2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 45)

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.
I've had my roxycodone rx for 6 days now. Went out again today. The pharmacy the dr recommended said he'd have them in 2 wks, said I could leave script there and he wants to see mri's before he wojld consider taking new patient. I have mri's to show I have problems with lower back and neck. I think it's a violation of my privacy to have to present this to him. My Dr is a board certified anesthesiologist with specialty in pain mgt. I'm so over this bs. Last month I was switched to opana 10 mg. 150 for a month. The pharmacist would only dispense 90. It's a month tomorrow, and I have a few left. Been in a lot of pain, but I didn't want to got thru w/d. I stopped there first, and he was sketchy with me, said if I got the roxycodone switched, he might be able to fill only 90 again. These pharmacists are pissing me off playing dr and or God. It is like riding a roller coaster, bc I can't keep pain under control with 3 a day. They only last 4-6 hrs at best. I have insurance, same pain clinic for 2 yrs,1 pain med prescribed. Im also taking flexeril and lyrica for spasms and sciatic nerve pain. It's ridiculous. I'm tired, and have emailed my state representative and Senator. No response of course. God bless.
This is an interesting look at the pharmacists/tech perspective about lying about not having the meds in stock:

@disabled999...I'm so glad to hear that you found your oxys...there are so many rumors going around regarding which pharmacies carry the oxys, and which ones do not....I have been told by several people that CVS does not carry the drug at all anymore, but after reading your post, I see this is just another untruth....I wasn't even stopping to check at any CVS, believing the rumors. My next appt. Is on the 25 th. I'm thinking about going back on the oxys, I'll take one week to find them, if I'm unsuccessful, I'll go back on the morphine, which isn't nearly as strong...if I find any, I'll post it...did you try the place I told you about?
Seems to be the epidemic here in the great US of A... I say it's not right. Last year my doctor cut me off 9 different scripts from pain meds to asthmea, and red flagged me because in 2 1/2 yrs she had made 1 appt with me. It's who's fault that I was always over looked, my point here, this isnt fair as to many pharmacys are cutting off the availability of the meds if the doctor isnt perscribing, so we are at no win no win. I said a year ago Herion would be the up swing to what all the doctors are doing. Some of us (as me) cant take anti inflame and O.D. on Tylenol and asprin is bad gave me bleeding ulcer. Born with sever food allergies which had Migraine bad as a kid I was eatting hand fulls of tylenol or asprin, so I can only take Norco or the Oxycodone, now 50 plus I find myself hardly able to walk yet the doctor cuts me from even daily prednisone after 12 yrs, I almost died, and to to today I have not been given a new script, so I deal daily with this issue. The ER gives 2 yes 2 pain pills no shots and your lucky to walk with out one doctor calling you a junkie, so this world really sucks as far as this goes, so dont come to my town not if your in pain I feel for all of us in any type of pain that includes the child that may need a ritalin or a codeine cough syrup you will NEVER get it here.... So Now Herion on the rise... Smart these officals huh.... good luck mail away it's the best in my eyes but send to a place an id is needed to be left as everyone doin mail away is getting ripped off.. Happyier days....
The mail order pharmacy with my insurance as well as a lot of others either 1. Don't fill narcotics in large quantitys or 2. Your script has to be for a 3 month supply. It is a Loose Loose situation!!! This state Sucks!!! I'm ready to move back to NY and get the correct quality of care then what these "Pain Drs" are giving me...and also be able to get my RX's filled every month without a hassle or having to pay out of my ass for them and then fighting with my ins to get reimbursed. It is really not fair to us legit pain pts.
There are no legit mail away pharmacies unless your using one of the ones associated with a major health insurance company. I'm going to call some on Monday and see if I get say Blue Cross cheapest plan for 27 dollars a month that I can then use their mail order pharmacy even if my doctor isn't in their group, I could care less about the medication being covered if I can just get it filled.
I'm a T ampa resident looking for a pharm to fill 120 30mg. roxys. I"ve heard of phamacies that you can ship your script to and have it returned within a few days, but I don't know how to filter the bad pharms from the good or how to ngon about this? Any idea or persons whom have used this as a solutio?
Hometown pharmacies are always your best bet. Big box/chains are on the run from the DEA. If my pharmacy does not have them, they will order and have them for me the next day. I recently moved from FL to GA and have found that the small 'family' owned pharmacies are not only willing to help you out more, but are also pleasant with you when you do business with them.
Hi Lisa.....sorry you, too, have to be joining this mess.....dont have any suggestions for you, just read the posts slowly and try to put together a game plan....the advice from disabled999, panicpain, mike, and howie have been helpful to me, even if I have been without the oxy30 for 4 weeks, at (i still have methadone-thank god)least I do not have to suffer this alone ,also, there is a Face Book page for Donna Ratliff, (i finally found it) and message her and sign the petitions and all . Just put in donna ratliff, she has a blonde pony tail and glasses and it says her groups are pain affiliated stuff.....it took me a week to find her but she is there and she is organizing a trip to Talahassee.....which instead of rolling into a fetal position and allowing these pharmacies to demean us, at least it is proactive! Good Luck K
yeah thay did same thing to my mom but my friends have no problem filling it at walgreens!!
I myself am A chronic pain pt. I am 31 yrs old and have been on pain meds for the past 9 years..not by choice..but to "function" I am scheduled next month for back surgery hoping it will give me some kind of relief. I was reluctant to switch my meds as I have been on them for 9 yrs. I Finally found out about 6 years ago which meds actually Helped me with them pain enough to get by and raise my kids without being any more miserable than I already am from suffering in pain. Well I went ahead and switched my meds to methadone from Roxys back in October...and they work Great!!!! I suffer from multiple fractured/herniated/scoliosis/osteomyleitis/osteoarthritis/depression/anxiety/Obsessive compulsive disorder and nerve damage in my entire right side. Needless to say I take lots of meds and it was all trial and error in the very beginning trying to find what was right for me. I finally like I said got my pain under control with lots of different meds including methadone 10mg #180 and roxys 30mg
#180 for breakthrough pain. It has been 23 days since my last visit to the Drs and still have had NO luck getting
them filled. So in return I suffer...leaving my 2yr old to play by herself because Mommy is in too much pain to move. I have filed for disability and it is in appeals now. I never thought in a million years it would come down to this. I am allergic to Lots of meds as I learned from trial and error. I went to a pharmacy today and they wanted to charge me 10 bux a pill. $1800 for a script of 180 roxys. YEAH RIGHT!!!! And I HAVE ins..but of course they wont take it and I have to pay out of pocket. What is 1 to do??? Suffer??? Miss out on my kids childhood because I cant take my baby for walks..or bike rides..or even sit in the car to long without everything gong numb with pins and needles or just in lots of pain to the point I cant get comfortable. My pain Dr just put me on Zoloft last week because I spoke to him about being so short tempered to everyone..even my kids, fiancee and Father who is dying of Cancer..All because I am miserable in pain and cant get mt rx filled ANYWHERE..So it is not Only me suffering..Myu family is too. Just NOT fair. Well anyway to get to the point..methadone Does indeed work great for pain..by me myself also needs something for breakthrough..which the roxys worked great for. Now I go back to my DR this upcoming Wednesday breaking my pills into pieces to make them last until then because I would Never leave myself without anything. I would really be useless and dead to the world. Lets see what happens Wed.. I am also allergic to any form of morphine so that is not a choice for me. Which leaves me with what to take?? Help anyone that has any advice I would greatly appreciate it..Lisa
sorry y'all didnt mean to leave out the pharmacy's name.....thats Walmart on 19 in Pinellas Park. The super one.....K good luck
Hi PanicPain,Disabled, Howie, Mike, and anyone I missed.....Thank you, Howie for the info about Methadone and Oxycodone 30. I also have been on both for 4 years, same way....methadone for long acting, and oxy for BTP. The info I was given was straight out of a pharmacists mouth....(Wagreens-ie"satans spawn" She said she would never fill those 2 together b'cause the methadone blocks the receptors......Ill research that carefully, and apologize for misinformation, I didnt think that was right, but criminy she went to school for 6 years.....I USED to trust pharmacists, but NO MORE!....disabled....you are on the mark.....thats exactly what I have been trying to do, to no avail, but still.....it is better than feeling like Im doing something wrong, and it is nice to say hi to somebody's name....at least the pharmacist is kind now!(sorta)Panic- DONT YOU DARE GIVE UP! Is is a basic HUMAN right to choose not to be in excruciating pain! What kind of life is that? I actually got to the point where I didnt even notice that I had taken meds.....no drugged up feeling...clear mind but man-o-man I certainly feel it when I have none.Has anyone tried to get script split into 15's?and get 2 scripts for 2 weeks? I also go to Dr on Monday and I hate hate hate even contemplating a med change. Dilaudid makes me vomit, never tried MS-IR, and the contin's make me a zombie. Any suggestions, anyone? Thanks for sharing on here everyone .....it helps alot not to feel alone...and to at least be somewhat pro-active in this nightmare. Has anyone heard of any resolution to this? The pharmacist Ive been getting to know on 19 in Pinellas Park told me today thatwhen switching to another med, (if thats what I am forced to do) that they are running out of dilaudid and some of the others as well. I can NO WAY afford oxy-contin@ 900.00 for a month, so the tip on MS-IR was very helpful. She also told me they get a delivery every day, but that the oxy-30's have only been hit and miss. She also said that they run out the same day they come in,and to just check every day, so spot on....I have been out since June 11, and I feel like I have been beaten to death in my sleep every day when I wake up.....have lost 10 pounds and it just gets worse every day..Thanks all of you and dont give up.............K
i WENT nd got my script changed to the 8mg dilaudid's, same problem. does ayone know f even a mom and pop place that has them? im in cimplete agony i cant take this anymore.
The only advice I can give is this.....
About a year ago I had to switch doctors, because the Dr I used for the past 6 yrs did NOT take Ins., so the DEA and Pharms feel like "those" doctors are only "pill writers", and are "red-flagged" in the pharmacies. I did have Ins., but Dr didn't take, so I had to pay cash. I moved from east coast to west and had to switch anyways, so I made sure that my new Dr took Ins. Since then, I lost my Ins., cause my husbands finances have decreased dramatically. Although I was faithfully using CVS for yrs, I went to a Walgreens instead, which happened to have 4-5 months in a row. Then, when I went to fill the next time, Walgreens was out so I went to CVS. Since I was using Walgreens for the previous 4-5 mths, CVS did NOT want to fill me. ?!?! I explained that I had previously used CVS to fill for about 6 yrs and had only "switched" to Walgreens for convenience, but wanted to return to CVS. I was able to fill (after 10 days and lots of aggregation, including involving the District Regional Mgr). However, that was the ONLY time that the Pharmacist said he had them. For the last 3 mths it's been "hit or miss" or "1st come 1st serve", etc. What I did that I thought would help, was to go on the computer and and "switch" ALL my scripts to CVS online, and my whole families scripts,
as well. I created "username/password", and hit the link to "Manage" my Account. Although my husband had to get up every morning for over a week to do the "hunt" we're all familiar with, he finally found a CVS that had them. Absurdly enough, just when he was about to give up ( after his 3 hr search), and I had just called my Dr to confirm I was indeed coming in to have my meds
changed, he stopped by 1 last CVS on way home and he found. After searching around, doing "research", reading Blogs, and Forums, I've come to the conclusion of this: I strongly believe that the "radius" has EVERYTHING to do with whether you get them or not. I really do think that the Pharmacist(s) will ONLY fill scripts for people who live within a "5 mile radius", AND see a Dr that DOES take Insurance, (even if YOU don't have it). Also, you need to make "friends" with the Pharmacist. JUST go there every day. NO where else. If they see that you are NOT going to give up, I think that they will "work you in" as a "regular".... Make sure you point out that THEY are the CLOSEST Pharmacy to where you live and NEED THEIR HELP. STOP GOING FROM PLACE TO PLACE and just "faithfully" go to ONE Pharmacy. Explain WHY you're on them. How LONG you've been on them, etc. Instead of just being another person/"junkie" (as the way they sometimes look at you or make you feel), and become a REAL person to them. This is just my advice. Who knows. After being out of my meds for over a week, and going through all that BS, with searching, writing letters, making phone calls, desperately seeking help/advice.... Maybe I just got "lucky"; and I'll be back in same boat next month.... But, I feel for ALL of you and I know what you're going through. I do know of 2 mom and pop places that did have them on Wed, BUT they would NOT fill for me because I had never been there before. Again, the BEST chance anyone has to be successful (which is my "opinion", ONLY), is to be a "constant/familiar" presence in ONE Pharmacy and show them LOYALTY by letting them know you are DEPENDING on THEM to somewhat being your "savior"..... Because, let's face it, The "Pharmacist" himself, IS the ONLY way you have half a chance in getting your medicine. Sick, but true.
Good Luck to everyone. God Bless ALL
I was a Walgreens customer for almost 2 yrs. I have the computer print out to show that I filled there every month. I also filled @ cvs prior to that. Still both turned me away. My Dr only works1 day a wk so now, I'll have to wait to switch it to morphine till next wk. He offered it to me, but I was scared of taking that. I have 18 pills left of opana and will wean myself down. I can't play this sick bs anymore. I'd almost rather suffer in pain than be going thru this every month. This cycle is so twisted, I'm tired very tired. Didn't go out this a.m. looking. For what, to be told no for the 100th time? I'm done fighting.
Like many of you I've been going to same Walgreens for years, used to take 3 days to fill then a few months ago my pharmacist said it would take 7 to 10 days and then I walked in last month and she says i can no longer give you a timeline but she took my script to hold and fill as she always has even tho any Walgreens Pharmacist wil tel you its against their policy to hold a script. Well she wasn't lying, its been 15 business days so far and stil no email or text as in the past saying its ready. There were two previous occasions where it took 12 business days but this is insane. She would not have taken my script as usual if there was no chance it would ever get filled so I just have to wait but I'm going to be a month behind and really not confident in getting them filled again if this does go through. My doctor offers to change my meds but I would get insurance and use Medco, only thing is will Medco take me or say an insurance companies mailorder even if my doctor doesn't take insurance? What I mean is say I join Humana or any insurance compnay and then have my script sent to them, will they fill it and mail it if I pay for it even tho my Doctor isn't in their network?
TO PANICPAIN, its funny u mentioned about heroin being on rise bcus I predicted that a few months ago. As we have all said numerous times on here, the junkies and people getting pills a illegally will always find a way to get their stuff a illegally & it's the legitimate to people this crap affects. So anyways, all this has done has made it so people that obtain pills illegally & that are looking to get high are gonna start getting heroin instead.....
GREAT JOB DEA! YOU'VE SCREWED OVER LEGITIMATE PEOPLE & ARE IN PROCESS OF BRING HEROIN BACK TO MAIN STREAM POPULARITY & ABUSE.
Marinevet, I apologize. I wasn't referring to when I stated, "about the arguing". Sorry for confusion.
To INAGONY. Unfortunately u r co disingenuous Methadone with suboxone. Suboxone blocks the opiate receptors in the brain & will throw u onto an agonizing ferocious if u take it & aren't already going thru detox. Also, Methadone isn't an alternative for oxycodone 30's bcus Methadone is long acting & 30's are immediate release for "breakthrough pain". I've been on Methadone for 8 years along with oxy 30's for breakthrough. Just trying to correct some more misinformation. Also, all of what I just wrote can be confirmed by researching it. Although I'm 1000% confident of my info. As a matter of fact, there are programs in some of the cities w/highest heroin abuse where they are issuing Suboxone for junkies to keep on hand incase someone is od'ing so they can inject the Suboxone & almost immediately takes them from overdose & dying to awake & coherent. Although on the special I watched, some of them were pissed bcus they were saying, "I was ok, I wasn't od'ing". Meanwhile they really where.
