My dog has an ear infection and I have some bactrim ds that I couldn't take. I was wondering if he could take this medicine and what dosage would I give him? He weighs 23-25 lbs. ## Hi Kat, When it comes to potent antibiotics such as Bactrim, I feel it is vital to contact an experienced veterinarian who can assess the dog's condition in person first and then make an appropriate medical decision based off their evaluation. Just to add, Bactrim is in fact prescribed to dogs and cats alike for various types of infections. My only concern is that Bactrim tends to cause a lot of side effects in humans, so I can only hope that your dog has a positive response to it. If you have a moment, please post back on how things are going with treatment. ## How much bactrim should I give my 60lb...

I have a 12 lb chihuahua with an abscess from my dads senile dog biting her leg. I have no money right now for a vet. I do have smz-tmp da 800-160 mg tablets. I was wondering how much I should give her? Please help! ## Hello, Leah! How are you? Dogs can take this medication, generally, it's stated that they should be given 13mgs per pound of body weight every 24 hours and it usually works better if given twice a day, every 12 hours. However, this is a sulfa based medication, so its rate of allergic reactions it fairly high, so you really should not give it to her, without a veterinarian's approval. If you give it to her anyway and she suffers an allergic reaction, you could end up with a really huge vet bill. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, d...

80 lb dog = how much amoxicillin? ## I have 250mg Amoxicillin capsules, but my dog only needs 60mg. How would I handle this? Rocky weighs 6 1/2 lbs. I believe I calculated the dose correctly. ## Can the Amoxicillin 400 mg (bmp 196) green tablets be crushed and mixed with food to give to my dog? ## How much amoxicillin tr k clv 500/125 is safe for an 8lb dog? She has skin irritation after her cycle. ## Hello, According to the NIH "The recommended dose of amoxicillin in dogs and cats is 5-10mg/pound" so a dog who is 80 lbs should have 400-800 mg. Since this is such a wide gap I suggest you call into your vet office and see what they suggest, typically if they have your animal on file they will have a good estimate of what they should have. Best wishes and happy holidays.

My 90lb. Dog has a bacterial skin infection, how many milligrams of Doxycycline should I give her?? ## Generally, they are given 2mgs to 5mgs, per pound of body weight, doses every 12 or 24 hours. So, your dog should be getting 180mgs to 450mgs following the dosing schedule of your veterinarian. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, drowsiness and diarrhea in dogs. I have a full bottle of these pills and my dog has a bladder infection. He is 126 lbs. Can I give him these? They expire in June so I won't be using them. ## Hi smokey, Based on my research, it should be ok for your dog as long as you're administering the correct dosage. The recommended dosage of Amoxicillin + Clavulanic acid is listed at 12.5mg (per kilogram of body weight). That amount is to be taken twice daily for treating most general infections (including UTI's). If you have any other questions pertaining to proper dosing or administration, you may also want to contact a local veterinary office, since they are well versed in this field of study. I hope this info helps and wish your dog a quick recovery! ## Hello, my 10 pound maltese has an ear infection. I have leftove...

How much liquid methadone can i give to my 80 lb dog by mouth? I know that vets have given dogs methadone for pain but I just don't understand when they say you give them 0.1- 0.5 ml per kg.... Can you break it down for me in milligrams per lb if possible please? ## The information below may serve as a general guideline based on the details provided in your post. However because you didn't mention what dose of methadone your pet is prescribed [it should state on the Rx label], there's no way for me to assume how many milligrams are in a 0.1 or 0.5mL serving. That said, I would still encourage you to discuss this with the prescribing veterinarian just to be on the safe side. 1 kg = 2.2 lbs So it would be translated to 0.1mL per 2.2 lbs or 0.5mL per 2.2 lbs 2.2 lbs goes into 8...

What is the dosage for a 40 lb dog with a severe bladder infection? How long does it need to be taken? ## Hi Bunny, From what I could gather, the standard dose of Amoxicillin for dogs is reportedly 5 mg for every pound the dog weighs [administered every 12 hours], or 10 mg per pound [administered every 24 hours]. I haven't come across any specific details concerning the duration of treatment, but I'd imagine that it would differ on a case by case basis depending on the type and severity of the infection. Nevertheless, I think it would ultimately be your safest bet to have a veterinarian determine which dosing regimen to go by after evaluating the dog in person. Hope this helps! ## My two dogs had a fight , both 130-135 lbs. They both were bit in the leg an head. I put triple ant...

My boxer of 38kg has been given purbac by his vet when he had some epulous (sp) removed. The instructions was 2 twice per day for 10 days but I now realize they have only given me 20 tabs and not 40. Is the dosage correct and they have miscounted the tabs or is the dosage incorrect? 500mg white tabs. Vet closed for holidays. ## The vet prescribed purbac for my dog. My yorkie weighs 1.4 kg. The vet prescribed 1.5 ml purbac and I feel that is too much. What is the recommended dosage of purbac to give my dog? ## My vet prescribed Purbac for my dog (I am an Italian Greyhound Breeder). My beagle keeps a yeast infection in his ears all the time. No matter how many times I take him to the vet, it goes away for a week or two and it's back again. He has seizures and also he weighs 60 pounds, now I know he's overweight but I need to know how much bactrim I can give him to clear up his ear infection. I cannot take him to the vet right now I just don't have the cash for that. So any information you could give me would be greatly appreciated. ## Bactrim is an antibiotic, it can only treat bacterial infections, it will not treat yeast infections. It can be used in dogs, according to NIH reports, and is safe for them, but it should not be given, without a veterinarians approval. It can also cause side effects in dogs, such as nausea, dizziness, skin rash, and diarrh...

How often do I give gabapentin to my dog? She is 35 pounds. Do I give it to her every 8 hours? ## Please please please have your vet prescribe your dogs dosage and don't try to go it on your own! Human gabapentin has xylitol in it and is TOXIC to dogs!!!!!! ## Ps normal dosage is 1.4 mg for every pound your dog weighs once per day- again NOT human gabapentin. ## My dog is very stiff in the morning and has a hard time moving for 2hrs. My dog is also on four meds for heart disease. I'm afraid gabapentin might do more harm than good. My dog is 13 pounds, age 12-14 not sure. What do you think I should do?Thanks.

According to benadryldosage.com, Benadryl dosage administration is something that most people should make sure they know properly if they ever want to use the drug properly. I know that the use of this drug varies by weight and it am so much in love with this drug basically because of is effectiveness. It works whenever symptoms of allergies do occur to my dogs and I always not bothered because of its effectiveness. Another person using Benadryl for your dogs?, let me hear from you.

What is the normal dosage for a person weighing 114 pounds? I was given a prescription for 960 twice daily for 10 days. ## Hi Lee, Unfortunately there aren't any dosing instructions for this medication that are based on someone's weight. Usually, your doctor or pharmacist is the one who provides you with dosing instructions upon writing/receiving your prescription. He/she prescribed you a certain dosage based on their evaluation of you, your medical records, and other individual factors. So if something doesn't seem right about it, then you really need to go discuss this with your doctor before moving forward with treatment. What type of infection are you taking it for? ## Actually it was for my dog,David.. The way I worded the question was misleading. I was upset at the tim...

I have the 800mg/160mg pills and want to cut them up to give to a dog with a UTI but I am unsure which mg dose I use to figure out how much to give to a 10# dog. My chiweenie was taking 1/2 Deramaxx 25mg once daily until the backorder began. I have 100mg tablets Rimadyl, would it be safe to quarter these and give her a quarter once daily? Thanks! ## Hi Migisi, If you feel that the vet prescribed a heavy dosage, then yes, I'd suggest cutting the pill into fractions when necessary, if not but to see how your dog responds to it. Even if there's not score/break lines on the pill I'd give it a try. The only time I don't recommend doing that is if the drug itself is an extended release version, because I'm not sure how that may affect it's chemistry. I hope this helps! ## Thanks David!

My 80lb dog has a staph infection and i can't afford his med for another treatment. Can i give him my Amoxil and how much? ## Hello Jc! How are you? I would suggest asking his veterinarian, since they are familiar with the use of such medications in animals. Val-Torb was given to my mini doxie for a chronic condition. He weighs 16 lbs and the dosage was 1.5mls 3 times a day but it made him horribly sick and shaky. As soon as I took him off he was OK. I think my 50 lb bassett puppy swallowed one of my pain pills (hydrocodone). Will this harm her? ## Have you contacted your veterinarian? I am afraid that my medication knowledge doesn't extend to its use or safety in animals. There are many drugs that cross over, but due to an animal's metabolism, the dosages must be carefully adjusted. Since she is just a small puppy and this contains a narcotic, I'd suggest checking with a veterinarian. How is she? ## Most people I know take 10 to 12 / 8 mg. Dillaudids a day intravenously!! They won't kill you!! Plus you can do at least 6 to 8 / 30 mg. Oxys just for good measure!!!
