2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 48)

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.
kitkat, filled methadone at baydoun phar on 19 in s pinellas co before skyway. No Oxy 30, but they still had the methadone. However it was a dollar a pill for a normal 10 cent a pill script. anyway, hope that helps abit....least they treat you with dignity there. K
hey Dave what planet are you on?????? K
Miss karen, you shouldn't judge legitimate chronic pain sufferers. I too have been prescribed 30 mg roxycodone 5 x's a day for over 2 yrs. I've always taken med as prescribed, gladly submit to month drug test, and am a 50 y/o wife and mother. I couldn't fill my roxycodone prescription last month, and went 2 wks with no med. I had to be switched to opana. It makes me nauseous, and sedated. I have mri's showing herneated discs, among other things. I'm productive member of society, and people like you, have no clue. I pray you never have to live with chronic pain. How dare you pass judgement on people who are suffering. We don't need people like you in this forum. May God bless you with the compassion you seem to lack.
You're preaching to the choir, and I know a place that will have them at eight am tomorrow morning in Sarasota, but I'm not making the mad dash down there, I'm too embarrassed, because I've been using that pharmacy for awhile, I don't want them to think I'm desperate, and have a reputation as a drug seeker.
He won't take your script ahead of time and hold it either, I've seen people try to do that, it's first come first serve . And as far as I know, all shipments to Walgreens are still on hold due to DEA inspect, they've had such an increase in sales of oxycodones, they're having some type of audit....DEA must not take into considerations that most places stopped selling oxys, (target, CVS, public, sweetbay, etc. ), that more people have had to change to Walgreens to get their oxys., so of course there sales will increase!
Dave, the Walgreens I've been using in Sarasota have been saying they do NOT have and they do NOT know when they are going to receive. Are you in the Sarasota area? If you can suggest to me on where I can go that has in stock, I would greatly appreciate it.
Miss Karen, I have been on Oxycodone 30 mg for approximately 7 or more years; after exhausting EVERY other option beforehand. I did NOT even want to take that, but did so as a last resort, to have some relief. I have 2 small children and I worry about taking a "narcotic". Due to the fact that I have been on them (for what feels like forever), I do NOT get a "euphoric" feeling as people say. I remember that I did in the beginning, but those days are gone (for at least 5-6 yrs) I was previously prescribed 240 per month, then it was
decreased to 180; However, I still only try to take 3 per
day, 4 if absolutely necessary. I did NOT want to "switch" meds because I'm very concerned about what a new med will do to me. I need to always have my "witt's" about me because I take care of my children and I don't need to be "dopey" or have a med alter my state of mind in any way, and this doesn't. I've been
around other people who are on "different" meds and personally think they act/seem "altered" in some degree. I have been doing my "research", and I have an appt to go back yo my Dr to change my scripts. However, I am very apprehensive about doing so.
walgreens will fill roxys or any other narcotic but you must be a member and must have insurance
I know where you're coming from, I am on morphine now, and I feel like a slug....believe me, I love to wake up in the morning, and take my oxy 30, and have so much energy, and feel happy, but I CAN'T find them!! And the alternative is withdrawls which is the worst!!
That's why I am telling people on here, find another drug help yourself from going through withdrawals....why spend all your time looking for oxys....also, the dealers cannot get their hands on this stuff anymore either, theyre dealing dilaudids now....sooo the DEA is making a difference in getting these off the streets. Believe me, as soon as the shortage is over, I will ask my Dr. To RX them for me again, but in the meantime, I'm not going to suffer.
Miss Karen for some it is, either we are on so many other meds for our illnesses and the reactions many of the other drugs have are unbearable. Patches cause me to OD hydrocodone swells my throat shut, morphine cause such dehydration and depression I can't stand it, not to mention I would like to be without the pain but I also choose to function as a human being and not just lay around all doped up unable to take care of myself and in the hospital. So with all that in mind unfortunately, oxycodone is the only medication that I can tolerate. I have been on it for 12 years, It took close to a year to get used to oxycodone and not throw up all the time on it.
Personally I wish I could throw it all away and just move on to the next life but God doesn't see fit yet and my children and family do need a somewhat functioning me. One that is able to take the medication and continue through the routine trenches in the best possible shape.
Whats sad is this is ONLY hurting us honest pain patients - the people on the streets still have them. :-(
Obviously a lot of people enjoy being a victim, you can only allow yourself to be victimized, some people do want to know how they can help themselves, some don't....oxycodone is not the endall for pain mgmt., just saying....
Hey Karen....This is an OXYCODONE FORUM.....If you are gonna hassle people go somewhere else, ok....It isnt nice and it is very rude to "talk down" to folks who have been victimized as it is, ok? The things you are trying to relate are good advice, however you dont need to be condescending here.....alot of us need to blow off some steam as well. Thank you.
has anybody heard anything about anywhere yet? i have been out of my meds for 2 weeks now. getting ready to go hunting again today.
Don't feel bad, they have removed all my posts.
@disabled999....read my post, help yourself....you don't need to suffer ,
Karen.
@ mamacbass....i have been on oxycodone 30' s for almost 3 years, before that, on 15's for a year. It doesn't matter what for, I am in chronic pain...be an active patient, do your homework. If there's enough time to drive all day looking for oxys, there's time to research. Morphine and oxycodone come from the same opium poppy plant. It's not "experimenting" with a different class of drug. I've been on Fentanyl before, which I'd prefer to oxycodone, and It's not even in the opiate family. If you're getting treated by a good Dr. Why dont you trust him to change your meds.? I am just wondering why people are not willing to change medications, doesn't make sense, there's a shortage, It's not going to get any better, become proactive, get decent pain relief with other great meds. That are available. It's not voodoo, It's pain management...
@karen are u saying that switching meds is not something ppl should be concerned about? After 3 years of being on the same medication & receiving effective pain relief from it...yea I'm going to be a bit nervous that "experimenting" with some other meds might leave me in excruciating pain. Or give me side effects that are lets say- less than desirable. Pain medication, even when taken as prescribed & only for true pain still leaves you physically & psychologically addicted, so to me it makes perfect sense that folks might be leary of switching. It's assumptions such as yours that hurts how someone like me is looked at as a fairly young pain management patient. If you only knew what my body goes through daily.....
If everyone is I legit pain as they say, why are you not changing to an alternative opiate?? There's not a shortage of morphine IR , it doesn't give the euphoria like oxys, but the pain relief is good. I have cancer, and just changed over due to the shortage...If you wasting that much time looking for oxys, there's more to your problem then pain...
My doc and the local pharmacies have all confirmed that Oxycodone is being phased out permanently. The best advice is to switch to a different med - this is horrific for those of us who have been prescribed this med for so long, now to switch so abruptly...this should have been handled differently but everyone involved is only considering the junkies and the law-breakers in all of this...not the real patients with real pain...we are now being punished for the bad apples and I also blame our physicians...had they been more attentive to this "breaking news" and forewarned us, a plan to ease us off of this med would have been a lot safer and a lot less frustrating....as I waited for my Oxycontin script to be filled at Walgreens (which they have no issue filling, despite refusing to fill the Oxycodone because of my address), 5 customers came in with OC scripts and the Pharmacist gave them all the same speech - how their Doc has to also prescribe an ER med along with the short-acting, how they're no longer able to fill "these" scripts because they don't live within a 5 mile radius of the store...and they each told about how they've been to numerous pharmacies already as they pleaded for the Pharmacist's help...it was sad. An elderly man, a man in a wheelchair and a war vet who'd lost his arm were among them....smh...an awful shame the way this all happened.
Have u had any luck ??
Still nothing on my end...
I had the hardest time filling my methadone also. A lot of folks are temp switching over to methadone due to the "shortage". I NEVER had trouble with that one. Not in 5 years!!! I know that diversion is a huge issue, and I agree that steps should be taken to avoid having these deadly pain meds out of inexperienced kids hands, but someone sure has made a mess of things!!
