when reading about medicines and their TE codes with the FDA, I came across the term moiety of a medicine. Does this mean its bioavailability or does it mean something else? Thank you in advance for your attention and response. Jane ## See definition below: 'In chemistry, a moiety is a specific segment of a molecule. For example, aniline has a phenyl and an amino moiety. Ethidium bromide has both these. '

After looking up Klonopin under search for inactive ingredients, I immediately saw MANNITOL, a Sucrose based sugar/sugar substitute. Look it up on WiKip, it is one of the first lines. ## Thanks for the heads up on this Jank. I understand that there are a number of alternative sweeteners out on the market, many of which aren't actually good for our health. Upon researching 'Mannitol', it's unclear to me how much of this they put in our medications and whether this unknown amount is generally regarded as safe (Re: fda.gov/Food/IngredientsPackagingLabeling/GRAS/SCOGS). Controversially, Wikipedia notes possible serious side effects such as "worsening heart failure, electrolyte imbalances and low blood volume". Seeing some mixed information from the FDA and Wiki, perh...

Has it been specified in quantitative measures what constitutes "High Fat Foods" (e.g., 30 g/day)? Are we talking about two sticks of butter or two French Fries? ## @Miss Brown, When I hear the words "high fat" mentioned in a clinical context, as I have in college textbooks for nutrition, anything in excess of 30g/day seems to fit that bill. However in my opinion, a high fat diet could also constitute a lower or greater number depending on whether someone is on a specialized diet. Also, according to the FDA, "high fat" is defined as 50% of calories coming from fat. For this reason, I'd probably encourage you to get in touch with a registered dietician for more specific details. I know in my own day to day life, trying to stay fit, I tend to keep my fat intake...

I've been taking contrave for 3 months. I am having mild success. I've only lost five pounds. However, I'm not binge eating. It has also reduced my migraines. I'm scheduled for a routine evaluation for colonoscopy in about three weeks (turned 50). My doctor requested that I stop taking Contrave two weeks before the procedure. He cited new regulations that state patients should cease the use of weight loss drugs during this procedure. When I've researched this statement, the term "diet drugs" seems to be defined as ephedrine and Belviq. I know that Contrave is new and some doctors are unfamiliar with the new drug. The procedure does require sedation, but there will not be any other medication. Do I really need to stop taking Contrave before this procedure? If ...

I found theses in my 19 year old's pants pocket ## If there are no markings, it may be difficult to determine what this tablet contains. We can rule it out as being a U.S. prescription tablet, because they are all required to have unique imprints to enable their identification, however, it could be any one of a large number of over the counter items. There is also a small chance that it could be a foreign medication. Did you try asking your son about it? ## I am almost positive that it is a 2mg clonazepam/klonopin. I have one that it from Iran and it is a 2mg clonazepam perscribed primarily for anxiety issues, panic attacks, etc. It is definetely foreign though as you said and mine was from Iran so it might be a middle eastern country. ## My scrip is Hyomax FT .125 mg Hyoscyamine FO...

Them both in half the inside are the same yellow with the crystals .. Have anyone else seen a brighter yellow v/3601 norco I don't knw if this pharmacy giving fake pills?? But effect seem the same ## Hello, Mike! How are you? Actually, the PDR pictures do show this tablet in a couple different shades of yellow. There is no specific criteria that defines what the color should be and it can sometimes vary, depending on the manufacturing process at the specific place where they have been made. It is really nothing to worry about, as long as ...

I am healthy. @ what levels would I have to change the dosage of Acitrom between 3mg / 4mg? my PT level as of now is 3.51, & I am using Acitrom 4 mg. I found methamphetamine in my system but I only take Oxycodone from Actavis mfgr; pill number a215. How could that be? ## Gimbo, are you taking any other over the counter product (such as cold medicine) or an herbal / diet supplement? As far as I'm aware there should not be any methamphetamines in your system just from the Oxycodone since those are 2 completely different classes of drugs. ## That has happened to me and it was definetly a lab mistake because I've never taken that. That might be your problem too cuz labs mess up ALOT way more than you'd think.

hi i have been on Pristiq for three years as a result of suffering from major depressive episodes since I was a child (i am thirty six now) . After two months of one of the most severe episodes of major depression my helpful gp has advised me to try to get onto prozac to see if this helps with the situation ( suicidal thoughts, hitting rock bottom, barely able to function) I am day two of no Pristiq and half a tablet of prozac and I am dizziness, headaches and general lethagy, I also feel emotionally rock bottom but hey, that is nothing new! i am terrified of never feeling better and that my whole life is falling apart. I am so scared the rest of my life is going to be defined by this mental illness that has plauged me for so long. If anyone can shed so light on how to get through this ...

Should the color coating on a medication easily come off the pill, which is new and still in the prescription bottle? ## Hello, Megan! How are you? It really depends on what the manufacturer has used to create the coating, how thick it is, the storage conditions, and etc. The FDA provides lists of certain acceptable ingredients that a manufacturer can use, which they consider safe. They can choose from among those, but the thickness of the coating may be different, as well as the composition. Then the storage conditions come into play, if you've kept them in a warm, moist area, that could cause it to rub off easier, than if it were under optimal storage conditions that are defined by the FDA as being dry, dark, cool areas. For example, storing medications in your kitchen or bathroom...

Outpatient surgical procedure vs physician office visit with medication administration. There is a big difference in cost to the patient and insurance. Manufacturer lists this as a subcutaneous injection/implantation. It is done with a needle. My doctor is coding as outpatient hospital or surgical center procedure but his office is neither of these. Any advice? I am faced with $250 copay 4x a year. Thx ## Hi Sean, Looks like quite a predicament going on there between the definition of a surgical procedure and a simple inj. If you could, I would probably encourage you to speak with the front representative at your doctor's office and inform them of the mistake being made before it's too late to have a say in the matter. Webster's dictionary defines 'surgery' as - ...

Hepatitis Drug Category

Hepatitis (plural hepatitides) is a medical condition defined by the inflammation of the liver and characterized by the presence of inflammatory cells in the tissue of the organ. The name is from the Greek hepar (παρ), the root being hepat- (πατ-), meaning liver, and suffix -itis, meaning "inflammation" (c. 1727).[1] The condition can be self-limiting (healing on its own) or can progress to fibrosis (scarring) and cirrhosis. Hepatitis may occur with limited or no...

the u02 don't look like hydrocoden ## Hello, Lizzy! How are you? There is no defined way that this medications has to look, that is entirely up to the whit and whim of the manufacturer. And this tablet contains 7.5mgs of Hydrocodone and 325mgs of Acetaminophen. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

Hyskon Dextran

Dextran is a complex branched glucan (polysaccharide derived from the condensation of glucose), originally derived from wine. IUPAC defines dextrans as "Branched poly-α-d-glucosides of microbial origin having glycosidic bonds predominantly C-1 → C-6".[1] Dextran chains are of varying lengths (from 3 to 2000 kilodaltons). The polymer main chain consists of α-1,6 glycosidic linkages between glucose monomers, with branches from α-1,3 linkages. This characteri...
