10 Yr Old Taking 2 Mgs Risperdal 2 Xs Daily

i am quite worried about a hospital my son is in. He is 10 yrs old and was taken there on bad judjement he made by taking a air gun(unloaded) to school to protect himself from some neighborhood bullies. He has been kept there against our will, because dfs got involved and threatened to take him from us if we did not let him go there to be evaluated. He is still there after 3 weeks and counting, after we have asked them to let him go in his local doctors care. I saw him today, they have him on risperdal 2mg 2 xs daily and depacote 375 mg 2 xs daily. He is severely slurred in his speech and very sleepy and Im very scared what they are doing to him. They are diagnosing him with bi polar disorder, and I truely believe that he is a healthy boy who has been a victim to his environment, picked on by others ect....has trouble focusing in school so they first labeled him adhd and was put on several different medications.....now bi polar? Im scared and worried about what they are trying to say about my son. I would like to take a holistic approach to his treatment instead of pumping him up with drugs. It's obvious he is being overdosed and yet they have left him there without a doctors care all weekend to be medicated on this dosage. Anybody who has knowledge of holistic medicine, or just any advice i would greatly appreciate it.

PS me again! I was just joking my mom dad when they argue " do you need drugs? I think so!" seriously not!
so Ps i wish the courts system had a alternative treatment program they Trusted, obviously do not and 1 year court ordered just since I reached level of..Court. by the way had a panic attack twice and had to go to the hospital. Good luck out there.
This needs to stop, expressions and such are able and ready for everyone our energy shadow light is the true understanding. As our true selfs is in and why and for evereything, I was held in a hospital and people did not treat ME nicely and not even let me talk and had to go to court to not take meds then Ordered for one YEAR! to take meds... no choice, this needs to stop. everything can be understood and everyone Including doctors need a belief for beliefs or else always....the slammer and pills we get like genius pigs. I was treated un failiry within care all for things I did at home and parents wanted help. Well i got help and learned a lot about truth and people's Hearts. The same I did to get in their the doc's do as their choices upon Innocent people.
I just read this post, and I am outraged. I do not for one minute believe a 3-week stay is necessary for an evaluation. Furthermore, risperdone is not a first-line treatment for bipolar disorder. It's generally used as a 2nd resort after Lithium or the anti-siezure meds are tried first. I think the help you need(ed) would come from a good lawyer, not us. Best of luck. Hope you sued their ass and won!
Donna, Thanks, I hadn't checked the date of the original post. I wonder what happened. Does sound like the parent was being kept 'in the dark' and wasn't getting sound guidance. Leah
Leah, note - this was 2 yrs. ago - I, too, was hoping for more info. I do agree with your statement, however. My concern was he considered to have a severe mental disorder, in which case he may never have been allowed to be placed back under his parents care only, which bipolar can be considered
This is very scary and concerning! You need help from another doctor to 'work the system'. Such as your son's pediatrician - who can refer you to a child psychiatrist in private practice who you can consult with and who can act in your son's and your behalf.
I'm not sure what state you are in, but laws are very specific - the hospital has to have very clear reasons legally to hold your son for this long involuntarily - a mental health eval should not take 3 weeks! I agree with the person who said you may need to get an attorney if this doesn't resolve quickly!
Good luck!
sorry- pretty "sure" don't just take off drugs just like that
So sorry about your grandson. Since I assume he's 18 now, is he out? and how is he doing now?
asking because I have a daughter-in-law who was in that situation from around 16-18 then turned out and taken off all her meds. Not sure if she should have been on them but pretty even if not you don't just take them away just like that.

Wow, Bev, I am very sorry to hear what you are going through. we had a similar problem with our son, but thankfully his new school in MD took care of the problem and did something. Can you switch schools or perhaps call a lawyer?
Sorry to hear, Hope your son is doing better now and back home. My son has been bullied for many years and just got stabbed with a pencil in the Heart. The SCHOOL still refuses to admit there is an ISSUE. Bully's create VICTIMS who- when they fight back ALWAYS get caught and punished/drugged/jailed. Never the BULLY. THIS HAS GOT TO STOP!
