My mom was given Acyclovir 800 mg to take 5 times a day. What does that mean??? ## 24/5=4.8 hours or 288 minutes or 4 hours & 48 minutes ## Your math is right, but should we take the number of waking hours and divide by 5 rather than the entire 24 hour period? So accounting for sleep, 16 hours awake / 5 times = 3.2, so about every 3.5 hours? Update - I looked up the Acyclovir dosage guidelines on DailyMed, and it states "800 mg every 4 hours orally, 5 times daily for 7 to 10 days." ... So it seems like somewhere in the middle of both of our answers lol

As is stated, one is meant to be taken precisely every 8 hours, but the other is just 3 times a day. That three times a day doesn't necessarily mean it has to be 8 hours apart, for instance, the doctor may just mean for someone to take it with breakfast, lunch and dinner, or in the morning when waking, at lunchtime and then at bedtime. Some medications need to be taken on a precise schedule to keep the level of them in your body consistent for them to work best, but with some medications, it doesn't matter. I was diagnosed with shingles and was prescribed with ACYCLOVIR 400 MG TABLETS and it says to take 2 tablets by mouth five times per day for 7 days.. But I don't understand? How many hours apart do I wait for each set of two tablets? ## I was just given the same med, but mine is 1 tab 5x day. I am 80 years old and use oxycodone very sparingly for neuropathy. To help prevent possible dependency I usually take one 5mg oxycodone about four hours apart. I weigh 210 pounds and my prescription allows two 5mg pills every six hours, but that dose clouds my thinking even though it does manage pain better. I usually get by with taking one 5mg oxycodone pill no more than three times each day beginning from about 10am. Getting up each morning is the most difficult; If I take two 325mg Butalbital tablets upon arising I seem to get a little boost, so that I can function enough to get going without too much discomfort. I don't start taking Oxycodone until after breakfast, at least two to three hours after getting up. Only on a rare occasion, where I must be very active through the day ...

My doctor prescribed me this because I might have a tear in my meniscus. Diclofenac 75mg -2 times a day. My question is do I have to space it out by exactly 12 hours ? Or is it just a general idea? Here is the deal. I have a herniated disc and degenerative disc disease. I have had physical therapy, chiropractor and epidural steroid injections. I am a Kaiser patient. I am taking Morphine ER 15 mg 4 times a day with percocet 5 mg 3 times a day for breakthrough. I was cleaning my coffee pot with vinegar & water and it spilled out on my counter. My prednisone pills 10 milligrams were in a paper envelope. Most of them got wet and looks like they dissolved a little. But I took them out of the envelope to dry. Some of them fall apart when I pick them up. Is it still safe to take these. What is the meaning of "take 4 capsules per day"? (i.e. How far apart is the dosing schedule?) ## Generally, that would be every 6 hours, but it can depend on the specific medication being asked about. Can you post back with more details? In some cases, it may mean that you can take all 4, at once, it may mean two doses of two capsules, or even taking up to four a day but not always four if not necessary. For instance, I take a medication for nerve pain, and it is prescribed to be taken up to a certain number of times a day, but that doesn't mean it has to be taken so many hours apart, I can take them all at once at night, or take several throughout the day.
