No, these should not be taken together, because the Dextromethorphan in the Mucinex DM can elevate the levels of serotonin. That coupled with the Effexor creates the risk of your developing serotonin syndrome, which can be fatal. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Effexor as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and dry mouth. It would be best to ask your doctor what would be safe for you to take. compare use and effectiveness of maxiphen & musinex ## It really depends on the brand of Mucinex you get, because some packages contain Guaifenesin + Phenylephrine; while the standard brand of Maxiphen already contains both of these. I think the standard Mucinex only contains Guaifenesin from what I can tell (there are many different variations of Mucinex/D/DM/DM For Kids/etc). Some also contain a different combination of Guaifenesin + Dextromethorphan (kids version). That said, there are no differences between these two medications, since they both "can" contain the same active ingredient(s) depending on which one you choose. I purchased mine at Price Chopper.

Large, white, round pill. One side blank. Other side top of pill has a letter "C" then a (scored breakable line) under that is the number 25. I thought it could be Musinex. Not sure, however.. Have been sick for awhile an my bf gave it to me. He said it was musinex but got it from a prescribed bottle.
