and annual growth estimates increase.
No CEO of a publicly traded company Will agree to stock a very popular high volume product that they lose $ on.
Using their positions as middlemen between drug payers, producers, and dispensers, PBMs often require pharmacies to sign contracts giving them their lowest price, which discourages pharmacies.

Yes, I'm now going about 45-50 mins away from my house to get my prescription! It's crazy! And that took me MONTHS! Idk what's up, but it's not ok. You can't just abruptly stop someones meds! Totally messes with your head. I did read that a couple of medication manufacturers had either gone outta business (????) or were bought out, and bc of jacked up prices on gas and everything else in this country right now, the companies are seeing enough money coming in bc I guess they would have to stay in a certain pricing bracket. It all comes down to money. As usual. Always the culprit... lol.. smh
Yes!!! I called Teva's customer service and the woman I spoke with said no. She said maybe the problem lies with the labeler/distributor. I don't know what to believe. Everyone is looking for TEVA brand. It's really the only decent (and I use that term loosely. Adderall isn't what it was 2 or 3 years ago). I'm so disgusted by all of this that I'm thinking of going back on Vyvanse or nothing at all.
Re: Jeno712003 (# 1188)
Aurobindo should be taken off the market as far as I'm concerned. Made me sick as well. I seem to have a high sensitivity to the 'fillers' they are putting in these pills. Most believe the FDA is doing their job. I say if they are then why are they allowing such garbage be made and sold to us consumers who need decent medication to function in our daily lives. SMDH!!
Re: BlessedLady (# 1078)
Maybe it's because I'm 73 and have been struggling to function on everything from 60 mg to as low as 20 mg a day after being on 120 mg for the 20 years following having a hysterectomy and both of my ovaries removed. I was so fidgety afterward I was afraid of losing my job, so I went to a counselor. Within a month I was taking 100 mg a day, and two or three years later someone else increased my dosage to 120 mg a day. I've been struggling to function on 1/6 or 1/2 my original dosage. I don't know why these doctors think that ADD just goes away as we age. And just we're retired doesn't mean we don't still want to be productive human beings. When I go without my pills for even a few days, my house looks like Germany after the war. Every dish I own winds up piled on my coffee table, and I spend most of my waking hours hunting for the stuff I've misplaced. My living space becomes full of stuff that's not quite done. I think that the aforementioned doctor may actually be practicing a form of agism. Or maybe he's just a dufus for thinking that retirees don't need to get things done! Take care.
Re: Cyr (# 1212)
Well I just spoke to a pharmacist at Costco who told me they were originally told that they wouldn’t be getting any 20 mg until OCTOBER but recently got word it’ll be mid-July. What the hell is going on??
Re: Lo (# 1229)
Same here. I'm from Arlington Texas and I'm getting the same information on my 30mg at Walgreens.
Re: Merriam (# 1256)
Miriam, how are you doing with the Camber now?
I can't even manage to get to the grocery store or take a shower.
Interesting update!
As all my posts say, I have never had an issue filling since I started to develop relationships with pharmacists who are willing to "have my back.". They're out there...
TODAY....
"We can fill 30mg tabs generic Adderall but it's still Rhodes, not Teva"
Me:. "Could you please check on 15s instead of the 30s?"
"Ok. Yes, we have those in Lannett if you want to have the doctor call it in"
Me: "I usually take straight dextroamphetamine sulfate (generic Zenzedi) but only Aurobindo was available and I can't tolerate it. Could you please check...."
"Yes. We can fill 180 in MALLINKRODT."
Me: curious...nationwide people are having backorder issues. Are you still getting supplied by ABC?
"YES, but we have our own warehouse that stocks large supplies, so we don't have to order directly from ABC like other pharmacies".
Publix.
And yes... Focalin is a dud. Anecdotally it's really good for hyperactive kids who can't focus. It mellows them out.
When I first posted this message I had went to Teva to try and find out if there was a shortage of medication or not. I sent a message asking if they were back ordered or was the pharmacy I go to just not wanting to get it for me. I did get a reply about a week ago saying that I should go to Walgreens that they had shipped some to their supplier. I am glad you all are getting yours. I have a problem with the Walgreens in my area and that is they don't approve of the medication or this is the feeling I get when trying to get them to order it for me. They have never gotten the Teva brand or any for me. They just stall and say they don't know when they will get them I have been out of medication since last part of June. My pharmacy has my prescription but are not able to get them and offer Camber brand. I just left it and have not let it get to me. I am not functioning well. What else is new? I have all but given up on being "Normal".
Re: Cyr (# 1297)
No, my standard Rx hasn't changed since 2011. Dexedrine/Zenzedi Dextroamphetamine Sulfate 10mg TID... unless I and my MD change it due to supply chain/manufacturer issues. Then we switch to Adderall generic 15mg TID. There are different conversion charts for ADHD meds, but we stick to 1:1.5 so 10 dex equals 15 add. Always IR. What has changed significantly... insanely.. is the quality and availability of the meds. Like everyone on this thread, I have experienced incrementally the decline of availability of quality generics with efficacy and no side effects. As said AUROBINDO is by far the #1 offender, decimating the national market... And I think after they got in the game, it suddenly became a pharma competition...a race to the bottom....who can mass market the worst crap at the cheapest Price...flood and dominate the market. "HECK, AUROBINDO is getting away with fraud and getting rich on it; the wholesale distributors are happy with larger margins, higher profit... the PBMs, pharmacies and FDA aren't barking.... Let's all just throw away quality, compliance and ethics and make big $$$ on s****y ADHD meds cuz enforcement and accountability doesn't exist! Honor system? Nah. "
Think about it. If someone in the class cheated and there was never adverse consequences and they are getting an A+.... but you were getting a B because you didn't want to cheat, eventually everybody will just cave in because being an honest player becomes a liability without deterrents.
Welcome to today's mess. That's my real world observationn and I have no proof to back it up. It started with Core Pharma around 2012... then AUROBINDO ran with it. Apparently Scott Gottlieb MD tore down the guard rails when he got appointment as FDA chief.
Re: Debbie M in California (# 1314)
I can empathize with you -- not so much because of the backorder situation but because I'm currently being prescribed dosages way below what I was prescribed for 20 years. I was taking 120 mg of amphetamine/dextroamphetamine salts and as soon as I turned 70 I was cut down by one prescriber to 20 mg a day. I had 5 different prescribers at my psych office last year, so it was a crap shoot from month to month. I don't feel like I was overprescribed at 120 mg. I know several people who were taking 100 mg a day, so I was only slightly above what they were taking. I did have to get a waiver for my insurance company to cover it, but they did so on a yearly basis with no problem. Now I'm struggling to get through each day. I've been doing whatever is necessary to feel like a functioning human being, but it irks me to pay out of pocket when my insurance company would cover the cost if I could only get someone to prescribe a dosage I could live with. I know just how you feel, because when I'm out of pills I barely get off the couch. I don't cook meals. And worst of all I don't take my other prescriptions regularly like I'm supposed to -- just thyroid pills, iron supplements, and vitamin D2 -- but I go days without them when I have no pills on hand. I'm scared to death about how I'm going to get through life like this. If anyone has a suggestion, please send it to me. Take care.
Re: Racer01 (# 1325)
I neither this is ridiculous!! I heard DEA said there is to many people on Adderall on there's a problem some BS it's over the 20% quota of prescriptions they expect written , so they decided to say NO MORE.. WTF I have severe ADHD.. I wasn't diagnosis til I was 35! When did the DEA become PHD ..
Re: Rcma (# 1408)
It’s adorable how this is all being blamed on “telehealth” prescriptions and not Teva. Sure, a surge in demand is definitely a part of the problem, but what’s the excuse for when the same exact thing happened in 2011?

Re: Blame Obama (# 16)
Has nothing to do with the Affordable Care Act buddy. This is simply not having enough supply to meet demand, either via over prescribing, supply chain issues, or collusion
Re: Rcma (# 1401)
Which is effing stupid because they only prescribe enough for 30 days. Then you get the new script 30 days and you have to wait a day or two, creating a lapse.
Re: Stephiep (# 1431)
Ugh, I’m very sorry to hear that! Please keep us updated. I am in the Detroit metro area and have tried everywhere in the radius from here to Ann Arbor and Bay City.
Re: Donna M (# 1430)
I have severe narcolepsy too, and I literally havre been asleep for the past 3 days.... this is not only torture but it is probably really dangerous. I feel your pain, I too cannot function. And there is no adderall in the city of Dallas at Walgreens as of current. (or at least the 18 i've called so far) and I don't think I have it in me to call one more bc if I have to listen to that hold music one more time I might jump in front of a bus. Hope you have luck!
