I don't like the way I feel. Dizzy at times, stomach problems, constipated and dry mouth. ## How long have you been taking it and why was it prescribed? Those can be normal side effects, you may experience headache and diarrhea. However, since this is used to treat heart conditions, you shouldn't stop it, without your doctor's approval. Are you on any other medications?

I am want ing to stop use of this medicine. Wish to have ways of doing so. All at once or day by day Thanks ## Mellaril is an antipsychotic drug, so coming of it cold turkey and without a doctors supervision and assistance can be very dangerous. I suggest speaking to your doctor about the best way to stop this medication. In addition, if you have been on it for awhile, then your body had become dependent on the drug and you will experience withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking it abruptly.

can you stop it immediately or taper off ## Hi Pat, Due to the number of complaints regarding withdrawal symptoms associated with Lyrica, I would highly recommend that you taper off this dangerous drug instead of stopping it abruptly. Usually for drugs like this the safest way to stop taking them is to tapper off them, if possible. Some medications can be taken in fractions (actually cut into pieces) and these smaller pieces can be taken in place of the regular dose for a period of several weeks until the body is no longer dependent upon them. It may also be a good idea to talk to your doctor or pharmacist about writing up a tapering schedule for you on a calendar to give you an idea of how long it might take before you can safely stop taking it. I hope this helps! ## Hi Pat, I have bee...

I'm on 75 mg methadone and I want to stop on my own because it seems my counselor wants me on forever. Can I do it myself being on an anxiety med? ## T Chang, it is very difficult 4 a lot of people 2 taper off of methadone on their own. It should b done slowly and under supervision. I was on (110) of methadone and got down to (24). I was in such bad withdrawals, I thought I was going 2 die. I ended up at my Doctors in tears. He put me on suboxone that day and I felt so much better. Anyway, I REALY WOULDNT recommend u doing it your self. ## P.S. U have the right 2 get off the methadone if u want. Just let you're Doctor or counselor know when u r ready. They will taper u down the right way. So, u won't go through bad withdrawals. ## Are you on methadone or have you come off it...

I've been on Lisimopril for 4 months and all my hair is falling out I'm so sad by this. Im stopping the meds and seeing my doc. I'm searching for a natural way to control your BP. Will my hair grow back and what alternatives can the doctors give me. I'm very scared and worry about my hair loss and side affects from stopping the meds. ## Hello, Joanna! How are you doing? I strongly urge you not to stop it cold turkey, because doing so creates the risk of dangerously elevated blood pressure and heart rate, which could lead to health problems, such as heart attack or stroke, as reported by the FDA. And yes, there are other options available that your doctor can prescribe, over 100 of them, actually, so I can't possibly list them all. It's really just a matter of tri...

I take 15 mg morphine 3 times a day. It's not helping anymore and I was told to not just stop taking it. How should I work my way off of it? ## You may need a higher dosage, or to try a different medication. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as constipation, dry mouth, headache, nausea, and dizziness. If you really want to stop taking it, a slow taper is best and your doctor should be able to help you set up a proper and safe schedule for doing so. Are you on any other medications?

I have been on Bisocor 10mg for a number of years and have discovered by chance the bad affect on my breathing it caused. I need to stop taking it but understand it must be done slowly. How slow should that be? ## Hi Leetjie, Sorry to hear about the challenges you've been facing with this medication. From what I understand, usually for drugs like this, the safest way to stop taking them is to tapper off them "under a doctor's supervision"; if possible. Some medications can be taken in fractions (actually cut into pieces) and these smaller pieces can be taken in place of the regular dose for a period of several weeks until the body is no longer dependent upon them. However, due to the severe nature of withdrawals, in my honest opinion, it would be wise to discuss a taperi...

I've been taking Eliquis for a couple months after a bout of a-fib. I'm back in sinus rhythm and am in the low risk (Cat 1) group for clots. Due to the side effects and cost, I want to stop Eliquis and take aspirin daily. But the FDA black box warning makes me scared to stop Eliquis. Is tapering the dose over time a good way to get off it safely? IS there a safe way, or is it a scare tactic to have me pay for Eliquis for the rest of my life? I'm really angry - if I'd known about the FDA warning, I'd never have agreed to take it in the first place. ## I was on Elequis for 2 years. I needed to go off of it. My doctor said to just go off of it cold turkey. I did. Have been off of it for a month. ## In reality, this medication is usually just stopped, cold turkey, as Jo ...

My marriage is in 2 days and my menstrual cycle started in spite of taking medicine to temporarily stop it. What to do? I'm concerned. ## The best method to stop your period is to take contraceptives or birth control. Before you take you should see your gynecologist or local doctor who will give you advice on which type will ideal suit your requirements. Your doctor will describe what to be expecting, what dosage to take, and also any risks involved. Birth control pills inhibit fertilization and ovulation. They can be in a patch form, IV or oral. The best way to stop periods is to use oral contraceptives in pill form. These pills must be taken one cycle before the period that you do not want to have. When consumed on a regular basis as directed, you will stop getting periods. Once y...

I have been taking way too much gabapentin for several years now. I started taking it to help alleviate withdrawal symptoms from suboxone. Then I started taking more and more and found out that stopping gabapentin has its own terrible withdrawal. I take about twenty 600mg gabapentin pills a day. More or less depending on how much I have. When I run out the withdrawal is pretty bad but what's worse is that it lasts way too long. It takes at least the days to get through the worst of it. I could just really use some help. Does suboxone help alleviate gabapentin/lyrica withdrawal symptoms? ## A slow taper is usually the best and safest way to stop, since an abrupt withdrawal could create the risk of seizures, according to the FDA, along with nausea, fever, chills, anxiety, rebound pain...

I have been taking 10mg citalopram for 3 days, want to stop, bad headaches feel exhausted, swelling under my tongue, can i just stop or do I need to do this gradually? ## If it's only been 3 days, you can stop, if you feel more comfortable doing it gradually break them in half and take a half for 2 more days. I have been tapering off 40 mgs of Paxil and I decided to just stop and got extremely sick. So now I'm taking 20's, then 10's... then I'll stop. 10 mg's of Citalopram for 3 days has not gotten all the way into your system. It takes 4-6 weeks for an antidepressant to start working fully and be in your system to the point where it is going to be affective. I suggest stopping or calling your doctor to stop. I did not like Citalopram either. In fact I have not f...

Are you on any other medications? What dosage of Zolfresh have you been taking? ## I have been taking zolfresh 5 mg and now it has gone up to 20 mg and i want to slowly taper off. It's been a while and now i feel like i have to stop taking it and start fresh.

I am prescribed it for sleep and racing obsessive thoughts started 25 going to 50 should it help me ## Hi, Theresa! How are you? How long have you been taking it? It usually takes medications like this about 4 to 6 weeks to reach their full level of effectiveness in your body. That's usually about the same time you notice any side effects you're experiencing reach their peak in intensity and then start to taper off in severity. Learn more Seroquel details here. What is the best way to stop taking Librax for a sleepy senior citizen and long-time Librax user? ## Hello, Tara! How are you? Has the patients doctor instructed them to stop taking it? After being on it for so many years, it is likely best to do a gradual taper, by slowly lowering the dose, while skipping doses. Their doctor should be able to help them set up a proper taper schedule. As listed by the FDA, a sudden stop could result in rebound effects, such as abdominal pain, cramping and constipation.

Unethical failure to adequately treat pain continues after years of consideration of same as unethical. What can we DO? These are real people doing real suffering. I know how to get what I need but only because of medical/pharmacological sophistication coupled with a wonderful primary care MD.. MD's tell patients DEA won't allow it... Patients adhere to old myths (like the woman who couldn't get oxycodone but was AFRAID to use the morphine prescribed because of a long-discarded mythology as well as the advent of very effective SR morphine formulations which make it less dangerous than aspirin. ## Unfortunately, I don't think there will be any way to stop these problems, until such a time as people stop abusing such medications.
