What is this pill? ## The marking is actually "S500" instead of "5500" (first letter S instead of number 5). As others have stated, it contains Acetaminophen 500 mg (NDC 68210-0013 among others). Here is an example of what a box may look like, but it could be packaged under multiple brands. My pharmicist said they were no longer made. ## The FDA has asked dr to no longer prescribe it with 500 mg acetaminophen but instead to use the mandated reduced 325 mg acetaminophen. The FDA has also asked pharmacists to contact the drs if a rx is written for the 500 mg before filling it. The hydrocodone and acetaminophen (Lortab, Vicodin, Norco) are still made. But, the amount of acetaminophen has been reduced. ## So can you take a Tylenol to get the same results since they lowered it to 325? I'm so used to the 500 and it just isn't the same ## Talk to your dr first. my pain is too much to handle. the doctor cannot give me more than 30 tablets of hydrocodone/acetaminophen at a time. So I need to know how many Tylenol to take to help me. ## Hi Nikki, To my understanding, no amount of tylenol (acetaminophen) is equivalent to the effects of Hydrocodone, before experiencing what would be considered an overdose of acetaminophen - which can be extremely toxic to the liver. It sounds like your best bet would probably be to ask your doctor for a stronger pain medication (that you can take less of) or opt for a safer, more natural alternative that can be used as an adjunctive therapy to what you already take. Need a central/eastern NC doctor willing to prescribe pain medications. I am taking methotrexate and have been told multiple times not to take otc medications such as ibuprofen and Tylenol and referred by the specialist to my PCP for medications. My PCP is aware of the methotrexate and physician telling me not to use otc medications, but will not prescribe anything. He actually told me to take "a little" Tylenol or ibuprofen. A lot won't even help my joint pain. My son takes 1/2 a tablet every 6 hours how much tylenol is he actually getting? ## If his tablets are 5/500's then a 1/2 tab is 250 of Tylenol and 2.5 of codeine. ## The active narcotic in this is Hydrocodone, so he'd be getting approximately 2.5mgs of it and approximately 250mgs of the Acetaminophen/Tylenol. And the reason I say approximately, is because when you cut, or break a pill, it is very hard to be precise, so the dosage could be a milligram, or two, one way or the other. Are there any other questions or comments?

A new pain has developed in the side (kidney area) that is worse than the back pain. stopped taking tylenol a year ago for the same reason. what is going on? ## Even though you may have stopped taking Tylenol, the Vicodin you are taking 1 a day contains 500mg of Acetaminophen; which is the main ingredient in Tylenol. I'm no doctor, so I'm not certain what's going on in your system, but you may be better off switching to Oxycodone or something that doesn't contain Acetaminophen. Your doctor should be able to give you an answer as to why your body is reacting the way it is.

I was prescribed this medicine and it says for severe pain, is 5 mg the Lowest amount you can get or is it higher than 7.25? ## It comes in hydrocodone 5mgs, 7.5 mgs and 10 mgs. There is 500 mgs of tylenol in it. The 5 mg is the lowest dose in pill form ## Hydrocodone, which is the generic for Vicoden, is what I was prescribed after Percocet didn't give me much relief. I then was switched to Roxycodone, because I have elevated liver levels in my blood work, and the Tylenol can worsen that. I am now prescribed 30 mgs. of Roxycodone three times a day. Whether it be Percoset, Vicoden, or Oxycodone or Roxycodone and going up to more powerful pain medications, they are all so very addictive. Do you know what they will substitute the hydrocodone whith ## Hi Rhonda, They're not actually discontinuing this medication. All they are really doing is lessening the amount of Acetaminophen in their products. It started sometime earlier this year, but all manufacturers have to abide by this new law which only allows up to 325 mgs of Acetaminophen. This is primarily due to safety concerns with liver toxicity. Some pain management patients suggest taking an extra Tylenol to make up for it. However I wouldn't necessarily recommend more of something that is considered to be so toxic.
