How Long Does It Take To Get Your Potassium Level Back Up

I have been told to go on a low potassium diet after my blood test came back. I have no kidney issues. After researching high potassium foods I realized that I do have a diet high in potassium. My Dr. wants to retest in 5 days and I am to be on a low potassium diet. I would like to know how long potassium remains in the body. I currently started taking Magnesium Potassium, Grape Seed Extract & Garlic 1000 mg to control my BP. My doctor prescribed me Losartan 25 mg. Can I take all the meds above together? ## The only concern that I found listed by the FDA is that Losartan can also increase your potassium levels, so it shouldn't be taken with extra potassium, unless your doctor specifically okays it. I take amlodipine in the morning for high bp and a water pill, at night I take Losartan and Lorazepham and I am on flexeril and 5mg of percocet 3x day for back pain. My BP is so high at night I can feel the heart beat in my fingertips and i lay awake for hours. I read where if I take potassium at night it will help to lower my BP. Diabetic- stage 4 kidney failure on 40 mg Lasix daily 80 meq Potassium Chloride ER daily. Seems like a lot of Potassium. Doctor won't talk to me about it just tells me to take it. ## The medication Lasix is used to help remove excess fluid from the body, but while doing so, it also tends to remove potassium, which is why such supplements are often prescribed along with it. 80meq is not really that high of a dose. I started bystolic (5mg, now up to 10) a couple weeks ago. I got a test result of a high potassium level, which I know requires attention. I took supplements before all this started, but stopped immediately when I was put on meds. My dr says bystolic would not have caused this, more likely it was the supplements. Hi I have been on 20 meq 3 times a day for a week. My potassium levels were at 2.2 at the time the doctor prescribed them for me. I am on 20 mg of lasix a day for kidney issues. I am going back to doc next week for more blood work. Do you think my levels will be increased greatly? ## They should improve over the week, but there's no way to say how much. I've generally found them to work very fast, though. The FDA warns that they can be very hard on the stomach, so they should be taken with food. As to the low potassium levels, Lasix has been known to cause that, so you might want to ask your doctor about switching to a potassium sparing diuretic. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was at work one day and my blood pressure dropped to 75/43 so I went to the hospital because I'm normally very healthy and I didn't feel right. So the doctor ran tests and said I have low potassium but didn't say how low just gave me a prescription to take one pill a day of potassium chloride 10meq for 14 days. I take salt tablets during exercise due to the heat in the tropics & sweating. They have Potassium in them, they stop me cramping.
