Can I Use It For Gum Infection

I've been on amoxicillin for 3 days now for a gum infection.. within the first day my whole right side of my face swelled up and on the second day my eye was so swollen I could barely open it... its the third day and now not only am I dealing with all this swelling but now my gums are bleeding... is this normal? ## Hi micki, To be completely honest, the reactions you're experiencing don't seem "normal" by any means, but are unfortunately side effects of Amoxicillin. Started out with a gum infection and started taking amoxicillin 2 days ago. Went to the dentist and found out I had a root infection under my crown. He said he fixed that today and just take Tylenol since I'm pregnant. However, few hours later and I'm still in severe pain and can't touch the tooth. Is it normal for the actual tooth to hurt this much still? I figured I'd get a little relief. ## It may take a few days for all of the symptoms of the infection to go away, according to NIH reports, as well as my own experience. It does not appear that you posted the name of what your talking about in a specific forum or within your topic or description. If you could post back with this bit of info, I'd be more than happy to do some research on the indications and side effects of that particular drug. If you do have a tooth or gum infection, I would also suggest looking into getting some clove essential oil from your local health food store or online, and gargling or brushing your teeth with it for more immediate relief. Hi. I have gum infection due to my wisdom teeth. I am pregnant so I can get them extracted now . But my dentist prescribed Tylenol and amoxicillin now the question is my gum turned red like it was bloodshot after my first dosage of the antibiotics then the next day I discovered that it became really soft and had like a pulse... few hours later blood and what not came out of the pulse and it felt numb like I wasn't feeling any pain again but it's still swollen a bit . I have a infection under an old root canal. Dentist sent me to Endo who opened the tooth redid the root canal packed it and gave my amoxicillin 500x3 day. Pain the next day was so bad I went back to Endo and he took out the packing to let it drain. Went back two days later and he repacked the tooth. The packing fell out the same day and I had to leave the country for two weeks. I am scheduled to see a Endo when I get back to fill the root canal, I am now a week in and in Mexico and can’t bite without severe pain. Can I take 250 mg of Penicillin V every 6 hours for 20 days for a gum infection? ## Have you consulted your doctor, or dentist? The usual dose for this type of infection is 500mgs every 6 hours, for about 10 days. The lower dose may not be an effective amount, if the infection is very severe.

I went to the dentist Nov 30 for pain in my back molars. She found I have a gum infection from my gum growing over my teeth. I had my wisdom teeth out 3 years ago and I guess that's how they healed and food gets stuck in the gums. How long does it take for Amoxicillin to start to work? I am taking 500mg 3X a day. It's been 2 full days since I started Amoxicillin. I have a gum infection and I'm in extreme pain! I am taking (2) Tylenol #3 every 6-8 hours for the pain. ## According to the U.S. FDA, the generic rule for antibiotics is that if they are working, there shouldn't be any worsening after taking them for a full 24 hours, and you should start to see improvement after a full 3 days of taking them. It seems to me to be quite a high dosage, i.e., 2000 mg a day. I just need some guidance on this. ## It can vary, depending on the severity of the infection being treated and thus, can range from 2 to 4 doses daily. And you also have to remember that in this case, where it is a gum infection being treated, you have to eradicate the existing infection and prevent reinfection, since you have to eat every day and expose your gums to further possible contaminants.
