88 Topics FoundHere's my experience. (I'm a 57 yo man) I was on 30mg of Trazodone. At first it worked. But after that year, the drug Seroquel was mentioned for the 100th time bcuz I didn't want to take such a strong med, but the type. After a little research Seroquel IS given at 25mg and 50mg 20 min before sleep. In all transparency, I suffer from Nocturia, a condition that make you wake 3-7 times to pee. My sleep was hardly worth the word.) From the first night I took Seroquel at 50mg and not only did I get up once but went right back to sleep It has, been some odd reason, a cure for the Nocturia ( I don't wake even once) and sleep like a baby for 7-11 hours every night, for the first time in over 3 years and I couldn't be happier getting that kind of sleep. It's a god send fo...
Quetiapine, sold under the brand name Seroquel among others, is an atypical antipsychotic medication used for the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depressive disorder.[6][7] Despite being widely used as a sleep aid due to its sedating effect, the benefits of such use do not appear to generally outweigh the side effects.[8] It is taken orally.[6] Common side effects include sleepiness, constipation, weight g...

I have been taking Seroquel for a year now for insomnia. Anybody else take Seroquel for this? I have looked around and it doesn't even seem that Seroquel is normally given to someone for this. ## I also have been taking seroquel for insomnia for about a year and a half now. I must say, my Dr tried every sleeping pill out there on me. This is the only thing that has worked for me, I've never had a sleepless night since. I was also being treated for panic attacks and depression at the time. But all my life I had trouble sleeping, I'm talking up till 5 or 6 am with a million things racing through my mind (stupid stuff) but not any more. My doc told me that in low doses, it does work on some people for insomnia. ## Good information ## My son has OCD and was put on Seroquel for s...
Can Seroquel 50mg be taken together with pax 10 mg ## Yes, unfortunately these class of medications (anti-psychotics) do carry the side effect of weight gain. These meds actually slow down your metabolism causing weight gain. If you are using it for sleep which is what a lot of us are prescribing it for, so as to not get you hooked on sleeping pills. These meds side effect of sleepiness is why we use this even if you're not psychotic. Try breaking one in half with a knife and try using just half. Whatever you do if you are taking them every night you DO NOT stop taking this medication before speaking with your doctor first. Abrubt stopping of these meds could cause seizures and other problems you will have to be titraited from the drug if you so choose. It is a good drug for occasio...
Can anyone help me? I am tortured by my lack of sleep, i would be very greatful if there is anyone in san diego that could provide me with some seroquel. I am afraid to go to the doctors and be diagnosed with bi polar, out of fear that it could affect my profession. Hopefully well talk soon.Rich. Editor's note: Contact information has been removed. Sorry, but we do not allow or promote any illegal methods of sales. ## What else have you used to try to remedy your insomnia problem? Seroquel, which is most commonly used to treat Schizophrenia is not the first choice to treat insomnia, nor is it the only option. Additionally, even if you see a doctor and are diagnosed as bipolar, or as having some other condition, it is none of your employers business, unless it affects your work in som...
Dr. put me on Seroquel 2 weeks ago as I was having severe panic attacks. What is it actually prescribed for? ## Seroquel is an antipsychotic used to treat mood disorders including but not limited to schizophrenia. Most recently many drs have found it very successful in treating many other mood disorders and patients who are resistant to other sleep aids. ## I'm on it for my Bi-Polar Depression ## seroquel is an anti-psychotic drug, used to treat bi-polar, depression etc... it basically knocks you on your butt, so u don't have to worry about anything. Extreme weight loss does occur. ## Seroquel is used as an off label use=very dangerous and unethical. This drug is going to kill me---I already have heart problems. ## sEROQUEL IS AN EFFECTIVE SLEEP AID AND ANXIOLITIC. hOWEVER IS IS...
I had been on a lot of opioid medication for several years and Seroquel at night for sleep. Two years ago I got off the pain meds but continued the Seroquel. Over the course of a couple of of months I developed worsening involuntary twitching and jerking of my legs at night. One afternoon I sat down to pay some bills and couldn’t even see right or sit still. I went to ER and they gave me some Ativan which put me back to normal for a few hours. The same symptoms continued. I looked back thru my daily journal and figured out the twitching and jerking started about 30 min after I took the Seroquel at night. I stopped the Seroquel for 6 nights and the movements went away. I took it on the 7th nite and it all came back with a vengeance. I stopped the Seroquel and have not had the probl...
I was prescribed Seroquel for insomnia after Ambion and other medications did not work for me. He only wrote me 30 of the 50mg coated tablets, stating that I may find what works for me and that typically people need between 200-400mg's/daily. throughout the last week, I have been sleeping every night with only an hour or two of being awake throughout which is leaps and bounds from how I was before the Seroquel. I have been taking 250mg at 8;30pm and all was going well until...oh s***, I only have 250mg's in my bottle and its a Friday night! with a busy schedule, I didn't realize until my GP's office was closed. it is now sunday morning and I have not slept since Saturday morning. My question: can I do anything to get a pharmacist to help me with one nights amount, taking...
Filed under SeroquelI am taking the antipsychotic Seroquel, what is the normal dosage one should take? ## I take 1400 mgs of seroquel a day is this normal ? ## Although that is way too much for me, its a common dosage amount for some. Alzheimer patients and those with severe psychosis often get 3500 mg and up according to my doc. I was prescribed 50 mg per day 5 years ago for shift work disorder. (an off label use) About an hour later I've got quite the buzz, and sleep well. ## I was told 800mg is the max dosage however I don't know your history. I was on 25mg for 7 years and it worked better then than my.200mg I now take.for bipolar. It is an amazing drug once your body gets used to it. My dr explained it like a shotgun shell. It is one pill that works differently on each person but works for depr...
I just started taking Seroquel for Anxiety and really bad Panic attacks. Can anyone tell me good things about this medication?? ## I've been taking Seroquel for almost a year, and it has changed my life for the better!! Stick with it, it will make you very sleepy at first, but you will get used to it and it is a life saver!! ## My doc tried me on 200 mg 3 times a day and they kick my ass. I took a bong outside at 6 in the morning, in my underwear. My son woke up and ask me what was wrong. I ran in the wall 4 times in a row. he sent me to bed and that the the last time I ever took them damn things. ## i started taking seroquil a few yrs ago for a sleep disorder-i couldnt shut my brain off at night. the dr started me on 100 mg and they did kick me, so i cut them in half, take 1 every ...
I want to know what would happen if Seroquel is prescribed to a man of 180lbs and this dosage is given to a woman of 110 pounds. ## The most that will happen is you will sleep for about 12 hours. I have taken 3 50mg at one time and I am still here no problems ## Drugs effect everyone differently, so even though you weigh more, what is an appropriate dose for one person is NOT necessarily safe for another person. When you doctor prescribes a certain dosage, they have to consider many factors, including medication tolerance. ## I take 500 mg of Seroquel for Bipolar, and al0so take 3 two milligrams of Xanax daily. (total of 6 mgs of xanax a day. The only thing bad about Seroquel is the potential for diabetes and EXTREME weight gain. ## i take 300mg of seroquel every night before bed .all i...
I am having trouble withdrawing from Seroquel. I used to take 100mg for sleep, but managed to bring my dosage down to 25mg. However, I started to have anxiety problems and went back to 50 mg. Since then I've been shaving the 50 mg pill down to 3/4 of a pill. However I get very tired and groggy. If I try to shave it down further I get anxiety that only improves when I take more seroquel. It seems like I have a choice between anxious and groggy. Do you have any suggestions for how I could get off of seroquel completely while minimizing the grogginess and/or anxiety? ## Have you consulted your doctor for assistance? Seroquel contains the active ingredient Quetiapine, which is an antipsychotic and a sudden cessation of any medication that has an effect on brain chemicals is going to cau...
hi, I've been taking quetiapine now for a number of years. I started out taking the extended release version of the drug for a couple of years, then was switched to the standard version around three years ago, as I suffer from insomnia, and cannot get to sleep without some kind of assistance, even where I haven't slept for days. I'm on 800mg per day, with 300 being taken during the day, and the remaining 500 being taken in the evening time. I suffer with paranoid type schizophrenia, and I do find that taking seroquel seems to keep the psychotic symptoms reduced to a manageable level. However, I've been suffering with side effects that include seizing up, where my whole body seems to contract, which can be extremely painful, I find breathing becomes a problem, and I can b...
Is schizophrenia a known side effect of seroquel? ## Seroquel contains the active ingredient Quetiapine. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, sedation and weight gain. You can read more on this drug here: Are there any other questions? ## I have been on seroquel for years and I have noticed that if I don't sleep well I feel nauseous the next day. Is that common for anyone else?
I was 1st prescribed seroquel when I entered treatment for alcohol addiction, anxiety, and depression. I am proud to say I am now 5-1/5 years sober and wondering if or why I still need to be on this medicine. I take 100mg @ night along w/ 50mg of Zoloft. My biggest concern is if I will ever get to sleep w/o aid ## If you've been taking them for years, actually even if you've just been taking one of them for years, then the best way to stop taking them would be to do a slow taper. Otherwise, they tend to cause rebound effects, so you may experience symptoms such as severe depression, insomnia, irritability and etc. Learn more Seroquel details here. Learn more Zoloft details here. If you do it that way, then there will most likely be a brief period of insomnia and some other mild ...
I was prescribed seroquel xr only for sleep 150 mg for about 3 to 4 years. Gained about 30 lbs Read on other forums there is no hope getting the weight off when you wean off the drug. Well not true for me anyway. I have been off for 3 months and have lost 16 lbs so far and not dieting. Nothing So wanted to give others hope that it is possible. ## Hi Donna Weikel, It's quite unfortunate that some prescription medications can cause weight gain, but at least you were able to lose the weight you gained while on Seroquel xr once you stopped taking it! Everyone's body is different so even though some people may not have luck with losing the weight, it doesn't mean that it will be that way for everyone. I'm sure your post will be very helpful to those currently dealing with wei...
I am trying to wean myself off of Seroquel. I started at 100mg and weaned myself down to 25. It was fine for a while until anxiety symptoms reoccurred. I am now taking about 3/4 of a 25 mg tablet by shaving it down with a file. I also take .5mg clonopin at night to curb anxiety. The problem is that I am waking up groggy and tired, which is weird because that never happened on the higher dose. But If I try to shave it back to half a pill, I can't sleep and experience bad anxiety. How can I get myself off of this stuff so that I don't get anxious and avoid the tiredness, that sometimes lasts all day? ## I made a mistake. I shave down 3/4 of a 50mg tablet, not 25. ## Your body does get used to anything you take for a long period of time, even if you don't abuse it. This is perf...
MANY PEOPLE DONT LIKE SEROQUEL. THE REASON IS THAT THEY TRY TO USE IT RECREATIONALLY. IF YOU USE IT FOR WHAT YOUR SUPPOSED TO, [LIKE ME AND MY INSOMNIA] IT REALLY WORKS WELL. ## if seroquel is used for mental problems and also insomnia how does it work recreational. Dont understand, i have just being put on seroquel and really dont know much, please help, brian ## It actually is prescribed to me for insomnia. At night I have racing thoughts. Seroquel shuts my head off so I can sleep. If you do have schizophrenia or bipolar disorder then you may not feel these effects of tiredness and dizzyness. But when you don't, it knocks you out. I have many friends that know I am prescribed to it and they used to always ask me for some. People like to feel tired and woozy I suppose. Hope this wa...
