No registration is required and your identity remains anonymous. My 15 year old daughter is on 60mg of acutane for two months now. She recently woke in the middle of the night with severe stabbing pains in her stomach which resulted to a trip to the emergency room. After numerous tests and blood work there was no diagnosis. I am wondering if this could be a side affect of the acutane. I myself took acutane over 20 years ago and only had the common side affects of dry skin and chapped lips. After speaking to her dermatologist he tried to assure me that it was highly unlikely a side aeefect of the acutane. I am a concerned and confused as to what to believe....help ## Actually, while it isn't common, it is a possible side effect of the Accutane. Learn more Accutane details here. It can also cause gastritis, which can cause severe stomach/abdominal ...
1 REPLY Updatedmy son is on acutane for acne. can he take sulfameth trimeth for an infection at the same time? ## Hi emily, Based on my research there are no drug interactions found between Accutane (isotretinoin) and Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim. This does not necessarily mean no interactions exist, but my sources state that every effort has been made to ensure that the information provided is accurate. In conclusion, these two medications are regarded as being safe to take together and shouldn't present any problems outside of the normal side effects associated with each medication. I hope this helps to answer your question!
1 REPLY UpdatedPersonally i think accutane does wonders. I had severe cystic acne all over my back and face. I have been on it for about 5 months now my face is completely clear and my back is 80% there. You must take certain precautions. Drinking water is extremely important and it is also very good to take a few days break every month. Lip moisturizer and sun block is very important too. I always moisturize. You can go to the beach but make sure to take care of your skin. Always use sun block until your body adjusts to the sun. I always put a base coat of 30 spf and then some light tanning lotion with spf 15. Your skin becomes really clear. Do not drink alcohol. It is very hard to avoid alcohol esp. if you are taking it as a teenager because all your friends do it. But it defeats the purpose of accu...
2 REPLIES UpdatedHello, I am 23 and due to start accutane next week....having read these threads I am very concerned about the adverse affects it might have on my already 'petite' frame. I am wondering if anybody could tell me the effects specifically on somebody of my stature: I am about 1.5 stone underweight. I weigh 7.5 stone and stand at 5'9. Can anybody tell me from experience...is this going to savage my body? ## To be completely honest, if it were me, I wouldn't take this one. I am not usually one to tell anyone not to take something, but in this case it is a benign medication that's not life sustaining, it's something that's used to treat cystic acne, which is also not life threatening, therefore with all the posts and reports I've read from people that have suffe...
1 REPLY UpdatedI am very sorry that people have had problems with accutane but for me it was a miracle drug. I had severe acne as a teenager and still was suffering in to my late 20's. The self esteem issues that this caused were extreme. At age 27 I went on accutane and my acne was cured! My son and niece also used accutane and did not go through the bullying I went through because of acne. I am sad that this drug is off of market and no longer an option for severe acne sufferers. ## I'm very glad that it worked so well for you and other family members, but it did cause some severe problems and that's why it was removed from the market. There were many lawsuits over severe IBS from people that used it, plus it was found to cause birth defects in the children of users. Are there any other ...
4 REPLIES Updatedi would like to know if there is anybody in here who got pregnant just 30 day or less after the last dose of accutane ,or anybody who could give me real facts about how long accutane really stays in the body,i got pregnant exactly 29 day after my last dose and i'm really scared cuz i want to have this baby but i need to be sure he/she will be fine ## Well, you are supposed to prevent yourself from becoming pregnant for a full 30 days after your last dosage, so that would lead me to believe that it can still cause some problems for at least that long, after finishing it. Learn more Accutane details here. That's what you have to sign the iPLEDGE agreement and use 2 forms of contraception. Have you talked to your doctor? They should be able to do some tests. ## I got pregnant month...
3 REPLIES UpdatedMy daughter was prescribed accutane on 2 separate occasions at age 16. She is now 26 and for the past 3 years we have had her go to every doctor, specialist possible. Blood works always seems to be ok . She can not keep weight on her joint always ache she has had bone growth issues,( Left side Jaw has become larger) . She now has a recurrence of cystic (mild) acne coming on. She goes out in the sun and never tans. We have checked her for everything and they say she is fine. That's my daughter and she suffers. Any help would be like gold to us. Could this have anything to do with accutane. ## Have you checked out the Accutane Side Effect thread on here yet? I think you may find a lot of questions and answers there to many of the long term effects of this drug (including lawyer inform...
1 REPLY UpdatedContact the link below: accutane.poweradvocates.com/index.html The more people that address their issues with this lawyer group, the better chance we have of getting the ball rolling to stop the injustices being caused by Accutane! I also signed the petition on this discussion Blog. Make it count, continue moving forward to a resolution so no one else unknowingly endures the hardships hidden by this dangerous drug! ## Thank you for your post and link. We've had posts from quite a few people that were harmed through the use of Accutane and I am sure they will be glad to go to the website and sign up. Are there any questions or comments? ## I was on accutane in "85", I lived in MI at the time. It helped while I was on it, the side effects were too severe, I stopped it in the 4...
2 REPLIES UpdatedMy Dermatologist suggested that I take xorimax for 4 months to clear my severe acne. I have cystic acne as well as white heads and black heads. I can't take accutane as I am planning to start a family. I was just wondering that isn't that a very long dose of antibiotics. Any suggestions? ## I went through 5 rounds of accutane in my 20's. I had severe bloody noses several times, and what could only be described as clenching headaches one evening that started on one side and moved to the other in an intense throbbing sensation. My dermatologist said it was a precursor to a stroke. After being diagnosed with OCD, going home and reading about it, and realizing stress is just the failure to adapt, I began to sleep better and my acne got better. I also highly reccomend the book (o...
2 REPLIES UpdatedI am so very sorry for all your problems with Accutance, but I absolutely adore this drug! I took Accutane when I was 15 because I went to sleep crying every night because I could not wear the dresses, basketball, or cheerleading uniforms that I was required to wear. I am now 22 and still have wonderful skin. I would take this drug over again and I would recommend it to ANYONE. I hate that some of you had awful results with this drug, but I think it is wonderful. I did not suffer any side affects and have yet to. The drug did exactly what it said it did for me....although who knows I may be having a parrot for a baby 5 years from now :) ## Well I pray that when you get older and you have children (if you are able to) that you will not have a doctor come in and tell you that your child h...
5 REPLIES UpdatedI was 16 and on accutane for cystic acne in 1985. I remember sitting in class, taking a test and a drop of blood from my nose hit my test paper. I actually had blood clots from my nose! In my early 20's i had constant neck and shoulder tension. I am starting to believe the chronic aches and pains are due to taking accutane. My mom has always thought that I suffer from arthritis. ## Have you discussed this with a doctor? It is well known that Accutane can cause odd side effects and some health problems that may be permanent and can show up long after someone has taken it.
1 REPLY UpdatedI have taken accutane when I was 26, 36 and 41. I'm now 48 and thinking of taking it again as the oil on my face has come back worst than when I was in my 20's. I now have enlarged oil glands that have come to the surface so now instead of having pimples I have bumps that almost look like little warts on my face. Freezing them doesn't do anything. I've scraped a couple off with my fingernail but they come right back. Accutane will take care of them but at my age I'm not sure about taking it for a 4th time. Even when it's a cold out my face starts getting shinny before I've even left for work. Any success stories on how to get rid of enlarged oil glands without accutane? ## As to the Accutane, I'd suggest discussing it with your doctor, there can be some p...
1 REPLY UpdatedI was perscribed accutane or roaccutane in the UK when I was about 19 (1997) all seemed well at first but in the last 15 years I have suffered from boils/systs mainly around my face and head area, my hair started going grey not long after taking the medicine and yesterday I found out I have arthritis in my wrists. I'm only 34 and none of these problems are prevalent in my family. My advice is, stay clear or try other alternative medicine or put up with the acne, If I could go back I would rather have the acne than the possible side efects of this drug.
UpdatedMy 25 yr old daughter took accutaine 6 months ago, for 5 months and now has depression and fatigue. Also she has ringing in her ears, blurry vision and headaches. She's having trouble working as she did a year ago. Anyone else have these symptoms? Any suggestions about what she can do to help with these symptomsand how long they may last? Thanks for any help anyone can offer. ## Accutane is actually well known for causing such symptoms, even after the course of treatment is finished. However, to be certain that's what has caused them, she should see a doctor who can give her a proper diagnose and help her find solutions. Are there any other questions or comments?
1 REPLY UpdatedI just ended Accutane. I was on 80 mg. I just ended it today. I was wondering if anybody knew when my chapped lips, loss of hair, dry nose, dry skin, and aching bones will go away? ## Hello Jessika, Please read this Discussion Thread with over 600 post. There are many questions and a lot of good answers to what can happen. I opened this thread up 2 years ago cause my son was having the same symptoms as you. Best Wishes, Scott ## Sorry to say my dry lips NEVER went away. I took Acutane when I was 20, now 43. Jo Malone makes an excellent lip moisturizer, I live by it! ## The thread that Scott is recommending is very helpful! I posted in there a couple of times, as I took Accutane when I was 16. I'm 22 now and still have dry lips. It's not severe or anything, but I do find myself h...

1 REPLY UpdatedMy son (Age 17) took Accutane for about 17 weeks when he started going downhill mentally. Dermatologist would not continue treatment until we brought in a note from a psychiatrist saying he was okay. I chose not to continue with treatment. Son seemed to be okay. Anyway, he now has odd behavior going around the house saying schnit, schnit, schnit and no, no, no. He also sticks his chin out, makes and odd movement with his lips, and you can see the cords in his neck. He sometimes stops when he walks. This seemed to start after stopping the Accutane which was around 6 weeks ago. He has lost weight, isn't interested in eating anymore, and feels that he has something wrong with his stomach. He looked at me one time and it was so sad because he looked haunted. Has anyone had any experienc...
2 REPLIES UpdatedMy son who is now 20 took Accutane for the first time when he was 16 but had a seizure in the 2nd month. He, of course, was taken off and they said it was most likely not connected. At the age of 19 he started with Accutane again. In the 5th month he started having severe joint pain so he stopped again (his face was cleared). Within 6 months we noticed our son being more withdrawn from friends but also had rage outburst. We associated it with college and their pressures. We did however start getting phone calls from his roommates saying he was very alone, talked of depression and had extreme mood swings with explosive rage outburst. Since summer break was coming up we got him in counseling and was also started on an antidepressant. We witnessed his rage first hand and it scared my whole...
1 REPLY UpdatedI went on accutane a year and a half ago for 6 months. I was apprehensive at first as I had heard that accutane was a very strong drug, but after speaking to my dermatologist I felt calm enough to give it a try. I now see how doctors can fool you just to make money and it makes me sick. I had bad joint andmuscle pains while on it, but was told that these symptoms would disappear once I was off the medication. I have had had joint and muscle problems ever since coming off that damn drug and its now 2 years later. It was only just recently that it could as bad as it is now and I now have pain in ALL my joints. I am only 21 but I honestly feel like I am about 80. My joints constantly click and I have especially bad pain in my wrists, fingers, knees and feet. I also get muscular pains in my...
