How Long Does Morphine Iv Take To Work
31 Topics FoundThey gave my mom 4mg of morphine in her iv. How long do the effects last, ## Hi jen, According to nhtsa.gov, morphine is said to have a short half-life of 1.5 to 7 hours. They go on to note that close to ninety percent of a single morphine dose is excreted through urine within 72 hours. However, on the contrary, a different report coming from nih.gov states that morphine has a "plasma" (blood) half-life of 2.5 to 3.0 hours. So when it comes to IV administration, this is probably the half-life I'd refer to for a more accurate estimate. Though this is mostly speculative, it's been thought that after 3 half-life's, a medication like this is typically out of your body / no longer working to relieve pain. There are also other important factors that can determine how long ...
I take 145mg of methadone daily .my question is this.i just took 60mg of morphine will i feel it i do no other drugs. this is the first time ive used anything but methadone in 2 years ## Unfortunately, in any medical situation, a patient has to be their own best advocate. Doctors often prescribe medications according to their experience with how well something has worked for other patients. There really isn't a direct answer to your question, as no one can tell you how you would react to Morphine. Since medications can affect everyone differently, some people get great results from taking it, but there are others that it doesn't work for. I do know based on research that Methadone is considered to be 3-4 times stronger than oral Morphine (oxymorphone). And given the high dose of...
ive been on 100mgs of methadone for a year and am unable to get to my clinic next week. i have some 100mg morphine pills from an old prescription. how much morphine should i take per day when ive been used to 100mgs of methadone per day? ## I'm currently on 135mg methadone and missed the clinic today but have to work tonight. How many 30mg morphine tablets would I need to be without withdrawal at work tonight? ## It takes 4-5 30mg extend release tabs to help me. But they last for 8-10 hrs usually. I was on 90 mg of done for about 2 years. Recently started going to the clinic again ## @JD & Bell22, Because no two drugs are created equally, there is no one-size fits all approach to determining proper pain management protocol and drug equivalency between any medications. In regards...
Started morphine pills for back pain 30 mg I took it at 9 p.m. It didn't kick in until 12:15...3 hours for reaction? As well, really strong as far as that feeling of "tightness" throughout neck arms etc. Instead of pain relief & anility to sleep, I feel the need to stay awake and monitor breathing. In the hospital this RX would work much faster and stiffness was less ability to slep was fine. Is it the form (pill v.s. IV)??? Thanks side effect feels worse than pain go figure any suggestions on pain med for pm that does not do this? ## Hello, Lola! How are you? Morphine can cause joint pain and stiffness in some people that take it, so the form it's given in may not be relevant, you may have just hit the point where this side effect has kicked in for you. The problem ...
Ive taken small doses of opiods before, and one 15mg abg, but not on a regular basis. I was just wondering how long tye effects will last, amd when it is safe to drink. And what are warning signs I should look out for? I think im going to be ok though. ## IThe drug is morphine sulfate extended-release, generic for MS Contin 15 mg tablets. It is odd you would be prescribed an extended-release medication if you are only taking it occasionally. MS Contin (and its generics) are used for people requiring continuous pain relief and is taken every 12 hrs. MS Contin Extended Release lasts 12 hrs so that xx mg does of morphine is being slowly released rather than the full dose working immediately (but lasting only 4-6 hrs). MS Contin is NOT intended to be taken as needed so it may be a large enou...
I have taken ns contin 60mg 4x a day for abot 10 years and roxicodone 15mg 4 x day for break through pain but it has got to where its not working now so what othwr medication do i have as another option ## Hello, Linda! How are you? Well, there are higher doses of both of these medications available. Additionally, there is a time released formulation of Oxycodone available, it's called Oxycontin and is stronger than the Morphine in the MS contin. Learn more Oxycontin details here. There is also a patch that contains Fentanyl, it is stronger than both the Morphine and the Oxycodone. Learn more Fentanyl details here. These are narcotic analgesics, so they have the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipatio...
kidney stones ## For anyone else seeking such information, the preferred medication in most hospitals for IV pain relief now is Dilaudid, which contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone. It is very potent and can be habit forming, it may also cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Learn more Dilaudid details here. Are there any questions or comments? ## I have a question I am on liquid Oxycodone cause I can't take pills because I had weight loss surgery and they don't absorb correctly so I am on liquid Oxycodone and it works good cept its not lasting the time frame that its supposed to my question is my Dr is having me do a trail pain pump and I wanna know how much difference their is between the iv side affects and then pain pu...
So I've been in the hospital for a while. I've used Dilaudid for roughly about 13 or 14 days through my pic line and IV . So they unsubscribed me to it but they say I can have Morphine. The Morphine isn't helping much and the pain was a 7-10 on a scale of pain and 10 being the worse. How long will it take till I can't take Morphine and it helps cause it really hasn't helped? I don't know what's wrong with me yet, but the pain does come back and fourth to a 5-7. ## What was the dosage of the Dilaudid and what is the dosage of the Morphine? There are two possible problems here, the first is that you may not be on an equivalent dose of the Morphine and the second is that it just may not work for you. Learn more Morphine details here. Not every medication works f...
Just been diagnosed with pancreatic, liver and lung cancer. 55 y.o. The suboxone no longer works, and my oncologist wants me on traditional pain meds. How long does suboxone @ 16mgs for 4 months take to wear off? I am in severe pain, not taking suboxone, taking norco...doc wants me on morphine. I need to know as chemo starts next week ## Did you get an answer yet, or did your doctor figure it out for you? It's really the Naloxone in the Suboxone that's problem, since it neutralizes other opiates. Learn more Suboxone details here. Learn more Morphine details here. ## You have no idea what youre talking about i have been taking suboxone for 6 years now. Naloxone is only to discourage iv use of suboxone has nothing to do with neutralizing other opioids. Thats why you are supposed t...
My pain Dr. Writes 5 8mg. Dilaudid plus 1 60mg. Avinza 1every 24 hrs. time released morphine, I have been on the dilaudid 4-5 yes. Seems they don't work as well as they used to. What I do take would keep most people from sedated but I still have some pain and can't seem to do much with or without my meds. any suggestions? ## Sorry to hear about your challenges with pain. If I could suggest anything that might be of help, it would be to include natural treatment options that can safely be used alongside your medication(s) as a sort of adjunctive therapy. Depending on what type of pain your dealing with, I do know that some medical marijuana clinics offer a CBD/THC 50/50 concentrate that your spray a few times in your mouth and it helps relieve a very noticeable amount of pain in ...
need info on 8mg dilaudid and what might be a good medication for breakthrough pain while taking this med every 2 hours. please help. ive been on oxycontin & roxycodone and cant find them anymore thats why i changed to dilaudid. please help. ## Opana Ir Or Er im sure an Opana 40 Er would would cover your pain if not try Morphine, I prefer morphone. Hydro-morphone= dilaudid. Oxy-morphone=Opana. I say Opana is ATLEAST equal to an Oc 80. Fentayln patches also work great as well as liquid Morphine Sulfate. Mainly for Iv but can be ingested. ## YEs, if you're on the regular release formulation, you may want to ask your doctor about using the time release formulation for longer pain control. As was already mentioned, it's called Opana ER. Does anyone else have any ideas to add? ##...
Ive been on suboxin for just over a year. ive never had an acne problem before but in the last 6 months im always breaking out. has anyone else had this problem. ## I've never taken Suboxone, but I have had it happen with both Oxycodone and Morphine. Nothing worked to clear it up, until I stopped taking them, either. Learn more Suboxone details here. How severe are the breakouts? Have you spoken to your doctor about them?
Im want to kick my opiate addiction! I want to know how much suboxone will i need to take a day? Does it really work? How much does it cost?...etc... Ive been taking opiates for 10 years but only everyday for the past 4 years. I take 100mg-150mg of morphine or 20-30mg of methadone a day. I tried to quit cold turkey by slowly weaning myself down for about 2 weeks to nothing. What a mistake that was, even after 7 days of not taking anything i was just as sick as i was on day 1. I thought about getting on the methadone clinic but its too much of a hassle for me. I also dont want anyone to know about my addition, kinda hard to do when you need to go to the clinic everyday. I heard suboxone is expensive is it really worth it? I can live without being "high" but i cannot live threw th...
Hello Lyrica has always worked well. at one time in my life @ 3 years ago I was takinf it with no opiates. I was having killer leg pain after 10 days post facet injectins in my lumbar spine. ive been in pain mgmnt for 15yrs. taken of percs(longterm use causing liver failure) put on roxys. have been on 30's for several yrs now. They work without making me high or woozy. LVPI has stopped prescribing eff jan 1. Are there any dr's not afraid of DEA? Morphine..dilaudid etc make me loopy. with bleeding ulcers..percs etc are out of the question..HELP ## Unfortunately, no one can really know ahead of time what a doctor is or is not willing to prescribe, as that is based on the doctor's discretion and not on someone else's previous appointment (especially since many doctor's are still worried about losing their licensing for prescribing too many narcotics). I'm sure there's still a good percentage out there who will drift from the pack and prescribe whate...
ive been on every pain medication I can think of.none of them work.my docter no longer knows what to give me.im in constant terrible pain. ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? I am so very sorry that you're in so much pain. The strongest that is currently available would be Fentanyl, it is over 80 times stronger than Morphine. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Have you consulted a specialist? You may do better with a pain pump or spinal stimulator that are constantly working.
im 23 years old i broke my back at age 15 iv taken hydrocodone from the time of my injury. Thay no longer work as well as thay did. what should someone my age do. How dose factor in on someone that in going to be on pain pills for life? ## It is normal for your body to get used to the dosage you are taking, after you have been on it for a prolonged period of time. Once this occurs, you will usually require a dosage adjustment or switch to a different medication. As to what you can do, you need to speak to your doctor regarding what your other treatment options are. There are other medications on the market that you can use, such as Morphine: or Oxycodone: As well as many others. I am very sorry to read of what you are going through at such a young age, but if the problem cannot be fixed...
I was given a dose of taradol, 2mg morphine and dexamethasone through IV to help with pain due to a flare up from my ulcerative colitis. It's helped a lot but not completely. Now I'm wondering how long will this last? I have a long drive and work before my GI appt. f.u. I'm hoping to remain comfortable for at least the next day and a half. Pls help?
Filed under ToradolFetanyl is a great pain medication but it is used primarily for major pain: i.e. IV's or post op surgical pain pump med (if morphine or dilaudid does not work) and/ or to get extremely acute pain under control. Cancer patients use the Fetanyl lollipops for break thru pain and it is one of those medications that I am glad to know is out there but I would avoid using it because for those of us with chronic pain that take meds daily for years and have built up a tolerance to pain meds. We need to have something that offers relief if pain escalates or if major surgery is needed. It can be difficult to get pain relief if you find should develop pain that is a level 7 or higher that is unrelenting. The IV's, pumps (after surgery or end of life pain) with Fetanyl are great, but I did n...
