2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 33)

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.

Nope. your not getting worked up for nothing. i felt the same as you with "not me i wont have a problem" and june 28th...PROBLEM and for past 3 months suffering thanx to punkl junkies and dea shutting down and making doctors scared.
emergency rooms will kick you out with some tylenol and flexiril-for the detox.
ide be scared cause if it doesnt happen this month to you it probably will happen sooner rather than later unfortunatly. im still trying to get my roxies back 3 months later...no dr will write em and ive been on them since 2000 and im legit too. there afraid. dilaudids work too but its hard to find them to writew too. good luck

ABSOLUTLY CORRECT! WALGREENS IS THE DEVIL. THEY FILLED MY RX FROM 2000-2012. (JANUARY 2012 ALL STORES IN VERO BCH CHANGED THEIR RULES-NOT LAWAS BUT THEIR RULES) AND CUT OFF IN ORDER WHO THEY KEPT AND NOT KEPT. THEN THEY SENT ME TO ANOTHER WALGREENS WHERE THEY SHOWED ME THE DOOR EVEN THOUGH THE RX WAS FROM MY ORTHOPEDIC DOCTOR IN CITY BUT THE PHARMACIST DIDNT CARE.
I WAS VERY LUCKY TO FIND A MOM AND POPS WHO HAS FILLED EVERYTIME FOR ME NO ISSUES. MY PROBLEM IS FINDING A NEW DOCTOR TO WRITE ME ANYTHING STRONGER THAN A 10/325 PERCOCET. LAST MONTH I COMPLAINED AND SAID"DOC, NO OFFENSE BUT I TAKE YOUR DRUG TESTS, DONT COME EARLY, STRETCH MY MEDS YOUR GIVING ME AND I DONT HAVE A TOOTHACHE...I HAVE MULTIPLE SURGERIES AND PLATES,RODS SCREWS THROUGHOUT MY NECK/JAW AND SHRAPNEL THROUGHOUT MY FACE.
SO MESSED UP THE DAM GOVERNMENT ISNT HELPING ME EITHER BEING A VET I FEEL ABANDONED FOR THE COUNTRY I FOUGHT FOR. AND TO COME HOME TO THIS BULLCRAP IS FRUSTRATING.
THE NEXT TIME SOMEONE GOES COLUMBINE IN THE COUNTRY, I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED TO SEE A WALGREENS OR A PHARMACIST TARGETED FOR BEING SUCJH A RUDE AHOLE.
WALGREENS IS BY FAR THE WORST.

IM LOOKING FOR A DOCTOR IN INDIAN RIVER OR ST LUCIE COUNTY OR BREVARD. THE DOCTOR HAS TO BE 1 COUNTY OVER PERIOD AND THE PHARMACIES WILL FILL THEM HERE(EXCEPT FOR WALGREENS)
THE DR IM SEEING NOW IS SCARED AND OFFERED ME METHADONE(IVE HAD IN PAST AND ITS FOR JUNKIES OR PEOPLE NOT WANTING TO GET DOPESICK) AND DOES NOTHING FOR PAIN...PERIOD. AND WILL CANCEL OUT OTHER OPIATES IF TAKING METHADONE.
SECOND HE OFFERED oxycontin, or morphine or percocet-no 15's or 30'd or any roxicodone or no dilaudid either.ive had prolly every pain med available and since my insurance is limited...roxicodone and dliaudid not only work the best for me but are affordable.
these 10/325 percs i eat all 3 in 7-8am leaving 1 percocet for the rest of the day. it takes my body 30mg to function, get outta bed, shower...normal living thingsand the drs are scared to write them. im hoping the doctor im looking to switch out by november will at least write me dilaudid since it works for me as does the oxycodone. morphine doesnt work for me, or you need 100mg-200mg to have it work and those are expensive(limited insurance cause of all my surgeries i get denied from getting real good insurance and awaiting my ssi disability so i can get medicaid/medicare, etc and then all this bs wont matter and will find a dr and a pharmacy. its just right now until things ease up the dea has shut down all of florida. pill mills are gone so why are they still scaring doctors?

@Dan.....I have a Dr who has a office in Tampa and Lakeland. I go to the Lakeland office cause I like the Dr there better and it is nicer and cleaner. Would U be willing to travel that far?? I live in Brandon and it take me about 30 mins.

@Dan, I have to disagree with u on methadone. I've been on it for 12 yrs for chronic severe pain. It is very good for chronic severe pain, and does not cancel out other opioids. If u tried it before maybe u weren't on a high enough dose. I don't know how you all still get relief after long term use of oxycodone, usually a tolerance is developed and what used to last 4 hrs, then begins to only last 3.5 hrs, then 3 hrs etc..even oxycontin is like that, I started 1 every 12 hrs after a 2 weeks or so it only worked for 10 hrs to the point that it only lasted for 8 hrs, with methadone there's none of that. I haven't had to change my dose in years. This drug has an unusually long half life so there's none of the up and down roller coaster of taking a dose and then starting to feel like crap when its almost time to take it again, taking it, feeling relief for a few hrs, then the early withdrawal symptoms. With methadone there's none of that, that's why heroin users that are prescribed this can get by on one dose/day. Don't get me wrong, I don't like methadone, it's ruined my teeth, when I mentioned to my Dr that I had so many cavities, broken teeth he said thats to be expected. WHAT???? You knew about that and didn't warn me!? Many of these drugs cause dry mouth to some degree, I'm on 3, neurontin, methadone and elavil, all cause decreased saliva, not as bad as cotton mouth from smoking pot. Anyway, be hyper vigilant about brushing and flossing with these meds or you will regret it. I need more than 6 crowns, just pulled 2 back molars, and need several fillings. Anyway Dan, I don't love the drug for that reason, but as far as stabilizing pain and relieving severe pain it can't be beat, but it won't make u feel drugged, or high, or even get noddy, dopey like higher doses of oxycodone can.

I have 12 yr history of chronic pain from 3 failed back surgeries, am on methadone, oxy, neurontin, baclofen and elavil. Something I learned in the last 6 months is that our bodies have an amazing ability to heal itself, IF we provide it with the raw materials to do so. When we have pain from arthritis, even bone on bone arthritis, our body can't heal it if all we provide it with is antiinflammatories, pain medicine, cortisone shots etc...as an example, MD's don't believe we can regrow cartilage, and remineralize bone, so they want to do joint replacement surgery. Arthritis is totally reversible, but Dr's don't believe it. We CAN regrow cartilage, and eliminate the pain, just like type2 diabetes is reversible. I know a doctor that says we don't have to suffer anymore and can heal. We can minimize or reduce, even eliminate pain in many cases, if u know what to take. I have a friend that was able to totally get off all pain meds with. 6 yr history of fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, peripheral nerve pain from type 2 diabetes and 6yrs of long acting morphine twice a day +oxy 3x/day. I can't post websites here as soon as I do the site moderator it pulls it for review and doesn't post. I feel u guys, I'm an RN+ a chronic pain patient. I think I can help. All I know for sure is my doctors write me 5 scripts/mo without batting an eye, and those meds have ruined my health, destroyed my energy, sex drive etc.... MDs only know how to write scripts that suppress symptoms but never deal with the root cause. I learned that I've had a 20 yr history of calcium deficiency, signs are back pain, muscle spasms, high blood pressure, cavities, receding gums. There are over 140 diff diseases or conditions related to calcium deficiencies. My doctors chose to operate because they know no different.

@ DAN my god do some research on methadone PLEASE! IT DONT CANCEL NO OTHER OPIOD OUT.. IT IS USED YES FOR DOPE SICK PPL,BUT IS ALSO A VERY VERY GOD LONG TERM ACTING PAIN MED.. GET A CLUE

I have a clue!!! I took methadone for 5 yrs for pain with percocet breakthru to give my body a break from all the oxies but it didnt work at all for pain. Thats real life experience so I do have a clue.

We seem to have gotten off topic here a bit. This is about the so called "shortage" of oxys here in Florida. The truth seems to be that the only shortage is in the pharmacists taking it on themselves to be judge and doctor and deciding who gets them or not. Complaints should be made to the Florida Dept. of Health and the Florida Board of Pharmacy. I have made mine and the FBP told me that it was not their problem.... that I should have my doctor call the pharmacy to request that they fill my script. I have not yet heard from the DOH.

Still, I have been in touch with my state Representative's office requesting a meeting face to face to discuss this issue. Maybe there should be legislation that would stop the pharmacists from making such blanket judgements and we all can get out medications.

The pharmacists are afraid of the DEA, but the DEA is not directly responsible for the "shortage"... only FEAR of having a license pulled or fines. I believe that if it is a legitimate PC and doctor's script, it should be filled... let the DEA worry about whether or not the pills are used by the patient or sold to the dealers. They have their red flags to follow and it is THEIR JOB to police not the job of the pharmacist.

I encourage all of you to contact your Representatives in State House & Senate and complain.... send an email the the Board of Pharmacy and to the DOH. The more of us that ACT the more attention we will get.

There are a lot of us in the same boat... let's let them know about it. We need more than just an article in the newspaper... we need action!

Glad you like methadone. I was simply trying to tell you I took it for 5 years (due to the tolerance your talking about with oxycontin-oc formula) and it did nothing for my neck/jaw pain. Everyone must react different cause i still know people on methadone and it keeps them not feeling like another pill but the pain relief isnt there...glad its working for you. Hope someday Ill find the right combo/meds to work for me.

@Panicnpain..... I would sooooo appreciate more than u know. I DEFINETLY don't want to go back to my present Dr. and be forced to take another script ( for "1/2" of what Ive been taking for almost a decade), just to suffer through my days with my hands tied, cause apparently he's "scared" or "nervous" to write now, but only to cancer patients. Whatever advice or reccomendations you can provide, would be great. Thanks!

### UPDATE ###
today I got an I told you so from my wife. The walgreens in west palm beach, filled my script for #180 30 oxys. I breathed a sigh of relief and told my wife, "you were right dear". Its the first time I've said that, and I actually felt good about it.
I'm praying for all my fellow sufferers. I've done nothing special to get mine. As a matter of fact, I called my pharmacy yesterday and was told they don't have it. It was my wife who insisted we go there first. So in we went, I handed them the script. They said it would be ready in an hour. So cuddose to my wife for her insistence. I was even expecting the pharmacist to have words with me, he didn't. I'm considering myself very lucky.

I wish I could take methodone but I cannot because of my heart problems or I would take anything to lighten the way I feel.I am about ready to say F all this BS an just take an easy road out,an be done with all the stress that comes along with the chronic Pain,I am just so sick of laying in this F bed day after day in pain an feeling weak in my arms an legs along with pain,I am so use to working like a Machine an now cannot get up to do anything,An I feel like the biggest F loser in the world,I take 40mg of pills for depression an they dont do nothing for me,Nothing they put me on helps,So Since the DEA lets these pill mills remain open an screw the Entire State of Florida by allowing them to stay open an soon no pharmacy will have no type of pain meds to hand out in this State cause of Pill mills the worthless DEA an Goverment of Florida allowed to open in the First place,if it wasnt for the mills there wouldnt be no shorage of no type of pills,But leave it to retards that work for the DEA to be to F stupid to see that an let all the young punks go there an get scripts when not a thing is wrong with them but just lazy an dont want to work for a living they just want to sale pills an get rich like the pill mills are doing,I would bet anything the agents that go to them are being paid to leave them alone-bunch of Sorry Bassards

DAN williams : Angers me that you have fought for our country and you are not being taken care of. It actually angers me it for everyone that are legit and not able to get there medication. Is Boyton Beach to far for you? I know of a Dr. that has offices Dave and Boyton Beach. He is not afraid of writing prescriptions. As long as you have all of your ducks in a row. And he will turn anyone away if he feels that there is not a reason why you should be on these certain types of medication. His office does not take Health Insurance.Have to have updated MRI's. I do not take this medication, but like I have said in my previous post, my husband does. we are just not able to find a place that will fill his pres. We have been driving around to every place 2 x's a day for a week. Gone through $200 in gas and he has missed work. I guess we cant pay our electric this month and wont be able to eat. By this happening- it is the domino effect. I know you guys know what I am talking about. Sorry I am just venting.....

To EVERYONE...... Please go back and read post 583 & 611. For those that are new to this site, we all need to come together and contact this reporter that wrote that article and let her know the TRUTH in what is going on out there. And for those that have done this already (including myself)- Great.... Our voice matters and it can possibly make a difference. Instead of the public hearing about the abusers and overdosing being done , what about these medications that have changed your life and to be able to be part of society again. We have right as a human beings not to be in pain. Why should the people that take these types of medication automatically be labeled or looked at as a Drug abuser when they know nothing about you or your history. That is the problem, most people believe what the read or hear from the media. That is why we need to try and make a difference. Fight for our rights.....

panicpain,I also can't afford to pay high prices.I have found a pharmacist who is really trying to help people.He says that at walgreens that it is coorperate ,head offices,that is doing this.He orders meds evey week and just doesn't get them.Of course most of the pharmacists are jerks I've ran into alot of them but not all are bad.Like he said,they have to listen to headquarters or they get canned.If we find a good pharmacist we should protect them.Still can't fill oxycodone.I bet the druggies have them.Was hoping they were showing up somewhere,at least that would show they aren't gone forever.you know we get judged for wanting the oxycodone but I have been a apin patient for 15 years and no other med has ever taken my pain away completely like they do.Of course we want them.
