2012 Oxycodone 30mg Shortage In Florida (Page 11)

My spouse, who is in severe, chronic pain, has been a customer of Walgreens for many years. We live in Pinellas County, Florida. Everyday this week we have driven from Walgreen's to Walgreen's trying to fill his prescription for Roxicodone 30mg, to no avail. I cannot get any help from his regular pharmacy. I know that it's dangerous for them to tell a total stranger which store has them in stock, but I don't understand since they know him, why they can't call around or give us any assistance. I am at a total loss as to what to do & would appreciate any information that you could provide. It is so hard to see him in so much pain. Thank you.

I just got of the phone with the Customer Relations representative to the CEO of Walgreen's... she told me bluntly that ALL OF THEIR PHARMACISTS HAVE THE RIGHT TO REFUSE TO FILL ANY PRESCRIPTION THEY FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE WITH BECAUSE THEY COULD LOOSE THEIR LICENSE.

I told her that when you give a front line employee the absolute power that they have, they are giving them basically the power of life and death over the patient.

THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE TO GIVE REASON FOR THEIR DECISION !

This means they can arbitrarily refuse to fill a script. Maybe they don't like the way you look, or the color of your skin.... whatever???

I told her that this was wrong and no one, especially front line employees, should not have this much power and that Walgreen's needs to rethink this policy.

Realizing that this incident would go no further than the person I was talking to, I requested that she escalate my letter. She said she would send it to the District manager (in Orlando). I explained that this was deescalation and I felt that the CEO should be made aware of my letter. She said that she would address it to him as well, but not to expect a response from him.

I thanked her and wished her a Merry Xmas.

Now... why don't more of you who are willing to write long responses online take a few minutes... call the corporate office at 800 WALGREENS,,, ask for the Customer relations mailbox # and address and send them a complaint. If they begin to get a lot of them we will unify in our efforts to get this policy changed or at least altered so as no one person has all this power.

The DEA has scared the pants off these guys and they are trying to cover their asses back up. But they have alienated us and put us in the same ship as the dealers and abusers. It should not be their job to POLICE for the DEA and they should not have to live in FEAR of losing their license because they fill a legitimate script.

But they are all afraid!!! What a way to run a business in the 21st Century.

@abuse- I hear you. Hey were all in this together and not able to get our meds for whatever reason. I dont wanna argue with you especially this time of year and the tragedies happening all over our country, there are alot of other things the police/dea should be trying to stop instead of stopping pain patients from getting their meds.
I dont know what you saw and it was wrong for me to jump on you and I apologize. Please lets all stick together and try to beat the govt from letting them control what pain meds we are allowed, etc. So just wanted to say that and have a safe xmas and happy safe new years.

after a long tedious process, I was able to find out that all of the big chain and some of the small legit pharmacies have already ordered their quota for the year. there maybe a few mom and pop stores that have an occasional 5 or 6 bottles left that or wanting 8 or with more dollars a pill. but for the most part Florida is dry

They were smoking pot AND picking up the script for Roxies. I agree when I made the call to 911 I even said I didn't want to be a profiling ahole BUT I this carload of kids ALL could have had cancer it's true But I was also going to be on the road with them & don't need an auto accident caused by kids that can't stand down on smoking in Parking lot and getting narcs? wth is that BS? do it at home. There is NO WAY the all could have been in pain or even dying & do that bs--b/c everyone with pain is experiencing the pharmacy difficulty bs & wouldn't want to complicate things for themselves unless it was easy come, easy go b/c not in pain & if they were all in pain & didn't care--than yeah that lack of empathy/compassion for other pm patients would be such bs that karmically that's on keal.I hate attys, cops, etc & the fact that some obnoxious brats necessitated it makes me sick! Oh, and I don't know a legit pain doc that doesn't drug test randomly so they could have been stealing "grandmas" script. Either way, of course I was not happy about calling but wth are they or you going to do If they swayed into my vehicle--pay my bills? fix my car? pay my astronomical medical for life? not worth the risk smoke your pot at home for goodness sake! if you are too ignorant to keep it on the downlow & keep it off the then yeah i would have to question the mentality in all other thought process too--like carryiing insurance, leaving the scene etc. On of my friends was in a serious accident & the kids left the scene but traffic cams caught their car & the kids were smoked out so I am probably sensitive. I call bs on flaming on pm boards fyi. There are proponents for med marj but then i people like those kids mess that up for those people too. no need for flaming. As far as recording--if more people recorded their pharmacy bs or stuck around for more than running in for their script & leaving they would see/be able to record the same. no flaming necessary for pm boards--we are suffering enough

after reading the book you posted i couldnt have helped but to say f..you NARC. calling 911 so you could try to ruin kids lives for smoking pot. like you never did it. cmon man your being no better than the dea. and all those accusations about taking bribes, etc. all you are doing is telling stories. wheres the video. wheres any evidence to back up all the accusations. jees.........

That is a long ass letter and a bitter one. This is what is happening to us... we are turning on our selves...

Call Walgreen's Corporate at 1 800 Walgreens and ask for the addy to file a complaint regarding pharmacist. They should give you a box #... I posted it before and my letter was edited out.

File a legitimate complaint by mail and tell them what they have done by giving the pharmacists so much power. They should have no right to refuse a legitamate script for WHATEVER!, much the less Oxy.

I talked to my doc and he told me that he could change me to something else... but why? Oxy is the best pain reliever available with the least side effects.

Suboxone sucks big time... nausea, headaches, and many other side effects go along with it and no one has mentioned that to take it you MUST BE IN WITHDRAWAL,,, That's right.... you must be in withdrawal to take Suboxone and then they titrate the dose until you have your script.

Docs that push Suboxone are getting kickbacks and their offices are full of literature on it. One even had me watch a video on it before they even saw me.

This is all BS brought on by the PRESS and they will not do justice in covering our problem.... the legits are left out to dry.

It is the pain free that have taken the right for us to be pain free away. Contact your Florida congressmen.... I did and they wrote a letter to the DEA. Now, maybe they need to get involved with Walgreen's and the other pharmacies that have such "policies" to discriminate against us.

The whole thing sucks... and they have not even begun to solve the problem of the drug addicts and dealers on the street. I pay $1 a pill and they sell them for $15 to $20 a pill. What is wrong with this picture.

I want to respect I deserve and the medication the legit doctor wants me to have.

It is NOT dangerous it is a bs power/ego trip. There have always been robberies or crazed addicts and if they were going to take a chance like a lifetime in prison robbing a store full of customers They wouldn't be calling First! that is garbage. Just like there is no law in Florida about the pharmacy being 5 miles from your house that would violate Federal antitrust & competition laws! Walgreens pharmacists like ALL pharmacists have had the legal right to refuse if there were good faith/legitimate grounds--questionable script, doctor, or patient. The can't profile over the phone by racist, fudicary, or personal addiction needs over the telephone.In my search for oxy 15mg I RECORDED ON IPHONE my over 50 experiences in 2 days of lies, discrimination, fraud, and theft by pharmacists! I was told one had it in stock & then was refused after meeting all good faith requirements--why? BECAUSE AS I SAW AND RECORDED AT VITURALLY EVERY STORE racism--i am white, if a latin pharmacist was on duty or black i was treated like an addict & watched a differnt race being treated appropriately, I was Dissed by a pharmacist to watch them gracioiusly help another customer who said Happy Hanakah/merry christmas & handed the pharm. a Card with a Gift CARD $$ in it, anotehr time, at my regular pharmacy, I was ignored/denied went to my car & then watched a car load of young, tatted out, smoking pot in the parking lot kids (called 911 about it) & i followed them into the store & they got "my oxy 15mgs!' as I told DEA, Walgreens Customer Relations, and 911--the pharmacist probably is going to hook up with that" patient" later in the night for either half of the pills OR Pot or Sex or whatever it is that met there Ego needs. Walgreens doesn't tell y0ou that THEY the same people with all their financial probs, addications , and egos are the same ones that lost what 17million narcotic pills fromt he Walgreen warehouse & they are abusing legit patients b/c the of the "trustworthy" pharmacists ar3e the ones diverting millions. Its not a handful or a statefull of illegal peo0ple IT IS A COMPANY ABUSING PATIENTS INTENIONALLY IN RESPONSSE TO THEIR "SMART & TRUSTWORTHY" PHARMACISTS diverting MILLIONS of pills. It is garbage, florida shut down pill mills 2-4 years ago, there is a database for tracking,k and i have 15 years of nonnegotiatable terrible injury and pain and my doctor is the strictest. Oh, when I complained to the final Walgreens she made a copy of my prescription & a blackballed note that i was a trouble maker and she refused to fill--i told her write what you want, but when you IMAGE a MEDICAL RECORD without authorization that is illegal & the ONLY PURPOSE to make a perfect scan of a doctor KNOWN to be legit is so just like the recent cash counterfieters who used photoshop & a prnter from office depot this Chick was hell bent on keeping a perfct image--that is beyond illegal & snce i requested it to be deleted in addition to the lack of authorization of copying medical records i am filing a lawsuit against Walgreens and am so proud of myslef for video and audio recording all the transactions I saw of cash/cards for sripts, racism, and of course the illegal diversion of my legit script she made the copy but didn't write a hateful note abvout me until I askef for her name to report her to Pharmacy board--yet another violation of law and licensing--Transcparency is required. Do NOT EVER believe that lie about pharmacy's being robbed--theives will take what they can get & what in the hell bank robber or theif ever called first to find out what was in the vault! besides--hospitals & surgery cent3ers Always have narcotics on site everyday & i don't kniwo about you but ven in south florida there n3ever has been any huge rush of bulgarlies. These people are3 just people and most were in college a couple of years ago acting like aholes then & besides anyone that has worked in medical field knows the Biggest addicts are the pharmacist, doctors, andnurses & as a result they act like the biggest aholes b/c they have no compassion for real pain and odn't want you touching their supply which they have to fill for a friend to hook up with later. it abuse, its illegal, & when you whistle blow they will make you look bad--ive told them, hey, if there is a problme, game on, lets call dea/police right now and report my doc (lol he is so strict) or me (so strict and legit) and they just get pissy, bc there is NO basis & they don't want to explain that they are savng it for a friend, their pot daeler, the person that gives them a cash holiday card etc. THIS IS THE EXACT SAME REASON AND WAY THE WAREHOUSE PHARMACIST DIVERTED 17 MILLION PILLS some brainaic gave them the power to 2nd guess physicians and real probs. good luck every one but why does no one else compalin or record and put an end to this bs

A suggestion for all, get off of oxycodone as soon as you can, its extremely addictive and will take over your life, (aka. driving all day to try and find it) Find a legit DR to get off the stuff with suboxone, its pretty tough without, and if you do have legitimate pain, please go to a legitimate DR.

everyone chill....oxycontin purdue patent runs out and generics will be available in usa by april...cutting costs and new formula is the old formula all over canada now and will be back soon and cheaper....
as for roxies, etc, percs, all out but a few still have them cause its end of year and will be refreshed by feb 1st....just gotta hold on lil longer.

I wentg to my Walgreen's to fill my script for Oxycodone (Oxy) and they were out... so I went a few blocks away to another one and they had the medication but would fill my script because 1) I lived out of the area..... only a mile from my house and 2) the doc was out of area.... 6 miles from the pharmacy and 3] they were not familiar with my doc... how can they be familiar with all docs?...

I complained to mgt. and finally after I threatened to take it to the corporate level did they concede. They said they would call my doc and verify the script. This will take a day or 2.

I am 61, and not an addict or dealer.... I need my meds for chronic stenosis of the spine... very painful.

Why do these pharmacists play God?

Publix Pharmacies have been very gracious this week with all the Walgreens being out in Orange County! They didn't ask any questions or put up a fuss! Go check with your neighborhood Publix!

I wish i could fill mine for $170.00!!!!!!!!!!! Stupid women must be new at this because i am paying 9x that for my three prescriptions ive been taking for 9 years at a mom and pop pharmacy, was also with good ol Walgreens for 8 of them years and my family for 50 years, thank you Walgreens for nothing!

went through the crawl again today. I had gone to the same pharmacy for the last five years, until six months ago they coudn't fill my script. This month they would fill it only if I filled my extended release medication with them as well. they never did this before. I use the purdue patient assistance program and they know this, but all of a sudden they won't fill an instant release only. This is a new one for me. So the search began, 8 walgreens, 3 cvs, and 2 walmarts later I got the usual responses.
-we don't have it in stock
-we don't carry that anymore
-we don't carry pain meds (walmarts answer)
-one pharmacy said there was a shortage but the woman behind me had the same prescription and they offered to fill it for her, but she didn't want to pay the 170 dollars for the script. each pharmacy is making up thier own lies and rules. I'm in my mid thirties but look 18 so I'm sure this turns off some pharmacies, but was never an issue before this so called shortage

called the doctor and he switched to dilaudid and said I'd have a better chance filling it, well no luck there either, I got all the same answers and burnt a tank of gas. I really thought this would pass by now, it is just complete bs. As a disabled vet I would expect the va to help with pain, but they only prescribe Tylenol and Motrin any vet will tell you the same, but they sure are quick to push antidepressants. People act like the va pharmacy is a great benefit but they won't fill from a non va dr. This is getting old. anyway just venting and was seeing if anyone has had any luck in hillsborough or pinellas county.

I have metastatic breast cancer, lymphoma & multiple failed back surgery syndrome & have paid $5 per pill for my oxycodone 30's just last month & look at the date of this reply, I have written & heard back from the DEA & they tell me there is no longer a shortage of this medication in Fl., B.S. because now they say that the companies that dispense the medications are only s ending a certain amount to Fl. I am on social security because of my cancer & my son whom is in the United States Navy sent me the money to get my medication, I will never pay this price again, also these pharmacies are filling other meds with insurance but charging for the oxycodone, this is illegal to do but they keep on filling the prescriptions (they feel like filling) and charging whatever they want!!! Other places around here are charging $8 dollars & more per pill, truly the only people that can afford this are not taking the meds they (pharmacies) should think about that, but then that would require a brain & sympathy when all they know how to say is I don't feel comfortable filling this script!! I would LOVE to feel just a little comfort & not to be in pain 24/7 but for now I will keep looking like the rest of SWF...6 prescriptions wasted & in to much pain to deal with this much longer>>> Please write & send letters to whomever will listen & hopefully help!
