The way their system reacts/responds to many types of drugs can be vastly different from what we perceive as normal, so it's better to be overly safe than take even a slight risk with our pets. Something else worth noting is that if the cream isn't used properly, one of its active ingredients (Betamethasone - a steroid) may make some skin conditions worse off. I've been treated for rosacea but the cream that my dermatologist gave me did nothing. Can this work for me? I can't get to Mexico. ## Your local swap meet or any Mexican stores (not like north gate or anything like that ) ## @Shari, From what I've read, two of Gelmicin's ingredients (Betamethasone + Gentamicin) appear to be available by prescription-only here in the US. Clotrimazole is also reportedly available OTC or via prescription depending on the dosage. Having said that, I think your best bet may be to make an appointment with a doctor and have he/she write you a script. You could then take that Rx to a (compounding) pharmacy to see if they'll be able to formulate something similar to Gelmicin per your doctor's request. Has this been confirmed by a doctor? I'd not recommend using this cream, without your doctor's approval, because one of the ingredients is a steroid, which may make some conditions worse. As listed by the FDA, it could also cause skin burning, irritation and rash. What pills did you try? What was the cream?

My husband used Gelmicin cream that we picked up from Mexico on a diabetic ulser he had on his toe for over a year that was cracking and taking a long time to heal but not infected. He used the Gelmicin cream on it and after 3 days it is healing fantastic, almost gone actually. I am looking for this cream in Alberta and so far no luck!!! I guess it will be a great reason to return to Mexico!! I RECEIVE A TUBE OF GELMICIN AND THE PERSON THAT GAVE IT TO ME SAID TO US IT ON TWO SPOTS THAT I HAD A BISOPSY DONE ON THAT WERE PRE CANCER. THIS PERSON SAID THAT IT HAS BEEN USED FOR THAT AND OTHER SKIN PROBLEMS AND HAS HEALED WITH IN A FEW DAYS. ## I was diagnosed with pre-skin cancer on my left cheek and the doc. believes I have it on the bridge of my nose. One of it's ingredients in a steroid, Betamethasone and steroids can actually wake up the virus and cause, or worsen breakouts, as reported by the U.S. FDA. To treat or prevent herpes outbreaks, she needs an antiviral medication. Her doctor can prescribe one for her in either a topical cream or to be taken orally.
