I have a York is with cancer and can't afford to go to the vet. She weighs about 8 pounds and I have some 4 mg tabs of dilaudid can I give her 1 mg for her pain, she is contently licking that area. Since this is such a wide gap I suggest you call into your vet office and see what they suggest, typically if they have your animal on file they will have a good estimate of what they should have. So, your dog should be getting 180mgs to 450mgs following the dosing schedule of your veterinarian. My 30lb terrier mix is in heart failure and has been taking one half a pill once daily for approx 6 months. Last night and today her cough is constant. I cannot get ahold of her Vet. My chiweenie was taking 1/2 Deramaxx 25mg once daily until the backorder began. I have 100mg tablets Rimadyl, would it be safe to quarter these and give her a quarter once daily? Thanks! ## Hi Migisi, If you feel that the vet prescribed a heavy dosage, then yes, I'd suggest cutting the pill into fractions when necessary, if not but to see how your dog responds to it. Even if there's not score/break lines on the pill I'd give it a try. Val-Torb was given to my mini doxie for a chronic condition. He weighs 16 lbs and the dosage was 1.5mls 3 times a day but it made him horribly sick and shaky. As soon as I took him off he was OK. Has anyone out there had a problem with this medication? ## What this stands for is Valium, which is a Benzodiazepine that's used for its calming effect and Torbutrol (Butorphanol), which is used to relieve pain. I am afraid that my medication knowledge doesn't extend to its use or safety in animals. There are many drugs that cross over, but due to an animal's metabolism, the dosages must be carefully adjusted. Since she is just a small puppy and this contains a narcotic, I'd suggest checking with a veterinarian. How is she? ## Most people I know take 10 to 12 / 8 mg. Dillaudids a day intravenously!! They won't kill you!! Plus you can do at least 6 to 8 / 30 mg. Oxys just for good measure!!!
