Accidentally Took Flexeril, Zanaflex, & Tramadol (Top voted first)

Updated

I am a 48 year old woman with fibromyalgia and psoriatic arthritis. At bedtime I take Zanaflex 4 MG, Tramadol 50 MG and several other meds that don’t concern me as they’re not things that would affect my heart or breathing. When I took my meds tonight I noticed that I forgot to take my noon meds so I took those as well, forgetting that I had put a 10 MG Flexeril in with them because I was having bad muscle spasms this morning. I know I shouldn’t have taken all of this together. I called poison control and he didn’t seem concerned. I have a high tolerance for pain meds and muscle relaxers anyway so I think I’m fine too, it just never hurts to ask.

You can read my response to the previous poster if you’re truly interested in how I ACCIDENTALLY ingested the two meds together.

I consider myself very lucky to have good insurance that covers my meds. I consider myself even luckier to have a great husband who works hard to provide that insurance for our family.

That said, you don’t know me or my situation. I am responsible with my meds. I use a pill organizer so I can remember which meds I’ve taken and when I haven taken them. This was a ONE TIME situation and I was having extreme pain and anxiety and really feeling the effects of fibromyalgia that day.

Accidents happen. I did the right thing and called poison control. If I had been concerned I was going to die I wouldn’t have taken the time to google and find this place and post. I would have gone to the ER. (And I’m not a doctor but to any future person reading this if you truly don’t know if you’re going to have a reaction, call poison control or your local ER and follow their instructions.)

Reading your insensitive response might stop someone who needs help from posting here. Maybe think before you are so judgmental next time.

I’m fine. I didn’t have any effects at all.

Yes, I was aware both are muscle relaxers. That’s the reason I was concerned about the potential for problems.

Yes, they were both prescribed to me.

Flexeril doesn’t really work well on a long term basis so after I had been on it for some time my doctor changed me to Zanaflex. The problem for me personally is that I was having trouble staying awake if I took Zanaflex in the morning. So I tried not to take either one in the daytime unless I really needed it.

The morning this happened I took a Flexeril very early, and I put one in the lunchtime slot in my med organizer as well. I wanted to remember to take one mid-day because I don’t normally, and I was in pretty significant pain that day. The Zanaflex was already in the nighttime spot, as I take it every night.

Most people with fibromyalgia understand “fibro fog”. I was having it badly that day. Thus the reason I put the extra pill in the organizer (I wanted to remember to take it) and also the reason I ultimately forgot to take my noon meds at all. (I’ve now set a reminder on my Apple Watch.)

I take medications for chronic pain, psoriatic arthritis, thyroid problems, high blood pressure, blood sugar issues (not officially diabetic, but borderline), depression, and a couple for various vitamin deficiencies. Yeah, I’m a mess. I have suffered from autoimmune problems for most of my life.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Hopefully finding out my info might help someone else sometime.

How are you doing? Did you experience any adverse effects?

The FDA warns that combining these medications could cause worsened side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, and dry mouth.

Zanaflex and Flexeril are both muscle relaxants, have they both been prescribed for you?

What other medications are you on?

WHY are you guys accidentally taking Rx drugs without actually mentally registering what pill you are ingesting? This is how people die. Be more careful. Having any drugs that relieve your pain or your mental anguish should be thought of as a lucky thing or a blessing. Many people can't afford Rx drugs and they make do with Ibuprofen or Tylenol.
