Taking it when it isn't needed, or if you don't have enough to take a full course of treatment, could cause you to develop antibiotic resistant bacteria. Additionally, if you do have a dental abscess, this will not help with the underlying problem, so you will still need to see a dentist as soon as possible, or the infection will just reoccur.
