2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 44)

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.

@panicnpain , you are exactly right what you are saying...it took me over a week to find kadian, I actually found them at Walgreen's. I got the telephone book, and called about 25 pharmacies. I stopped in a Walgreen's near my home, they NEVER have anything, but I was there to buy some toothpaste, and just for the heck of it, showed my RX to the pharmacist, and she said, sure, I have it....I just stared at her in shock, I wasn't sure I heard right...only co$t me $$132.00, with my bluecross. This is so messed up, when I was paying $10.00 apiece for 150 roxys, and 60 ms contin. I can't do this again next month. I'm at my wits end.

I have MRI's and had 1 small pharmacy tell me he would fill roxycodone in 2 wks after I showed him MRI's. I was supposed to wait 2 more wks when I was already a week overdue? I refused to be at this idiots mercy. He wanted to hold script too. Wtf. These pharmacists are stepping over the line. All he had to do was go on the e- forcse website, and it would've shown him I get 1 narcotic pain med. I feel like a damn criminal. Sick of it.

No CVS or Walgreens will fill here in SWFL. I was walgreens customer for close to 2 years and CVS before that. Been back to 10 different CVS's, claims they don't carry narcotics anymore. Same with Walgreens. You better stick with the CVS you're getting rx filled at. I'm at the mercy of a small pharmacy who only had morphine in stock. This is crazy! Morphine is making me sick and very little pain relief. It's so messed up how these chains abandoned long term customers. They don't care. Dr doesn't care either, as long as they get their copay, they don't give a rats ass if you can fill it or not. They're still making $, and we're left to suffer at the hands of these chains who want nothing to do with schedule II drugs.

For over a year I used Caremark to fill my prescription by mail but about three months ago they refused to fill it anymore unless I sent them a copy of my MRI. The pharmacy that they used was in South Florida and apparently it's a new policy of theirs now. I don't understand the policy but I reallly don't think it's any of their business. I now go locally to CVS and they will fill it as long as it is printed on a full sheet (8 1/2 x 11) security prescription paper. Hope this helps!

Thanks miss karen, I will look it up and am sure I can find out info. I wouldn't use that pharmacy if he was the last one on earth. It's a violation of my privacy and probably hippa law. I looked it up the other night, and different websites say a pharmacist has the right to call Dr for diagnosis. Thanks God bless

The site I spoke of has much info on this problem. Friend request previous mentioned personand join the fight for our rights. She will gladly accept friend requests. Im not speaking of you miss karen, but if people aren't going to conduct themselves properly, we wont be heard. We have a voice, and we will be heard.

Hi miss karen, I didn't go back to that pharmacy. Yesterday, when I went to Drs office to turn in my roxycodone rx. I told them that pharmacy wanted an mri. She told me they would've probably filled it if I gave it to them. I said no, he wanted MRI and wanted to hold script for 2 wks, she didn't say anything. I switched to morphine too, and it's awful. I'm in pain, and very tired. Last night, I was so tired, but it was the strangest sleep ever. I felt ony half asleep. If you you live in FL, I suggest you join us on FB for "Fight for FL pain care action network." Look up Ratliffe, Donna. There's so much info on there that explains all of this. We need as many people as we can, this woman is fighting for cpp. God Bless

I haven't been back to my Dr. Yet, disabled999, another week, I'll be looking for roxys once again, because the morphine really doesn't work as well for me. I can hardly bend my knees to walk when I get out of bed...ill let you know what happens, and panic, I this is just crazy having to be at the mercy of some idiot pharmacist....he is really working outside his area of practice, it doesn't sound legal what he's making you do!!! But what the DEA is putting us through trying to get roxys off the street, seems illegal to me also. It's bad enough insurances are telling Dr.s how to practice, but now the government, and apparently pharmacists are doing the same. If this med. Is being held up by the government, this is a crime! They're working for us, and I want to be able to purchase my meds. My Dr. Prescribed, without questions, or scrutiny, from ANYONE! I thought this was still a country run by the people!!

Nick and Lori, thank you both for your posts. Every post can educate and even save a life. My prayers are with all of you. Lori, that would be great if you could post the name of the book. The xanax does nothing for me after so many years. I guess it helps better than if I had nothing. I've gotten the panic attacks down a lot, as soon as I get the beginnings of one, I go outside,take a walk and that helps a lot. I've been embarrassed 3 times in the last 20 yrs having to call 911 and be taken by ambulance to the hospital. The looks I got, were so humiliating. No one can understand a panic attack unless it's been experienced. Blessings

hello, i just read the post, really!!! Im not on methadone but was born with Chronic panic disorder been on benzos since i was 13 cuz nuthin else works for me, tho i dont take the methadone i do Norco, i have been on for gosh long long time im 52 n i cant take anything else for pain besides tylenol which shouldnt i had an O.D. reaction when i was 40 i took alot cuz severe pain n passed out. I was then put on norcos, i take 6 a day does this article you read have to do with as well... great share. I had this really great self help book for panic it helped me for alot of yrs till i think brain n age set in and no more fight for now but i have been using again the knoweledge i think was called I have panic disorder, help for me and family members. It was a small paper book i got at physcs office n i found later at the libary. Maybe the tools can help you as well. I will look for the real name...(oh i started Kereoke in public) this was a great help, tho the first time i almost past out i did win the competition. I later took 3rd all round and tho i dont feel i sing this well i over come a fear i never thought i could... just sayin....Lori

For anyone who is gonna switch to Methadone! You need to do the research, cuz not only is the 1 person correct bout xanax and dones are deadly combo, cuz I have know people when I was a teenager die from this mix! I am 36 so long time ago! But I have been put on this cocktail of Methadone, Roxy, and xanax bars! I had no idea I was a severe car wreck where my bf driver passed away! And I was in coma but, I lived but with fractured vertabre in Neck and broken ribs and wrist bla,blah! My point is a very well respected Dr, where I live was giving me a ton of pills 40mg. wafer methadone 6 a day, 280 30mg. roxy's, and 120 2 mg. xanax! Which is rediculous now that I know more! But, after my surgeries and getting to where I could get around. I started lowering everything on my own, well today I am still in pain but I have dropped down to 4-10mg. dones and 6 Roxy 30 a day! Which its good I have the methadone since I cant get roxies! My point of this dragged on story is I tried to get off the methadone, but it is 30 times worse then heroin to kick it says on the internet! I have stopped taking roxy at 1 point and it was horrible for 2 weeks, but when I have tried with Methadone it was 100 times worse then the Roxy withdrawl! Where I quit trying after 9 days I did not sllep 1 hour the whole time I started seeing things and it was just crazy! So I would not suggest anyone go towards methadone if they do switch, methadone gets in your bone marrow, it is basicaly synthetic Heroin! Just thought I would throw that info. at you! God Bless all of you! I was just in a car accident 6 weeks ago when taking my son to school and an f-350 did an illegal u-turn and cut in my lane I was able to avoid the truck and then I noticed he was pulling a 20ft. trailer and we smacked into it going 45mph. My son was fine thank god just bad whiplash! But, I am in tons of pain and I cant even get a neurologist in my town in Naples to see me cause they dont want to take car accident insurance! So I am still looking for 1! Well thats my 2 cents

Switched my rx to morphine. Able to fill that no problem. There's really something very wrong with the system when you're able to get morphine but can't get roxycodone filled. I'm nervous about this med. At least the pharmacy took me as a new patient and said no problem coming back. God Bless

Thanks inagony, I just read your post about methadone. I have a severe panic disorder, and have been on benzos (xanax) for over 10 yrs. Methadone and xanax are a deadly combination. I never knew that until I researched methadone more. I appreciate everyone's input, I only wish we were interacting about something good instead if this nightmare. God bless

Yes, CVS DOES FILL. However, they can and will abuse their power and tell u whether they "feel comfortable" with it; which is complete BS. Let me know how it goes.

Marinevet, you got it! It's in N.P. FL. ! If I show him the mri's, do u think he'd fill it for me? I'd do it to get the roxycodone. I've been so sick from the opana and morphine scares me! Your reply is so appreciated! Thank you

Panicpain, the pharmacy wouldn't happen to be in north port, fl.would it? I went to one there as a new customer and they required an mri as well. Was able to provide the info they wanted and got my scripts filled, but aren't they in violation of hippa and privacy information act. Anyone run into this problem? I'm not sure, but I believe it's against the considering they ARE NOT DOCTORS.

Believe me Miss Karen, I've been to every pharmacy in my area. Forget the chains, I gave up on those. This was a small mom and pop chain. He said that's his way of screening patients. He can kiss my a**, bc I'm not going to leave script there and show him mri's. I feel the same way, none of his business. He had them, or how would he know he'd have them in 2 wks? Maybe he has a crystal ball in the back. The pharmacy who filled my opana last month told me to call tomorrow and he'd let me know if he had them. I said you filled for me last month but only gave me 90 out of the 150. Yes, he will do the same tomorrow... if he has them... another pharmacist playing Dr with me. Now, I have 2 choices, get the opana again, or another pharmacy at least told me he has morphine. So those are my choices. Take away the roxycodone and morphine is my option. DEA.. real good work you're doing. I'm so scared of morphine, and 3 opanas a day leaves me in a lot of pain. What the hell should I do?? I'm going to switch script in the a.m. any suggestions would.be so appreciated. God Bless and thank you Miss Karen

There must be somewhere you can report this pharmacist, he is NOT trained as a Doctor!! I would go elsewhere, this cannot be the only pharmacy in your area...and I wouldn't leave my script with any pharmacy...keep trying, I'll be looking again in a couple weeks, I'll be damned if I'm telling anyone why I need my meds,, they can call my Dr.!!

Anyone have any luck in Miami ? Got my script today, and will go on my search starting in the AM, I went by three walgreens so far today.. nada same story.. ahhh, these are for oxy's.

Last month I could not fill my script b4 my vacation to Italy. So, in hope, I took it with me, and surprisingly I had no problem getting it from the Italian pharmacy from a script from a dr so far away... crazy!!

so please help if you can.. I can deal with mom and pops too.. I'll have the insurance still cover it! Get this before my vacation I went to my mail-order pharmacy with my script, to speed up the process, they refused to fill it and put a note on my account not to fill any Controlled meds!!! I appealed the decision but have not heard anything back yet....
