2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 44)

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.

there is no shortage. I am friends with a mom/pop ownerin florida. theres plenty and if you get on pharmacy list of approved patients and they will take you, your good. if the pharmacy dont wanna take you they wont.
They have the meds or order them but they have to file paperwork now and its a pain in there ass and there lazy and so nothing gets done to help new patients. They dont care and dont have to fill the paperwork out.
It all depends on the day the pharmaicist is having. If he/she got lucky the night before he/she may be in a good mood and help you or tell you tokik rocks. it sux but reality

I found this blog trying to find a cerified pain management physician .My son has taken a job with the Hillsborough County. One he is so proud of getting. My other son is moving to Tampa with his brother when he completes a grant job through the University of KY, he is a wildlife biologist. I have been with a pain management doctor, that is claimed to be the best in the state of KY by my and other neurosurgeions, for 12 years. I have had Anterior fusion and a posterior fusion with grafts at C5 - C7. I also have DDD in C2 - C5 flattening the thecal sac. also canal stenois C7 - T1, L2 - L3, L4 - L5, all with disc bulges and or protrusions. I also have herniated lumbosacral disc, cervical facet diseasse, myofascial pain, facet disease cervial. They are wanting me to move down when my older son comes if not sooner. I have been on Oxycotin 20mg, and Oxycodone 30mg for break through pain for several years. I also have trigger point injections. I have has so many epidurals they don't last 2 weeks so my doctor discontinued them. Will I be able to find a Doctor, and I have always gotten my meds at Walgreens. I have been reading these blogs for days and to tell you the truth they are scaring me badly. So If I move down there I will not find a doctor or be able to get my meds filled. I am disabled and have insurance. Someone plz tell me this will not happen I want to beable to live with my sons.

@ needadvice, I'd be very skeptical about moving here to Fl. I'm someone with good insurance, same pain mgt Dr for over 2 yrs, and was with Walgreens until last may. Have done everything by the book, and haven't been able to fill roxycodone since last may. Im now on opana. The all pharmacy I use told me no roxycodone prescriptions , won't fill it. Pain mgt even took pic to put in chart. I have a family member up north in chronic pain and they too are now getting the " I'm not comfortable filling this" line of garbage. The state of Florida has implemented new rules, and yet they are still putting legit cpp in agony. Please, fo your research. My life has changed drastically bc I can't fill the one med that gave me a good quality of life. I'm now a walking zombie bc of this nightmare. Good luck and God bless

us taxpayers need to do something, today I took my methadone prescription for 180 ummm, we don't have that in stock.... but they fill a prescription for another lady after me. I'm not some junky bum I'm a retired school teacher. I had a prescription for oxy as well
for only 120 tabletS I am doing everything by the book this is just getting preposterous.... when will it end when I'm dead? I don't call myself in attic.... but I am physically dependent on this medication opioid dependency is a disease just like diabetes.... my bring no longer makes endorphins, I don't know and I'm lost for words

I would like to thank you for answering my blog. I like you have done everything by the book. Things are changeing in KY to. My pain doc i was with for 12 yrs. he up and moves to IND. he had an office there and closed the one in KY. I had heard in FL you could get anything. That all the druggies were going down there and getting a boat load. I will be all alone in KY when my boys move, I have no other family. I am kinda scared growing old alone. I don't know what to do. Like you I have to have my meds to even get up. They are wanting to do surgery on me on my lower back but I told them as long as I can walk no way. But, now that is getting harder. I do get my meds filled every month with no problems at all. I don't know what to do. I cant tell the good pain docs from the pill mill ones when I look for one down there. After reading these blogs all I have done is cry. I don't think my doc will go for me flying home every month. I feel so sorry for you all down there. And now I can't be with my family because of this. Again thank you and my God be with you all. I will keep u in my prayers.

@needadvise...what part of FL were you thinking of moving to? There are some legit Drs down here where U can still gets meds from. I have been in Pain Mgt for about 10yrs now. I was really scared to move here 3yrs ago from NY. It is in No way the same quality of care..BUT...I feel I have absorbed all other options other than surgery already with all the injections and everything else. I too need my meds to get out of bed...am Always extremly tired..but..its life!

@need advice, so sorry you're so upset. It's so wrong. This state with Drs over prescribing, and pill seekers. The stated implemented a site where dr and pharmacist can check to make sure ppl.aren't dr shopping. It's never enough it seems. I have found a small pharmacys who's been filling my opana for 5 months now. The thing I was upset about was when I was told to not bring oxycodone or hydromorpbone prescription, they won't fill those. Still haven't figured out if it's bc they're the most widely abused or the fact that the opana is 4 times the price of the roxycodone. I just got done vomiting again, bc the opana makes me nauseous. My Dr will write the rx for roxycodone, but I know I won't be able to fill them. After 2 years with Walgreens, they throw the rx for roxycodone in my face last may and tell me " good luck with that?" It's a basic human right to be able to have some pain control. It's a disgrace, but I'll bet the dealers can still get them. I hope ypu cam get referral and come and be with your family. I pray for you, and wish you the best. Take care and maybe you can talk to the Walgreens there in KY and they can advice you. I don't know, I was a Walgreens customer for 20+ yrs, and after how they treated me, I wouldn't use them if they were the last pharmacy on earth. God bless and take care.

good morning,

so I decide to launch a complaint against a couple Walgreens pharmacyS .... I am told by the 800 Walgreens that in Florida the DEA has got involved and told pharmacist especially in Walgreens not to stock or fill c2 meds and they are putting their license on the line if they do..... the 1 800 Walgreens admitted that the pharmacist are lying to customers to gently break it to them did they do not want to feel medications for them I'm sorry but this is totally appalling to me.

someone please answer my question, can we as legitimate pain patient not do anything about this ....
I am sure the Attorney General of Florida Pam Bondi her father recently passed away god bless his soul did not have a problem getting his pain medication.

I don't know what part of Tampa yet. He is staying with some friends until he gets him a place. How can you tell the real ones from those pill pusher mills. I want a Doctor that I know will take care of my condition. I have enough metal in my spine now I dont want some quack tallking me into some more. They are wanting to do surgery on my lower lumbar now but I won't give in. Now that the boys are moving I know I cant. There will be no one for me afterwards. Now with this going on down there I just don't know what to do. I have told them about this blog and they just say I am blowing this thing up. It couldn't be that bad. I wish they would take the time to look at it.. You know up here we have no pill mills we have Doctors and most are good. Everyone gets their meds. every month. Some have cut back but most are getting what they always get. If you know of any good Docs please let me know. and thank you for answering my blog and I will pray for you all and God bless

Thank you so much for your prayers. I have thought about going to my Walgreens and ask them but I bet they won't tell me a thing. They are good to me and treat me as a person not a druggie. I can get a referral from my docs up here. I tried the Opana and it did the same thing to me. it made me so sick. I have tried the fentynel patches too they make me sick. My body is so funny i can't hardly take anything that doesn't make me sick. My blood presssure pills made me sick, I tried 3 kinds of them. If I get down there they won't fill my script there is not much I can take. It is time for all of you to get up and fight back. even an animal suffering gets to be put out of their pain. and if not it is abuse and its on the news. Instead of writting in this blog write every paper, news channels, congressman, state reps. Anyone that would listen. if you don't they will just keep going on this way. Ban together fight it is your rights. No one should have to suffer. in my prayers God bless

@needadvice I also am in the Tampa area. TRUST me...U can tell the mills from the Real Drs out here. And a FYI for your sons..."IT IS THAT BAD" If U don't mind me asking...what meds are U on now?? And quantity?? And when U say U want a Dr to take care of U...are U meaning injections?? Or just medication wise?? I know a few Drs down here..some are by the books...injections..referrals...and others that U WILL get your scripts fron. I just saw a "fill in" Dr cause my Dr was away for Xmas..and I'm considering changing to his prectice because after over a year of High Blood pressure...I FINALLY got put on blood pressure meds..and have been complaining of severe joint pain..fatigue...chronic ear infections. Well..he referred me to a rhuematologist where I just got diagnosed with Lupus and Rhuematoid Arthritis. I guess we know know what ELSE is wrong with me :( Please get back to me. I was told the very same thing today and then when I wen to another walgreens she informed me that the previous pharmacist basically banned me from getting my 15mg oxys from ALL walgreens because according to her I hadnt had an RX filled in over 2 years. The reason why I didnt have any during that time was because I was so tired of going on pharmacy hunts every month, hitting 20-30 a day that I went to a methadone clinic for the IMMENSE PAIN i was in EVERY Day. So according to another pharmacy, since its been so long since I had an RX filled the pharmasict didnt feel comfortable filling it. I asked him what would happen if I was a new patient and this was my first script? He said that no doctor should start someone out with 15s..that he shouldve just gave me perc 5s and then a few months later as the meds get stronger THEN he will fill the 15's. Its all one big scam and power trip on the pharmacists part.

I think we could and should be able to do something! I went to TWO walgreens today who had them in stock and wouldnt fill them for me because they didnt " feel comfortable" because I didnt pass the DEAs " good faith" test because its been since October 2011 since I had an oxy script. Its just ridiculous!!!!

I want a real dr. I take trigger point injections, I have had so many epidurals they don't last long enough now. They won't give them to me anymore. The meds I am on are oxycotin 20mg. 2 x a day, and onycodone 30mg 3 x aday for break through pain. I need a pain management dr and a neurologist for my spine. I go at the end of the week for a MRI on my lower lumbar i have 3 herniated disc. He wants to do surgery on me and I won't do it yet. I had 2 surgeries on my cervical area and they failed. Now that is what has caused me so much pain. I am worse off than I was before. He told me that it would be afraid it wouldn't help, but the vertebrae was lying against my spinal cord and he said I could sneeze or move just a certian way and it would sever my cord. so I had to have it. I have a titanium cage and rods in my neck with grafts. My lower lumbar causes pain all the time and at times it causes sciatica until I can't walk. I have prolapsed disc in the middle of my spine. So see i need a spine doc with a pain specialist. I thank you for your help but i don't know when he will get a place yet. he is staying with some friends. It will be several months before I can move. I will not be coming until my other son finishes his job. It will be in the summer I would say. But, I really do thank you for your help. my prayers are with you and God bless.

@needadvice I also have had SOOOOO many injections..I actually started loosing my hair from the steroids and the anastheia. I know of a few GREAT drs out here in the Tampa area. I know we cant give names or email address on here so we will have to find another way to communicate. If anyone on here knows of any other way we can communicate..pls LMK as I would Love to help anyone I could. I know what its like to move and be scared to death about not having a Good Dr. Thank you all for you help in advance..Lisa

I am 65 and live in Palm Beach County,FL with a broken back pieced together with metal rods. I have been taking oxycodone 30mg for 5 years to help with the breakthrough
pain and now I suffer every day beyond endurance with excruciating pain because I cannot find anywhere to fill my prescription.Walgreens was filling it but no longer. It is a disgrace that our pets must be treated humanely while we are left to suffer for what reason?
Since when do we deliberately decide to leave people in horrendous pain?
Any helpful info would be greatly appreciated.

I'd love to get some info from you if possible. After 18 yrs on the East Coast, my family has relocated to the West coast about 18 myths ago. I've been have trouble finding repreable Doctors, as we'll as filling scripts.

This is MY STORY almost EXACTLY. WALGREEN's has Blacklisted me from filling ANY CONTROLLED scripts for this very reason. I cannot get them filled at ANY WALGREENS because of this one stuck up pharmacist who thinks she is god.
Apparently it doesn't matter that WAlgreens used to be my "go-to" pharmacy 1 year ago for all my Oxy and Controlled scripts. I was a patient there for 3 years without a glitch. THen I lost my insurance, went to a methadone clinic, got my insurance back now, back to the pain doc- back to Walgreens..... Errrrrrrr-SCRRREEChhhhhh!! Not back to Walgreens. Now they are WAL-NAZI's.
I did find a mom-n-pop that will fill, but they say they don't have in stock and to keep checking in. Many other pharmacies say the same thing. No one has now and Pharmacist say they do not know why? This sucks and is only going to get worse.

I was informed by my PM DR, they're getting cracked down on like never before. The dea has been raiding pharmacies around SWFL. Thankfully, I've stuck with 1 small pharmacy, and he's doing everything he can to help me. I took in prescriptions today, said he'd have them in 2 days. Thank God for this man who can see I'm in pain. Every month, I'm a wreck if I'll be able to fill it. My advice is stay away from the big pharmacies, bc they don't care. Try to find a small pharmacy and deal with them for all your medical needs. While @ PM, a older lady dressed well ca,me into clinic and told them she had been to over 30 pharmacies, and no one will fill her meds. I heard her say they're just telling me " they don't carry those anymore". It's so sad a woman of her age and apparent disability can't fill meds. The whole situation is reprehensible. I pray for those who are having so much trouble. Those that are able to fill, count your blessings
