class work -however i am having trouble finding this ## VA had me on methadone for over 15 years. ..volunteered for methadone cessation with the VA because I kept going into DTs because USPS/UPS kept delaying my meds. Sometimes it would take a week to get my RX. ....then, when I dropped below 25mg, the cramps diarrhea and associated pain was causing me to be suicidal. I can't get a doctor's referral because VA doctors don't work with "outside" doctors. Of course, they won't allow me to withdraw from the program now. My God, I wish I were dead. Is there any hope for me? The CDC(? ) are on a witch-hunt now for any doctors giving narcotics to patients who are not considered terminal now. I had a surgery in 1998 for "smashed" disks found during the surgery and after trying every narcotic known to man, I obtained immediate relief with methadone. I was on it for 15 years until the recent government fiasco, which IMHO had no business interfering as no one knows but the patient and their primary doctor just how severe the pain is. I have no clue why methadone works so well and other even more powerful narcotics don't, and for 15 years I lead a rather normal life. I have been on methadone for 7 years now. Up until I started taking it I had perfect teeth, never even a cavity, and rarely went to the dentist. Now for the past 4 years my teeth have started breaking, getting cavities at the gum line, and severe tooth aches. My dentist seems to think I have an eating disorder and that is why my teeth are the way they are. If i take two norcos 5/325 with my 60 mg dose of methadone, will i feel it? ## Nope probably not. I never do "feel it" but if you are looking for pain control it still works better than tylenol/Advil with the methadone. I have been taking Methadone for two years, but i want to get off of this medication and start taking Suboxone. Can I take Suboxone a day after I took my methadone? If not, can I take pain killers to help with the methadone withdraws until I start taking the suboxone? ## No, in order to start Suboxone, whether for drug addiction, or for pain, you have to be in full active withdrawal from all other narcotics. Suboxone contains the active ingredients Buprenorphine and Naloxone. The Naloxone helps neutralize other opiates to prevent their abuse, when someone is using it for addiction treatment. If you take it too close to the time period you are taking other narcotic analgesics, it can throw you into dangerous withdrawals. Was in rehab in the past under court order so finding a Dr. that will give narcotics for my pain has been close to impossible. Want to get pain meds from Dr. not from street. Anyone know a doctor who is sympathetic to chronic pain patients around Traverse City, MI. area? ## You might want to contact a lawyer to see if your states reports people who have been in rehab by the state and if people are flagged and how a doctor would get that information. Sometimes this information is not shared between agency's. For example I don't know how your doctor would know unless you are flagged by your state monitoring program. I have been on 100mg. of methadone for 5 years now and am going to be in hospital for and am going to need some serious pain medication. I know from previous experience that other pain meds do not work and take away pain when you have been taking methadone. I was robbed and ALL my scripts were stolen. I went a whole month without my Percs 15s and OC 40s. I finally went to a methadone clinic. Been on for 3 weeks at 60 mgs now and got my script back yesterday for my Percs and OCS so I didn't dose today and OMG the withdrawals are starting and they are bad. If you're on Methadone can you still take Suboxone safely? ## NO! They are both very strong narcotics, it is not safe to take both. In addition, Suboxone also contains Naloxone, which neutralizes other opiates. This is done to prevent people from still trying to get high off of other narcotics while they are under Suboxone treatment. ## Also it will put you into IMMEDIATE withdrawals...so DO NOT DO IT!!!! ## So true I went into acute withdrawals. Thorough education by my Pain Management Board Certified Doctor, and his Physician Assistant. The reason Doctor's like Methadone, is it reacts dually as both a traditional narcotic pain reducer, as well as working on NERVE pain. Very few narcotics work on Nerve pain. Usually you have to add Lyrica, or a step therapy drug such as gabapentin or Topamax. So its two birds with one stone. Also, methadone, at therapeutic doses, is lower in amount necessary to work, hence less side effects, including brain fog, dopy, or constipation.This is the same reason Pain Specialists prescribe (or did) Oxycodone. I'm on 75mg methadone maintenance. I accidentally took a 500mg cipro. Just one. Will I go into withdrawels ## I've never heard of cipro causing withdrawals. Cipro is an antibiotic used for a number of different infections. Have you read about cipro and methadone? I mean, read about them not interacting well together? Concomitant use can result in an increased risk of central nervous system depression, which can result in lowered breathing rate, lowered heart rate and lowered blood pressure. I’ve really been struggling when my methadone dose went from 100 mg to 40mg. Barely does anything except I’m not violently ill. I have this "screw it all" attitude and am taking other narcotics instead. Not easy to find. My question is...what can I do to get decently priced help? It's not just methadone it's all narcotics. Florida won't fill any narcotic. Believe me we've tried. We next day air the script to our family in minneapolis, they go to our pharmacy for us, fill and ship back to us. I have been on percocet (10mg) 5xday, Oxycontin (80mg x2 & 40mgx1 a day), Motrin 800mg 4x a day, Soma 350mg 4x a day for YEARS. I WANT OFF - how do I control the chronic pain that started all this?
