Does Amox Expire

I have a prescription that expired 12/29/2015 and I do not have insurance at this time. I never took the prescription and now I need it for strep and an ear infection. It's very doubtful, especially if it is in one of the bottles that pharmacies use, because even in the original factory sealed bottle, the maximum shelf-life of most pills is only 4 or 5 years. Taking an expired antibiotic is also not a good idea, since it creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Recently ive been sick for 4 days with tonsilitis...i cant go to my family dr as i dont have an appt so i have no choice but to take amoxicillin from phil., which expired last sept of this year. I am dealing with an infection from a spider bite on my right jaw.My molars and gums that line up with my jaw are so painful. I am taking some expired Hydrocodone that my mom had. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic and, as such, it can actually cause a yeast infection, it will not clear one up. It is only effective for bacterial infections and a yeast infection is caused by fungal growth. Learn more Augmentin information here. I have some amoxicilina 500 mg. july 2008 can it be used ## Hi mary, I honestly wouldn't recommend using any expired antibiotics that are more than a couple months old. That's just me personally. Reason being is that certain ones can actually become toxic after the expiration date, making them more harmful than they are good. If it were any other type of drug I would say yes, as most properly stored medications can last up to 10-15 years beyond their expiration date (according to a study done by Harvard University). Do you have access to a doctor for a new prescription?

May i take it for a UTI? It expired 2014. ## Unless a specific bacteria is detected that can be treated by this medication, it is not usually the preferred on to treat a UTI. The one normally used most often is Nitrofurantoin, so it would be best to see your doctor and let them prescribe an appropriate antibiotic. I am self treating a sinus infection. Started with 3 days of Cephalexin which I had from an infected finger. Also have 4 days of Amox from my sister. New job and can't take off to go to the doctor. I know it's a pain to take off work to go to the doctor, but it's something that we all have to do sometimes.
