Diarrhea is a normal side effect of antibiotics, as reported by the FDA. (Pliva lists this tablet as containing 250mgs of Azithromycin.) If you stop taking it, before finishing your course of treatment, you create the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria and you may not fully eradicate the infection. All sorts of bacteria (infection or not) can pass itself along during sexual intercourse. For this reason protection is just as important in this case as it is when avoiding pregnancy. (Plive 334) Metronidazole is used in the treatment of diverticulitis; bacterial infection, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginitis, and more. I wouldn't recommend using it however unless you have no other means of protection and you are aware that this other individual does have an infection of some sort.
