You said you did not have a BM, but also say it gave you severe diarrhea, and diarrhea is having a BM, even though it is runny and likely not your usual consistency. Can you please clarify? Did you make sure to take it correctly, which is a half hour, before eating, or drinking anything else? Diarrhea can be a normal side effect of Linzess, along with nausea, cramping, and flatulence.
I have Hyperparathyroid Disease and have suffered with severe constipation for several years, caused by high Calcium levels. I recently became severely impacted and had a procedure in my Dr's office that was excruciatingly painful to de-impact me. He put me on Lizness 145 mg and it has helped me to have regular, pain free bowel movements every day. I was so relieved! Can I stay on Lizness for a long period of time safely? I feel like it is a miracle drug for me. ## You can stay on it for as long as your doctor feels it is safe for you to do so. The FDA does warn that it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, stomach cramping, flatulence, and diarrhea. How long can you take linzess?? Can you take it for a long period of time??? ## Hello, Patty! How are you? Has this been prescribed for you? If so, how is it working for you? Some people had good results with it for the first week or 2, then it seemed to stop working for them. There appears to be no set treatment time frame, according to the FDA information, though most evaluation trials were for 12 weeks periods. However, your doctor would be the best judge of how long you can safely take it. Typical side effects may include nausea, bloating and diarrhea. It should also be taken on an empty stomach, at least a half hour before eating.
I was prescribed Linzess for my IBS-C. I have been taking Linzess for two days now and very bloated with no bowel movement. From what I had read, it would work rather quickly, but for me that is not the case. I took one 145 mcg the first morning as directed and 2 of the 145 mcg the second morning and still nothing. How long does it usually take before I will start seeing results. I have the urge to have a bowel movement, but nothing is produced. Any advise will be appreciated. ## Hello, CJ! How are you doing? Has it worked, yet? There's really no way to give a time frame, it can vary from person to person. Some people have good luck with it, some don't. One person posted recently that it was only resting in one BM a week for them. Have you consulted your doctor for advice? ## I ...

And I also have cramping and pain with bloating towards the end of the day. ## Hello, BRead! How are you? I have a back problem and am taking pain meds that constipated me. Filling up until impaction and then blasting it out with potassium citrate, etc. Under the Doctor's guidance I reduced the pain meds and started Linzess. I did a clean out and then started the Linzess 3 days ago. So far nothing, no BM. I am on the 145 dosage. How long does it take this medication to work? I am taking it on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before breakfast. ## Hello, John! How are you? Usually, people see results with first dosing. Are you taking it with water? You may need to try to higher dose. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, weight loss, bloating and diarrhea.
I have been on the 145 dose of Linzess for several years now, and it was like a miracle drug. No side effects, and for the first time in 30 years, regular BMs. The past few months have not been so great, though. Constipation, bloating and cramps have returned. I saw my Gastro a few weeks ago, and she upped my dosage to the 290. No change. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? So frustrating! ## Unfortunately, many people have reported the same experience, though the amount of time have varied. Are you making sure to take it with a full glass of water, at least half an hour, before eating or drinking anything else, as directed by the FDA? The bloating and cramps can be side effects of this medication, but it usually causes diarrhea, rather than constipation. Are you on any other ...

Hello, I have been on Hysingla and Norco now for a few years due to chronic back pain and multiple medical issues. I had been on Linzess for 2 years and it worked at first but not any longer and I also have IBS. My Gastro doctor gave me a script today to start Movantik ( I can't take my Linzess for 2 days before I start these ) I would like to know what other people are experiencing on this drug, constipation has become a big problem for me and I really want these to work. I would appreciate any input from others on their experience with it, Thanks so much. ## Hello, Donna! How are you? Have you started taking it, yet? As with any medication, there are people it works great for, but some don't have great results with it. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly includi...
I have been on Linzess 145 mg for a month. it worked great the first 2 weeks and now it just stopped. I don't know if my body got use to it already or what could cause it. ## Hello, Marci! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having. Actually, that has been a very common complaint from people that have tried it. Have you been taking it on an empty stomach? ## Yes I've been taking it on an empty stomach & I've even doubled the dosage & it doesn't work. I'm confused (since my doctor did not clarify).... I've been taking Linzess for 2 months. Is this a forever pill? Do patients typically have a set amount of time or trial time to see if it's working for them... Just unsure if I should continue with this or if there's an end to taking Linzess in my foreseeable future. It has helped. Having insurance issues / billing claim issues so I haven't been able to go back to the prescribing doctor. Also since being diagnosed with IBS-C, I went gluten free and I'm having success with the stomach cramps. Any info would be greatly appreciated. The Rx ran out today... which means I would be technically stopping it cold turkey tomorrow. Not sure this is a good thing or bad. Not really wanting to stay on it forever anyways though...
I started taking the low dose now I take too of them a day...only had one bowel movement when I started ...don't know what to do not #help ## Hello, Terri! How are you? It seems that some people weren't told that by their doctor or pharmacist. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, bloating and diarrhea. ## Exactly right. That is how my doctor instructed me and it works, usually within an hour. ## Hi Terri, Linzess stopped working for me as well after about a year. One thing that did help me while on it was after taking it in the morning with a big glass of water, I would waite about 15 mins and drink a 6 ...
I was on Amitiza 24 mcg twice a day and Miralax was switched to Linzess 3 weeks ago. I am having so many issues, feeling lightheaded a couple hours after taking it in the morning and very bloated and have not had a normal BM. A few days without anything and then diarrhea. I think I am going to switch to before dinner and take Miralax before bed. What is the opinion? ## This medication should be taken in the morning, at least half an hour, before ingesting anything else. The Side effects that you've experienced are listed as being normal ones, according to the FDA, you may also experience nausea, and stomach pain. It is not as effective, if taken later in the day, after you've already eaten throughout the day, so it is best to follow the manufacturers instructions. Is there anyth...
I see you didn't get any answers I was just wondering how long you taking linzess and did you get ahead of the parasite issues? I'm having a lot of gastrointestinal issues in the doctors don't seem to care that I didn't have proof that I have parasites. Let me know if you can how things worked out with taking linzess and getting ahead of parasites. ## Hello, Tova! How are you? Since you didn't post this in response to a specific post, I am afraid I have to ask you for clarity. What parasite issues were you referring to? Linzess is most commonly used to chronic constipation and the FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. ## Sorry I thought I had posted this specifically to someone who would talked about...
I have been taking Amitza for about 4 months. Works great but over time getting extremely tired and sharp pains throughout body. I'm in process of trying to loose weight as well giving up dairy, red meats, and carbs. Switched to linzess three days ago. Reading posts that worry me about weight gain. Can you clear up the subject on weight gain and which drug works best? I've had issues for 19 years and tried everything. These medications both work for me but I need to have energy, no sharp pains and no weight gain. ## I added a multi-vitamin and b-12 supplement to help with energy. So far I'm doing okay. Been on Linzess for a week. It only started to work for me yesterday. Best of luck to you! ## @Kgirl, Posted below is a link to another active discussion thread here relating t...
I have been on Linzess for about 9 months. It was working really well until about a month ago. Now my stools are like small rocks and hard to pass. I sometimes go several times a day but only small amounts at a time. I take 290mcgs every morning at least 30 minutes before I eat. It's usually over an hour before I eat anything. I do drink coffee or Diet Dr Pepper. Can you think of a reason why I'm having problems? ## Hello, Kaye! How are you? Your body might just have become tolerant to the medication, this happens to everyone after having taken something for awhile, for some people one medication may last for years, but for others they can become tolerant much sooner. Linzess has also not been successful for everyone that's tried it, quite a few people reported that it didn...
I am on Linzess 7 days now had 1 bowel movement after 1sst dose of 290 mg Is it save to continue taking it ## Hello, Sheila! How are you? It would be best to follow your doctor's instructions for whether or not to continue it. Most people do experience bowel movements, shortly after taking it, but it does not work for everyone. Have you made sure to take it on an empty stomach, at least a half hour, before eating or drinking anything else? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, bloating, and diarrhea. ## I have been taking 290 mg linzess for15 days and still nothing should I keep taking it
I just took my first dose of Linzess 145 and like the others posted...within 2 hrs of taking it (I took it on an empty stomach 30 minutes before breakfast) I had noticeable bloating and gas within an hr and it was working full on within 2 hrs. The entire experience seemed to work itself out within 3.5 hrs. Very unpleasant 3.5 hrs but now everything seems to have calmed down. Not ideal..but can Linzess just be taken every few days? 2-3 times per week? If it always has this effect it seems I would be able to manage calendar to allow for the time it needs and still be able to fully function the rest of the time. ## I was told by my gastro to take it when I need it. If you take it daily and it gives you diarrhea and you are purging your large GI tract to the point water comes out after, the...
