2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 18)

Updated

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.

f*** the dea and all those responsible for our suffering...i really hope all of them(pharmacists included) have their loved one-mother, father, brother, wife, son, daughter...whoever get 6 plates put in their neck and face and lower spine and have to live in chronic pain so maybe then they can realize what were going through. everyone would suffer like we are trying to get our legit meds except the dea-they would just steal out of the evidence locker. i mean they do that now and sell them on market anyways.
i dont like wishing harm on others but this is the only way they can ever know what iving in pain is all about. bunch of bs.

I go to dr. today and I don't know what to ask for ,for breakthru pain.I guess I'll try opana but is that hard to fill?I called the pharmacy mentioned and they are not taking new customers on for oxycodone. He was very nice and just said they only have enough for current customers. He also said walgreens and cvs are not getting them at all.Very nice guy and I could tell he is being honest. Also does anyone know of any chat rooms for chronic pain patients. Thanks

26 years of Rheumatoid/ Lupus sufferer. Been in & out of remission. Have taken chemo drugs to put my disease in remission; to find myself having blood transfussions from the chemo drugs that left me clinging to life. Now at 50 years old; for the past 6 years my docs have had me on only pain meds to have whatever u want to call being "funtional".. After driving to the same Walgreens I've been at for 10 years; they told me to come back tomorrow several days ago; I went back when they asked; still no 10mg Oxycodone. I have my muscle relaxer; but I am now bed ridden & unable to drive myself to a pharmacy. When my husband gets home; maybe he'll find a place. Meanwhile... I feel like a huge burden to my family after all these years. I may end this painful life. I love my family too much to do this anymore. After reading all your stories; I feel there's no hope in sight for getting any pain relief or out of this bed.. I loved life once & I truly love my family... I'm sorry for those of you that r too in my situation. God Bless & Cherish each moment you're not in pain.. I can't do it anymore. With Love to all you..

@ linda, I'm so sorry you are suffering so much. Please, think of your family, they would be devastated. Please, talk to a family member or a close friend. Call your Dr and explain and he will give you an alternative medication. You're not alone, you're loved, and you can get thru this. Many thoughts and prayers sent to you now. Have faith, I know it's hard. Call the suicide prevention hotline. We don't know each other, but I care too. Please find strength within yourself. God bless and keep you.
@sickynurse, plz look for donna in this string of posts. She can help. God bless all of you

I sympathize with you completely. I've noticed this problem with the large drug store chains for years now: they have told me several times that they will not keep certain narcotic drugs AT ALL in their inventory, or, these drugs will have to be special ordered (I tried for over a week to find low dose Demerol tablets for severe dental pain, and had a perfectly valid prescription AND the doctor expected the pharmacy to verify it, but TO NO AVAIL: GO SOMEWHERE ELSE was their recommendation)! I finally found a small, private pharmacy that filled the prescription for me immediately...the kind of pharmacy we don't see much of anymore, just these jackass giant department store type pharmacies where dispensing drugs is A SIDELINE now, not their primary function. Get another copy of the prescription and find a small private pharmacy to deal with. Hope this helps.

Thank you for your kind & caring words. I called my doc today to see if they could write something else other Oxycodone 10mg; as now I can hardly walk to the bathroom without help. No doctor was in today to re-write anything; said I had to b brought in Monday for something different. As for now; I can only pray for relief & whatever they decide to give me the pharm will have in stock. Prayers are greatly appreciated! Love to all!

oh so your not the only one. i went from 60mg oxycontin twice a day(and 5 30mg oxy ir for instant breaktru before the oxycontin for 8 months) and no pharmacy had any of it so had to go back to dr and get 10/325 oxycodonr which cvs had in stock. shortages everywhere and im hurting alot like person above said, i have to take 3 at once to even get out of bed and functioning then ive got 1 left without buying off people selling there 30's and 15's oxy and i go everyday. im the product of this fcked up scociety we now live in. send out legitimate patients like me and turn them in to desperate people now committing felonies hoping i dont get caught getting some pain relief off the street cause the doctors and pharmacies just dont care. what can we do?

I am so angry to hear all these poor people like me in pain like this. Please don't give up like panicpain says.I felt like that a few days ago and panicpain encouraged me but I know the pain and how hard it is to have pain relief and then have it taken away. And I seem to get less able to cope as the years go by instead of better.WHATS UP WITH OUR GOVENOR?He really is a lemon. To let this happen to us.I am also a burden to my family but if you ask them I bet they would rather have you here with them.I'm in bed too so I know how you feel.Something has to give.AND WALGREENS please stop with those adds about how much you care it just pisses us off more.

There is a rally on Wednesday for pain patients in Florida to get themselves heard by media. This is at the state capital in Tallahassee on wed Sept 12 2012 at 10 am. The stuation in Florida has declined in such a way that patients have to speak out before the election! Most of are going up the day before so we can be ready to rally the next morning. Flyers have been distributed by doctors and patients of the Fight For Pain Care Action Network.
A Dr in Ft Lauderdale that has been handing out these flyers to his patients has a friend in the DEA. He has been tipped off that all strong pain meds will be stopped in 3 to 4 months in FL. He has informed his patients of this news. He has no reason to lie because he is old enough to retire if this happens. He is warning his patients now. Many are trying to get to this rally. Strength is in numbers people, If patients don't start speaking out in large numbers now I have a feeling that not enough people will take this seriously and not come. BIG MISTAKE, And if they wait until after the election, it could be too late to stop anything. You can believe this or not. I seriously don't think its something to just blow off considering everything that has been happening since January. All state representatives have been ignoring the thousands of letters they have been getting. Sending everyone form letters that all say the same thing no matter who you write, the messages are the same.if you can't see what's happening? You need to take the rose colored glasses off. Washington state lost all of their pain care! This spreading and there is no reason why Florida can't be next! I'm not playing around.
This is serious and everyone should heed the warnings! Get to Tallahassee if you possibly can. If not keep an eye on the Fight For Pain Care Action Network on what you can possibly do to help!
I can't stress how important this rally is. This may be the only chance to speak out before January. God bless. I hope patients act now! Later may be too late! This is spreading across the country like cancer. Fight for your rights now!!!!!

Donna is telling the truth. This is true, it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. We will have no rights left. There's so much info within this org. No one will fight harder, but we all need to stick together. It's the only way to be heard.

Panicpain,I would never not go to support what I believe in but I just can't get out of bed.I've talked to Donna via email.I have written to a Senator I know pretty well.Hopefully he has the time to help;If anyone will help,he's the one.On another subject Opana is not very easy to fill either.about a year ago it was oxycontin they all hated now it's these. You care panicpain but you are one of a kind.I hope all goes well for you and yours.God will bless you.

So true, and well said! Especially the part about not asking when the pharmacy will get them in.....ask when their next order comes in, is what I'm going to start saying!!! I bet if we all knew what exact words to say, and in what way, we would probably be more successful with these lying bastards!!!!

@sickynurse, I appreciate your kind words. Donna is a wonderful person who is trying to help. I know what you mean about the opana. Went to same pharmacy for the second month and he said " it doesn't look good with just this 1 prescription." I explained I had 1 refill left for flexeril in another pharmacy and would bring new rx to him. I also explained I get my other meds thru VA in mail. He just nodded. I guess I'll have to see what next month brings bc I had the worst time filling those 2 months ago too. I'm so sick of worrying about it, I'd almost rather suck it up with the pain than be @ another pharmacist's mercy. It's so wrong, I wish I didn't have such an ill spouse or I'd be @ that rally on 9/12/12. I've written senators, representatives, congressman and our awful governor. Not 1 reply. All are in prayers. Blessings and peace.

In fairness to the pharmacist, he probably wants to help, and is worried the DEA will be breathing down his neck for helping me. Our only hope seems to be the org that Donna started. God bless

I had a pharmacist from Walgreens say those exact words to me " The pharmacist doesn't feel comfortable filling your prescription!!! " I started to become unglued!!! This was probably my 15th pharmacy that day, and it was a hot day of a 100 degrees or so in Florida! Let me tell you this, the weather wasn't the only thing making my blood boil that day!!! The tech said, he normally doesn't work at this store, and he's not familiar with the doctors names that the script's are from!!!!! So I thought , this guy is not going to fill ANY narcotics today, because he's not familiar with doctors in the area!!!!! What a crock of s***!!!! He might as well have said " I have this medication, but I don't feel like giving it to you!!" You have to understand.....my back was killing me from sitting in the car for so long, I was hot,and was tired of what I believe were mostly lies from the pharmacist, and the technicians!!!!! When I asked to speak with him, he wouldn't come to the drive through window, but I could still see him at the end of the very long counter that he was working at, as he spoke to me over a microphone, to which I could hear through the intercoms outside the drive through window. As I kept insisting he tell me what he could recommend that I do,,, his reply was " i don't know ma'am, I don't know what to tell u, and I'm not going to fill this" These pharmacist are holding a little to much power, and are out of hand!!! I have heard twenty different rules, even if they are all working for the same company....such as pharmacists who all work for Walgreens!!!! I could have gone back the next day, a different crew would have been working, and probably would have gotten then filled!!!

panicpain,I just read yoyo's post.unbelievable how we are all being treated the same way.So sad.I can't believe now you're in trouble of not filling your opana.I went to my dr. on friday and he left early. They don't care either. If the doctors and pharmacists would stand up with us this wouldn't be happening.

There isn't a person who uses this drug for chronic pain, that doesn't agree with you! So many lies from these pharmacists!!! The fact that they can say yes or no so frivolously, or if they choose to accompany their no answers with a lame excuse, its usually one that is not true! I can not believe they are able to make up what ever they want! I went to one of our CVS drug stores, which is the next county from mine by 10 minutes, and the pharmacist said I have to go to my own county!! Not my own state, but county! The doctor I see was literally down the road a bit, he has offices in both county's! Both these county's are small, and right next to each other!!! I went there again the following month, and a different pharmacist said " we are out today, but you can check tomorow" Nothing was said about me being across my county line neither!! Different day, different pharmacist!! Here's what I think, stop waisting ur time going to every pharmacy in your state......instead go to the same 4 or 5 pharmacy's that are close to your home or doctors office, which ever is more convienant. Stick with them, unless you get a reliable tip a pharmacy out of your usual network has them!!!! Keep going to your usual route till some one fills for you! More than likely, the whole crew or the jerk that told you no yesterday is on his day off!!! Pharmacist usually work 4,
twelve hour days!! Also from my experience , out of the two pharmacist's that work in the same pharmacey one is usually helpful, and honest....the other is the one that makes our lives more difficult, and we wish he or she suffered from just an ounce of the pain that we endure 24/7!!!!:)

You are exactly right my friend, different day, different story, same pharmacy!!!!! A lot of times its a combination of different people being on staff, and finding that one person who willing to tell the truth! I think the ones that lie, get pure satisfaction out of it, some love to being able to have the power to make people suffer, or possibly hate their jobs...... as we all know "MISERY LOVES COMPANY!!!!" Ten years ago when I was just taking Lora tab, and muscle relaxers (SOMA), I used the same pharmacy for my monthly refills..... it was the same problem......one pharmacist who, if he could use any reason he could find to not fill my scripts that day, but the other guy that worked there, never, ever gave me a single problem!!!! He's the way I wish every pharmacist would be!!

I forget what class type the oxy falls in, but let's just say it's 4. I and everyone else in Sarasota are unable to fill any of the pain meds that are in the class 4 category! Which means if u need morphine, oxycodone, dallotas, ect.. ext.. u will have the same problem!!! What do u now take, that you don't have a hard time getting filled? I am really curious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
