Antidepressant Overview

Antidepressants are a class of medications used to treat major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, chronic pain, and addiction. Common side effects of antidepressants include dry mouth, weight gain, dizziness, headaches, akathisia, sexual dysfunction, and emotional blunting. There is an increased risk of suicidal thinking and behavior when taken by children, adolescents, and young adults. Discontinuation syndrome, which resembles recurrent depression in the case of the SSRI class, may occ...

Is MX 31 Citalopram 10 mg?

I got a new larger pill with imprint MX 31. Is this a real citalopram 10 mg? It is quite different from the one I have been taken for many years. ## Yes, the round orange/peach pill inscribed MX31 is Citalopram 10mg from Mylan Pharma (NDC 0378-6231).

Mirtazapine: strange back pain

Hello, I am taking 30mg daily before going to bed (male, 43 yo). I have started with a very low dosage of 7.5mg and over the course of about 1.5 months I reached the current level. I experienced clear drowsiness (which is a good as I was having trouble sleeping) and dry mouth from the beginning. While the effect of drowsiness right after taking the pill persists, the dry mouth seems to be mostly reduced (80% from the top at the beginning). The reason why I'm writing is a strange back pain that started about 6-7 weeks ago. Here is why I find it strange and why I would like to hear from others if they experienced it like this: 1. I wake up every morning with acute back pain over all my back (bottom to below the neck) 2. Due to the pain I can hardly move in bed when I wake up. Often it...

Taking Nortripyline and Amytriptyline

Does anyone know any known dangerous pharmacological or toxic negative interactions of combining 50 mg of each? Nortriptyline 50 mg AM + amitriptyline 50 PM. Any more amitriptyline than that and I struggle to wake up, but 50 or 75 mg lacks the antidepressant properties of 100 or 150 mg. Tried only 100, then 150 of nortriptyline, but perhaps the SRI mechanism is the reason for the difference. And one's a metabolite of the other. Any thoughts?

What are GOOD Manufacturers of Sertraline that People Find Effective

I've been taking Zoloft then Sertraline for twenty years and I'm SURE the brand is not the same. For the past few years, I've become very depressed again, but never thought it might be because of a lousy manufacturer (as happened with Lorazepam when Watson was bought by lousy Actavis). Does anyone know a good, effective BRAND of Sertraline that has helped them a lot with depression? I order from Costco but can't figure out the brand on the label - will call tomorrow and ask. What a jungle this is becoming. Just not right. ## Hello, Denise! How are you? After being on it for 20 years, it is also possible that your body had just become tolerant to it and it no longer works as well for you. It is completely normal for that to happen and it usually will eventually happen wit...

Mirtazapine causing anxiety/agitation?

I have been taking 15mg of Mirtazapine for three weeks. This was prescribed after suffering from insomnia and anxiety, with moderate to severe depression, for three months following complete withdrawal from the SSRI Citalopram (which I did very gradually, over three before this months as I thought I was stable enough to stand on my own two feet). My sleep improved immediately and I started to have some better days over the first two weeks. I know recovery should take time, and that the Mirtazapine takes at least 4 weeks to show its beneficial effects. On that basis, by the end of the second week I was feeling in a pretty good frame of mind and quite optimistic that I had finally turned a corner out of my anxiety. This third week has been a real disappointment though. My anxiety has got ...

Dangers of mirtazapine

It seems to me that Mirtazapine is a potentially dangerous drug with little information known about it. My veterinarian prescribed this drug in small quantities for my cat as an appetite stimulant, so I began reading articles on the drug and its effects. Although it is supposed to be used as an antidepressant for humans, it has a wide reputation for causing suicidal tendencies in children and young adults. It causes weight gain (the side effect my vet was looking for in my cat's case). It also can cause feelings of depression, and wooziness. I spoke with a nurse who took it and she said the effects of sluggishness and dizziness lasted 2 to 3 days. It can also cause nausea and headaches. It seems to me that these side effects are anything but what a person who is already depressed sh...

Just Started Mirtazapine for sleep

I just started 30mg Mirtazapine for sleep; weened off Lunesta 2mg, to 1mg, to stopping. First night of 30mg Mitazapine wiped me out the next day. Tried again second night and did not get out of bed second day. Felt like I had the flu. Took 1mg Lunesta 3rd night and slept like a baby. Felt strongly ok the 3rd day. Should I cut this down to 10 or 15 mg Mirtazapine and keep trying with this medication? Or stop since I had such a bad experience first two nights?

Recently I am suffering from anxiety and obsessed with any past event and try to re-create the situation and tension builds up . I am also getting less sleep very frequently. I am 65 years of age. Would request you to brief me about the side effects. ## Fludac contains the active ingredient Fluoxetine, which is an SSRI antidepressant. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and weight gain. Stopped Zoloft

I had been on 100mg of Zoloft for over 20 years. I recently decided I did not want to be on it any more. My doctor helped me wean off of it and lowered my dose every 14 days. My last official dose was just under a week ago. I feel worse this week than I have after the days of just lowering my dosage. Am I crazy? I am weepy, tired, and sooooo irritable. My stomach feels like I am on a rollercoaster. I am a 53 year old female and wondering if this is my new norm? Has anybody had any similar experiences?
