2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 16)
UpdatedMy spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.
@doneplayin Where do I go on the net to do this? Thanks!
thank you so much panicpain but I feel the same for you and everyone else that is suffering,it isn't right. And the lack of compassion is unbelievable. We moved from up north where everyone knew me so I didn't have to face this kind of discrimination. And I see the sickest people here. What it is with the pharmacists not caring it is blowing my mind. They should stop caring about money so much and care about making a stand with us right now.You know whenever you are in the medical proffession the patient always comes first.I haven't dealt with many that seem to care have you?I read where that pharmacist has seen so many druggies, well report them then when you catch them in the bathrooms.Dumping on sick people is not the way.Stand up and be counted for what is right.Take a cut in profits here and there.Help a few people you know who are really hurting.Wow start a trend, wouldn't that be something! And I think the doctors are getting the message. They seem to be very scared. But they shouldn't prescribe to some of these young people. Not these level of pain meds. Not unless there is a lasting injury or disease process. But see how everyone else is causing us to suffer. Not right, all we did was get sick.
Please get off your high horse....Walgreens pharmacist are liars. "We haven't had those in stock for months." I show them last month's empty bottle, then it's "I don't feel comfortable with that doctor." Then there out of stock. Why is it I can get that at Walgreens, yet the local mom and pop pharmacy will fill the script but at a price 10x the Walgreens price. There pharmacist are the drug dealers and they want their share....there all theives....
I get the same story, I'm not comfortable filling this script @ Walgreens after over.2 years. In may, I went to a mom and pop pharmacy, and first he said no I won't fill bc there's not enough for regulars, I understood that. Then he said I'll fill it but you'll have to pay between 1,200 and 1,500 for script. I said I have.insurance, then he took insurance and only paid 26.00. Told me to come back next.month, he would help me. Told me to call a day or two ahead of time. Even wrote it on script info, call ahead next month. Yea right, called 2 days before as told, and a rude little bi*ch pharm asst tells me " we talked about you, and we can't help you, so don't come back". She even added the pharmacist who filled it was a " fill in" and we fired him bc he filled your prescription. This is why I feel as I do. Constantly playing games, and lying to us. I'm waiting for this Thursday, when this other pharmacist told me he'd take me on as a patient, no problem. I'll believe it when I go there this week. I'm so sick of being treated like a pos. I wouldn't wish chronic pain on anyone, but let all the pos pharmacists who treated us like garbage, deal with 1 day of pain. I bet they'd treat us differently then. @ rxman, maybe you're one of the good guys.. but not all of us are junkies shooting and snorting our meds. Don't categorize all of us as such, as I have faith there's good pharmacists that truly want to help chronic pain sufferers. God bless

I thought I was saying the same thing..are you talking to me?
Hey Mickey, with that attitude it's no wonder people treat you the way they do. Perhaps if you had some manners.......then again, people like you make it miserable for the rest of us in legitimate need.
Thank you DRB. I see jerks like Mickey every day. They come in high with an attitude that the rules don't apply to them, they treat everyone in the store like s*** and then they wonder why no one wants to help them.
Kudos to DRB. Hey Mickey have you ever heard the saying that you can attract more flies with sugar then you can with vinegar? Seems to me all you have to offer is vinegar.
mickey, I hope you weren't responding to my post.We are saying the same thing I think.I haven't run into very many pharmacists that care about our plight.
Rxguy, can't you understand how some of us feel the way we do?.I worked hand in hand with pharmacists in the hospital setting. And I know some people are better at dealing with people than others but I had a tech at walgreens tell me she didn't have any of my meds in stock. Then as I was leaving the pharmacist came up to me and said wait we are telling everyone that, come back in two days and we'll take care of you.I went there a few months, then he retired and the new guy told me guess what,we don't have them so I know i'm being lied to.I start looking at myself wondering what about me looks bad to them.I've gained weight from being sick but I dress nice and I'm clean. It;s madning to be judged every time you walk up to the counter. And the suffering we do at home is horrible.Like I tell my family, you would shoot an aminal if it was in pain like this.I guess a human suffering is acceptable.
Micky, im with you, they havent delt with it as long as we have yet...give them time to sour! When they been 10 yrs. same Pharm starts looking down on them and after we are sweet yes mam no sir, yes sir, and thank you anyway after being lied to so many months we are over it, PERIOD!
I posted on here awhile back. I myself am a Chronic pain sufferer. I am 31yrs old and have been going to pain mgt. For the past almost 10yrs now. I have been on almost every pain med imaginable and to my surprise found out I am allergic to a lot of them. Ex.Opana, Dilauded, skelaxin, naproxen, morphine. Anyway...I was put on Roxies 30mg x7 a day and percoset x6 aday along with ALL my other meds.Fioricet for migraines, Xanex, Zoloft, Lyrica now Neurontin for Nerve Damage, Soma PRN and there are a few more. Well needless to say it took me about 5yrs to get me to where I was "comfortable" and could get through the day and take care of my children. Moved from NY down here to FL because my Father became very Ill and I couldn't keep driving back and forth the way I was anymore so....Here I am!! I have been down here 3 yrs as of the 15th of this month and have changed me pain mgt Dr 5x cause I did not like the quality of care I was getting. I felt like a # not a patient...I finally figured it out that, that's how Most of the Drs are out here. I have been off my Roxies for some time now. Dec 2011 was the last time I was able to fill them at the pharmacy I have been using for the 3 yrs down here. Since it took so long to actually find a "concoction" of meds that worked for me I was scared to death at what was next for me. I was VERY hesitent to try stronger drugs because of the tolerance I alredy have. I will say I have NEVER crushed, snorted or injected Anything into my body. If I never had to take a pill again...I would be Sooooo happy. But since I don't have a choice right now my Dr switched me to Methadone. He put me on what I thought was a high dose of 10mg x7 a day. And the percs for the break through pain. I have been taking them for about 10 months now and I am only taking 30mg a day of the methadone. Am I still in pain and uncomfortabke..YES...but it is not anything I can't deal with. I have to say to everyone....I am able to get out of bed in the morning before taking my pain medication. When I was on the Roxies I could NEVER do that!! I know Methadone sounds like a horrible drug and I was embarassed to tell my family and friends for a while what I switched to...but if U REALLY are in A LOT of pain and Do NOT abuse your meds...Methadone is a GREAT med for pain. It is addiction and I heard it is very hard to come off of...but I'm sure I will be on meds the rest of my life so I won't have to worry about that. If ever considering making the switch...start out with the lowest dose possible...break the pill in half. It take about 20-30 mins for the pain to subside..and made me VERY sleepy when I 1st started them..but I would Never go back to Roxies even if they were free. They make you think you are in more pain than what U really are...the more pain...the more U need to take and the higher your tolerance becomes....and then U have to worry about running out and going through awful withdrawals and I am over that. If U are a legit pain Pt....try methadone or at least do some research....it feel like I have been given back some freedom. I am still in pain...don't get me wrong..and can take more as I am prescribed..but I would rather deal with some pain than build up a crazy tolerance...Thanks for listening...Lisa
This drug has destroyed my city and ruined so many lives.

@ Lisa, you sound like an educated, smart young woman. The meds you were on before, sound like they were over medicating you. My goodness, 7 roxycodone a day and percocet? That's scary. I'm glad the methadone has worked so well for you, and you're taking less than prescribed. Some chronic pain patients dont realize there's no such thing a pain free. There's pain relief to where a person is able to function, and have some quality of life. You sound wise beyond your years, and realize that. Unfortunately, methadone is not an option for some chronic pain sufferers. I have had a severe panic disorder for almost 20 yrs now. I'm prescribed xanax, and methadone and xanax are a deadly combination. My shrink want me to use the xanax as a prophylactic, to prevent the panic attacks. I refuse to use the med like that and told the psychiatrist I will only take the xanax when I feel an attack coming on. I'm also on an antidepressant to help with the attacks. Thanks for sharing your thoughts here. Most are supportive, and some will be judgemental and look :down upon us. I could care less what those negative people have to say, unless it's a constructive thought that will help me in the long run. From 1 NYer to another, God Bless and thank you
@panicnpain...1st I want to say Thank You Very much for your positive thoughts on my knowledge. I have A LOT of medical issues..my migraines, fractured/herniated discs, scoliosis, nerve damage in my entire right side, Osteoarthritis, no curvuture in my neck which causes a lot tension in my shoulders and tingling in my hands which is also a big contributer to my horrible migraines. I also have severe OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and also severe anxiety. I DO take Methadone along with Xanex and Zoloft. I NEVER take them 2gether. I only take the xanex and Zoloft right before I go to bed. I take my last dose of Methadone 2-3 hours prior to that. If I get too tired I will go to bed without taking the Xanex and zoloft. When that happens I usually end up waking up in the middle of the night anyway because I don't sleep to well...so I will take it then. I take 3mg of Xanex and 50mg of zoloft. I do A lot of research because I am VERY scared of taking and mixing all of these meds. I don't drink or anything because I am too scared to mix that as well. I have 2 children. My son is 12 and my daughter will be 2 on Sayurday. It is VERY hard taking care of her some days and trying to keep up with....especially when it is rainy weather out. Those days get the best of me always. If I could be of any help to you or if U have any questions...please contact me. I see U are/were a Nurse. I was also Trying to become a nurse. Was taking a LPN course and of course was doing Great and I loved it...but as soon as we got to the bed making and hoyer lifting...which is stupid we had to do that anyways because that's what CNA's are for..anyway..we had to pass that and I couldn't do it. I literally collapsed trying to make the bed. I have had oveer 70 epidural steriod injections...went to physical ther 3x a week...chiro 2x a week and massage ther 1x a week for over 12 yeras. Had accupuncture the dur9000 rip my spine apart...I have TRIED everything......Surgery is on the list. Already had 4 consults..I'm just too scared to follow through. Best of Luck to you. I hope U find some relief and can manage to enjoy yourself..Lisa
@ Lisa, I understand. I've had cluster h/a's for over 30 yrs. I've been on every med for those, and the only relief I've gotten was running oxygen @ 10-12 liters a minute. I also use imitrex nasal spray, but that can only be used a few times a week as it's a very strong vasoconstrictor. Ive been an LPN since 1979, however I haven't practiced in 10 yrs do to husbands health. I also believe I have mild OCD, and don't know where I'd be without the antidepressant. I take it every night, as that's the only way it is effective. I see youre taking zoloft, it should be taken every night, it's the only way it will work properly. Those class of meds take awhile to get into the system, and skipping it sometimes is makes it much less effective. Do some more research about the xanax and methadone. Even though you're not taking them @ the same time, it's worrisome you're taking both in any given day. There are other benzos that are just as effective and aren't contraindicated with each other. My psych will only give me klonopin, and it takes way too long to work when I'm having a panic attack. I was taking diazepam (valium) for yrs, but they won't prescribe me that med, saying it destroys the organs. Ridiculous, bc it worked so well for me. I give you props for taking good care of your children
It is the hardest job in the world. Mine are grown and successful. I've been in pain mgt for 2 yrs, due to herniated discs in back, neck, nerve damage and arthritis. I know you live down here now, be very careful about having surgery on your back. My primary dr wants me to go see a orthopedic surgeon. I told him surgery is not an option. I know too many with back surgeries who were worse off than they were before and that was up in NY. I'm going to do another round of epidurals bc they helped, just didnt give me.long term relief. Take care and God Bless :)
fedupwihpharmacies,I am looking every day in area you are.If I find I will share.I only want a few to get me thru.I am putting off surgery because I'm afraid of no pain meds when I come home.I at this point am looking to pay but I can't even find a mom and pop that has any.I'm starting to get short with these people and I don't mean to but oh the lies!!!So sick of them.Would you pay or just insurance?
I mean I'll share info..sorry for mistake...I'm starting to loose my mind!!
@sickynurse, r u trying to fill roxycodone? If you are, I doubt.very much you'll find them anywhere. Dr switched all patients over to other meds bc there aren't any roxycodone in this area.
