My mom was given Acyclovir 800 mg to take 5 times a day. What does that mean??? ## 24/5=4.8 hours or 288 minutes or 4 hours & 48 minutes ## Your math is right, but should we take the number of waking hours and divide by 5 rather than the entire 24 hour period? So accounting for sleep, 16 hours awake / 5 times = 3.2, so about every 3.5 hours? Update - I looked up the Acyclovir dosage guidelines on DailyMed, and it states "800 mg every 4 hours orally, 5 times daily for 7 to 10 days." ... So it seems like somewhere in the middle of both of our answers lol

Is there a difference between 1 pill every 8 hours and 1 pill 3 times a day? 3 times a day is 8 hours yet I've seen it written both ways. ## Hello, Bosco! How are you? Yes, there is a difference. As is stated, one is meant to be taken precisely every 8 hours, but the other is just 3 times a day. That three times a day doesn't necessarily mean it has to be 8 hours apart, for instance, the doctor may just mean for someone to take it with breakfast, lunch and dinner, or in the morning when waking, at lunchtime and then at bedtime. Some medications need to be taken on a precise schedule to keep the level of them in your body consistent for them to work best, but with some medications, it doesn't matter. Since I am taking cyclobenzaprine how often is three times a day? They are 10 MG tablets ## Hello, Kristina! How are you? Are you supposed to take them up to 3 times a day, as needed, or did your doctor direct to take them regularly? Generally, they should be taken about 8 hours apart. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth.

I was diagnosed with shingles and was prescribed with ACYCLOVIR 400 MG TABLETS and it says to take 2 tablets by mouth five times per day for 7 days.. But I don't understand? How many hours apart do I wait for each set of two tablets? ## I was just given the same med, but mine is 1 tab 5x day. My doctor said I didn't have to wake up at night for a dose, so I set this up: 6am,10am, 2pm, 6pm and the last one for the day @ 10pm. Hope this helps. ## My prescription for CARB/LEVO 25 - 100 mg reads: Take 1 and 1/2 tablets by mouth 5 times a day. The first pill would be at 8:00 AM. When would the times be for pills 2, 3, 4 and 5 - if bedtime is involved, which would be at 22:30 / 10:30 PM? Thank you for your assistance.

I am 80 years old and use oxycodone very sparingly for neuropathy. To help prevent possible dependency I usually take one 5mg oxycodone about four hours apart. I weigh 210 pounds and my prescription allows two 5mg pills every six hours, but that dose clouds my thinking even though it does manage pain better. I usually get by with taking one 5mg oxycodone pill no more than three times each day beginning from about 10am. Getting up each morning is the most difficult; If I take two 325mg Butalbital tablets upon arising I seem to get a little boost, so that I can function enough to get going without too much discomfort. I don't start taking Oxycodone until after breakfast, at least two to three hours after getting up. Only on a rare occasion, where I must be very active through the day ...

I have taken this pill cyclobenzaprine for back muscle spasams. it says I pill by mouth three times daily as needed. The first pill helped for about 4 hrs and I took a second pill and that lasted about 3 hrs. can I take another pill now to help me sleep ## Hello, Elaine! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain. No, that would be too close together and could create the risk of an overdose. According to the FDA, a 3 times a day dosing should be approximately 8 hours apart, unless your doctor has instructed otherwise. Sometimes, your doctor might designate breakfast, lunch and dinner, or morning, noon and dinner time. Have you asked your doctor for more clarification? Typical side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth.

My doctor prescribed me this because I might have a tear in my meniscus. Diclofenac 75mg -2 times a day. My question is do I have to space it out by exactly 12 hours ? Or is it just a general idea? How serious would it be if I took it 8-9 hours later instead? Like say I was on my way to bed but messed up my morning dose time . Do I wait until the next morning ? ## Hello Kris, I hope you are having a wonderful day. First I want to ask exactly what the instructions on your medication states. If it says to administer your medication twice a day but does not specify a time frame then you may be able to take it 8-9 hours apart. If it does say specifically on the administration medication that you should take them 12 hours apart I would suggest doing so, or at least as close to that time fram...

I'm trying to figure the same thing out? ## Hello Sue and Gayle! How are you? I am sorry about the confusion and happy to help clear this up for you. According to FDA and NIH instructions, 4 times a day would be every 6 hours. The typical side effects are listed as possibly including eye burning, redness, irritation, and tearing. Does the antibiotics, two times a day means it have to be taken strictly 12hours apart? will taking the medicine at 8 or 10 hours apart be okay? ## No, the time does not have to be exactly precise, but you should try to keep them as close to the 12 hours apart, as possible. The U.S. FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Recently, I have experienced sore in my ear. Not sure if it is swollening or not. I'm taking ciprofloacin every 12 hours plus metronidazole every 8 hrs. tonight I have to take one at 11 pm and the other at 12:30 can I take both at 12:30? ## Hello, Penney! How are you? Yes, that is fine, the times don't have to be 100% precise, just as long as you don't miss a dose, or take them too far apart. Unless your doctor has given you some reason why the dosing intervals must be exact. Here is the deal. I have a herniated disc and degenerative disc disease. I have had physical therapy, chiropractor and epidural steroid injections. I am a Kaiser patient. I am taking Morphine ER 15 mg 4 times a day with percocet 5 mg 3 times a day for breakthrough. I ran out of meds early last month because i went camping and lost the bottle that had a weeks worth of meds inside. I don't take the entire bottle with me when I travel, just what I need while I'm gone. I did not tell my doctor that I lost the meds. My doctor gave me a script that was dated for 6/25 (tomorrow). Last week I was out of town for our annual week long vacation. While I was there (in the same state, but 3 hours from home) I went to an urgent care with my empty script bottles and the urgent care doctor gave...

I was cleaning my coffee pot with vinegar & water and it spilled out on my counter. My prednisone pills 10 milligrams were in a paper envelope. Most of them got wet and looks like they dissolved a little. But I took them out of the envelope to dry. Some of them fall apart when I pick them up. Is it still safe to take these. They were given to me for a cough from sinus and allergies. ## I have follow up test every six month for cancer n removal of right kidney. Because fifteen years ago I had reaction to iodine. I have to take 50 mg 13 hrs before test then 50 mg 7 hours before the test n 50 mg 1 hr before test. Also I take 50 mg of Benadryl 1 hr before procedure. Nothing else to come off it. What is the meaning of "take 4 capsules per day"? (i.e. How far apart is the dosing schedule?) ## Generally, that would be every 6 hours, but it can depend on the specific medication being asked about. Can you post back with more details? In some cases, it may mean that you can take all 4, at once, it may mean two doses of two capsules, or even taking up to four a day but not always four if not necessary. For instance, I take a medication for nerve pain, and it is prescribed to be taken up to a certain number of times a day, but that doesn't mean it has to be taken so many hours apart, I can take them all at once at night, or take several throughout the day.

I was prescribed bactrim for my UTI and it says to take it 2 times a day. Does it matter when I take the 2nd dose? ## Yes, antibiotics need to be maintained at a regular level in your body to be fully effective, so you should take your doses as close to 12 hours apart as possible, according to FDA directions. Its typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was given opana er 10 mg take one every 8-12 hours with hydrocodone 10/325 take one three times a day for breakthrough pain. Is it safe to mix these and how far apart should I take them? Dr said opana soon as I wake up n four hours later hydrocodone said can take together bc they release different but that sounds incorrect n not safe to me ## Your doctor is correct, they are often taken together to help gain better control of pain. Of course, you can never know how they will affect you, until you actually try it and it is okay to space them a few hours apart, if you prefer. The FDA warns that these medications carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. If you were prescribed to take it twice a day then you would HAVE to take one in a.m. and one in p.m., right? Plus the directions should be on the bottle! ## Hello, Susan! How are you?
