I've been taking Tecta for more than one year, have been experiencing weight gain, bloating, sugar cravings, and having hip pain. Also, my overactive bladder seems to have worsened. I didn't have any problems when taking Zantac, but was switched by my doctor to Tecta. Can this medication be stopped abruptly, or will I need to taper off it? ## Always taper off ... I have been taking testa for one month now and have developed a very sore and swollen for no reason. I was wondering if by using the drug Tecta if it causes weight gain or causes bloating or retaining water? ## From what I can find, this contains the active ingredient Pantoprazole, which is a proton pump inhibitor that is used to reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach to treat or prevent conditions, such as heartburn, ulcers, GERD and Gastritis. And it can cause some gas and bloating, as a side effect, however, it is rarely known to cause water retention, but it has happened in some people. Have you contacted your doctor? After 6 mos on 300 mg allopurinol, headaches still occur, sometimes migraines, acid reflux has gotten worse and worse, never was a problem before. Was put on tecta for that, am allergic to it, only on one week caused hives, itching, dizziness sometimes with spinning vertigo, so no more of that one. I am wondering if anyone with these problems had them lessen when changing to uloric. It is supposed to have fewer side effects. ## There is also a risk of it causing side effects, which the NIH lists as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, GERD, dry mouth, and changes in urination. That is just the nature of adding a chemical to the body to try to correct a problem. Have you started taking it, yet? If so, has there been any change? Are you on any other medications?

According to the U.S. FDA, this medication is actually not intended for long-term use, it is usually used for 12 to 16 weeks, then a break should be taken. Taking it continuously for too long creates an increased risk of hip fractures. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, and flatulence. I have been experiencing a lot of heartburn in the past few months. I was quite concerned since I had a silent heart attack 2 years ago, and really had no symptoms nor any risk factors at the time .... So now I am worried every time I feel anything out of the ordinary. When I asked my doctor if it could be acid reflux, she said probably and gave me a 2 week sample of Tecta. I only took a few and stopped because I am going on holiday in a few days and don't want to experience any possible side effects. My big question is ... I suffer from abdominal pain and lower backache since I started taking Tecta. I've been taking Tecta for over a year, am bloated,gaining weight, craving sugar, experiencing hip pain. Also have an overactive bladder and this seems to be worse. I have Gerd. Have been on tecta for the last four years. No problems until I started taking sertraline in April 2015. Since then I have had acid reflex symptoms, constantly spitting out phlegm and very very bad taste in mouth. Chronic. 40 mg of tecta once a day. 100 mg of sertraline once a day. Last endoscopy was in Oct. 2015, told to come back in 3 years. I am at my wits end. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you ## Hello Carolyn! How are you? Have you considered speaking to your doctor about switching off the Sertraline to see if things improve? There are other similar medications you can try. Its other typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include headache, dry mouth, weight gain and dizziness.

having only one kidney will tectra affect my health adversly? ## Hi eva, I actually came across an article on Tecta (Pantoprazole Magnesium Tablets), briefly discussing the role our kidney's play when it comes to metabolizing this medication. I quoted the paragraph below thinking it may be of help: "Kidney function: The kidneys are responsible for removing pantoprazole magnesium from the body.
