I took accutane almost 14 years ago as a teenager. I am now a 32 year old woman who has just been diagnosed with infertility that they believe is linked to autoimmune issues. I truly believe that accutane is the cause of this; from the research that I have done it seems that accutane has been linked to other thyroid-related diseases, but that they have not yet been able to prove a link between accutane and infertility. There are, however, actually more people like me out there than I originally thought. Being diagnosed with ovarian dysfunction has been a horrific, horrific blow. And while there was plenty of information about accutane and birth defects, no one ever mentioned a possibility of future infertility. I was a teenager! This is a tragedy and I believe something should be done about it. If you too have been affected diagnosed with infertility and have taken accutane, please email me. There are plenty of suits against accutance. If there are enough of us, we can come together to do the medical research and get the help we now need.

I was prescribed isotretinoin by a dermotologist as a "vitamin cure" to clear up my slightly oily t-zone I had zero pimples but a slightly oily t-zone and easily greasy hair. I would have never considered to take pimple creams or antibiotics because I didnt have any pimples and I didnt want to take anything strong, but the doctor said this was a simulation of a vitamin that the body already produces. Stupidly enough I started taking this "supplement" without looking it up online, then after two months of taking this "vitamin" and losing almost all of my hair I went to a regular doctor to ask why I was losing all my hair and turns out it was because of isotretinoin (accutane). I immidiately stopped taking it but my hair has not grown back fully. I am a 27 yearold female who always got my period like clockwork but after taking this poison I lost my period for nine months once and it comes very irregularly and rarely now. Does anyone know of any link between the hair loss while on accutane and fertility issues? My husband doesnt want to try to have children until he is at least 35 which means Ill be 37 and Im worried it might never happen because of a lying dermatologist

I also took accutane as a teen. I'm a male who was suffering with severe cystic acne all over my face chest and back. I was on high doses for a long period of time. I'm now 37 and feel like accutane has played a roll some how with me. I've tried for many years to get my girlfriend preganat and. It successful. I haven't been seen by my doctor for it. It's just been on the back burner from this point. Are there males as well suffering with infertility issues do to accutane?

This is a devasting blow. I didn't expect your reply to be so extreme. So even if I still tried and was successful the odds are he/she would have birth defects. I'm just really angry now. Is there any way to sue for this? Or some type of compensation.

Thankyou angel. I'll do more research. From what I'm seeing it might be best to be infertile after taking this drug do to the defect that are most likely to happen if I were to have kids. I can't believe this. Thankyou for your reply

I am 42 years old and not been successful at getting pregnant. My brother also took it back in high school and he cannot get his wife pregnant. I have been off birth control for 15 yrs, tried ovulation tests and nothing! I had my hormone levels checked and thyroid checked. Both normal.

I have been trying to get pregnant for 4 and a half years. Have had all tests possible done and my primary care doctor and ob say everything looks good. I have tried iui with 2 different specialists. My primary care and one of the specialists are shocked at my AMH levels and say that the test must be wrong. I am 38 and took two rounds of Accutane. One when I was 22/23 and the other when I was 27. I cannot stop thinking that because of Accutane my dream of being a mom will never come true. I am completely devastated.

I have been trying to get pregnant for 4 and a half years. Have had all tests possible done and my primary care doctor and ob say everything looks good. I have tried iui with 2 different specialists. My primary care and one of the specialists are shocked at my AMH levels and say that the test must be wrong. My ob told me that I probably have PCOS. She gave me Clomid and Metformin which didn't work. I am 38 and took two rounds of Accutane. One when I was 22/23 and the other when I was 27. I cannot stop thinking that because of Accutane my dream of being a mom will never come true. I am completely devastated.

I took Accutane in 1991 I can't get pregnant. Im,42 now haven't been on birth control for 15 years

Have you given a semen sample? And if so, what were the results. I have no sperm whatsoever. I had a testicular biopsy done, and the doc said I flat out don't have the glands that make them. All my testosterone and stuff is fine though.

I took roaccutane in 1997 for a brief period. I have been trying for a baby for 3 years, with no luck. My partners tests are good. They have told me it is unexplained infertility as no evidence in my tests of any problems e.g. ovulation, Fallopian tubes all ok. I've barely used contraception over my 24 years of menstruation. The only medical treatment I've ever had was this medication for acne. I want to uncover if there is a definite link between accutane and infertility.

I recently took Roaccutane treatment for acne (sep to dec 2016) at the age of 37. Now i wanted to check on my fertility, end of Dec 2016 had blood tests and AMH levels almost at alarming 0, with menstruation all over the place and unpredictable, which never happened before. There was nothing about these side effects available nor the doctor mentioned possible effects, when discussing different treatment options for acne.

I took Roaccutane when I was 15/16 years old for no more than 6 months in conjunction with a birth control pill to clear my pimples, after that time I stopped taking all medications. 4/5 years later my pimples returned and pretty much were there until I was 30 years old. The only times my skin was clear was when I was on the pill, which was only for 2 years from the age 18 to 25 (I was on and off it). Between age 20 to 28 I suffered thrush constantly, keeping in mind I wasn't taking any medications. When I was 26 I had an ovarian cyst, and had it removed, to date I haven't had any since. At age 32 my periods became irregular 3 or 5 periods a year, prior to that I had one every 30 days approx. At age 35 my periods stopped. Now aged 40 I have been confirmed Post Menopausal.

The good news is that I haven't had thrush in 6 years, and prior to that only had thrush odd times like prior to my periods. (keeping in mind I had to follow strict diets of no sugar, however I now have learnt that an animal product free diet, high in fruit and vegetables would have been more effective, which I now follow)
Menopause was easy, I only got hot flushes the odd times, they have now passed. I don't have to worry about getting pregnant, keeping in mind I haven't had children and nor did I want them. So I may have been infertile all a long, but I can't confirm. Life is easier without periods, for holiday, intimacy, etc. Would I recommend this drug? The answer is NO! But I can't say I miss my periods and the worries of unplanned pregnancies. I don't know what is installed for me for the next few decades? But what is clear is that there are side effects to this drug that aren't obvious until many years later. If you have taken this drug and want children I would highly recommend having them before you turn 30.

Hi there. Were you on birth control during your accutane course? Or no and your period still disappeared? And who are you seeing to get your period back?

hi there. I am in the exact same situation and am beyond frustrated of the situations I have had to go through to find out the side effects of accutane. I had no idea of infertility or other side effects that are now becoming more common as more people speak up. most likely because accutane did not disclose the alarming side effects, then the dermatologists did not know either. when you are given the accutane, you are forced to sign a disclosure agreeing to knowing this pill is toxic. striking the dermatologist wouldn't help any, nor would it do anything. at the time of all of our visits, they were just there to help us

Hi I took acutane when I was around 15 years old I am now 31 and came to find out a couple years ago that I was infertile and I've never took any other type of meds. Nor any other reason I shouldnt be able to have kids it does not run in family so I'm thinking it has to be from the acutane ..
