Breakthrough Bleeding

I used to take Low-Ogestrel as my birth control but then switched to the Brazilian equivalent of Femodene (it is called Diminut there but the hormone levels are the same as that of Femodene). I had no problems with my first pack, but towards the end of my second pack I started to experience breakthrough bleeding. It was light at first, but now I am almost halfway through my third pack and the bleeding is daily, continuous, and heavy. It is not a red flow but very dark and viscous. I do not know what to do to make it stop. It seemed to stop for a day after my actual period during the inactive time but then it started again and got worse. Should I stop taking this birth control? ## I am having the same problem with breakthrough bleeding taking Low-Ogestrel, and I have had the same problem...

I've been taking this pill for nearly 4 years and I've never had a problem until now. I am having my first ever breakthrough bleeding. I know a lot of people have them and I'm probably worried over nothing, but because it's never happened before it seems a bit out of the blue! It's super painful and I'm going through tampons every hour or so. It literally poured out at first. I bled during intercourse the last time as well, that was about a month ago. I'm not due for a checkup for 6 months and it's difficult to get appointments so I don't want to go for no reason... Any ideas? ## Hello, Biff! How are you doing? Has there been any change? You really need to go have this checked out. That severe bleeding is not normal breakthrough bleeding for oral cont...

Hey there! This is my first time on birth control. I've decided to go with Loestrin Fe. I started my period at 2am on a Monday, but didn't take it until 10:30 that night. It was twenty hours after I started, not 24, so it's okay! Anyway, I've been on my period the entire time. I started on April 7th and it's April 15th today. Before birth control, my period lasted six days. It's my eighth day and I'm still bleeding. Is this breakthrough bleeding and my body getting adjusted to the pill? Just making sure! I've taken the pill every night at 10:30pm so I haven't missed one. Thanks! ## Hello, Kaitlyn! How are you? Are you still experiencing bleeding? Yes, it could be due to the contraceptive, since you just started it. However, if it keeps going as a full...

I've been taking oralcon for two years now. I finished my period on 23 november and started with the white pill but on 4 december I started getting pains around my waist (period pains) and later I started to bleed so I decided to just take the red pill. Now I'm bleeding a lot should I continue with the red pill or should I start the white pill on a new packet. Please help angie ## Hello, Angie! How are you doing? If you are bleeding a lot, then you need to consult your doctor to have things checked out. Your natural hormone levels can change with time, so this contraceptive may no longer work well for you and you may need to try a different one.

I started taking Nur-Isterate 200g on 12/07/16 and on 07/09/16 l had my menses. What should l do? ## As reported by the U.S. FDA, that can be a normal side effect of this medication, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability and PMS-like symptoms. These side effects may continue for about 3 months, or so, before they go away. However, if they worsen, or don't go away, you should consult your doctor. Is there anything else I can help with?

Rather than wait another month I started first pack of Lo Loestrin Fe 2 days after my period ended (started Sunday). Then I started spotting lightly 2 weeks later (very dark brown and very light). Then another week later I got my period which was this past Saturday. It's now Wednesday and the period is very heavy in the am and then almost goes away all day and then heavy again at night. Is this normal? I feel like it's going to go on forever. Normally my period is 3-4 days max and super heavy which is why I started Lo Loestrin. ## Hello, Kimber! How are you? Yes, according to the FDA, such breakthrough bleeding can be normal and may occur, off an on, for the first 3 months, after starting a new oral contraceptive. Other side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizzi...

I started taking Lo Loestrin FE on 10/12/13, the Sunday after my last period. This Wednesday I started bleeding brown a little, but only when I wiped. Now it's Friday and I'm bleeding even more, but I shouldn't have my period for another week and a half. Is this just my body adjusting or should I stop taking it and as my gyno for something else? ## Hello, Katrina! How are you? Yes, it can take about 3 months for your body to get used to these hormonal contraceptives and breakthrough bleeding is very common during that time period. However, it is best to consult your doctor to be sure that there's nothing else unusual going on. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Yes thank you so much! I called my doctor and they said the same thing, and to not worry about it (but ...

I have been on this pill for over 2 years. The past few months I have had breakthrough bleeding at some time in the month. Can the pill start becoming ineffective? I am under a lot of stress right now and about to graduate college. ## Have you consulted your doctor? It should remain effective, as long as you are taking it daily, as you are supposed to do. However, the stress can have some effect on the hormones in your body and may cause menstrual irregularities, such as breakthrough bleeding, even if you weren't taking hormonal contraceptives. ## Talk to your doctor. I have been on loestrin 24 fe for almost 4 years and have been having similar issues over the last 6 months or so. My doctor said its still effective but sometimes your body/medication rhythm just needs to be "rese...

i started my first pack on the first day of my period on the 18th and though my period usually only lasts about 4 days, i've been lightly albeit consistently bleeding ever since. it's now 10 days later and i'm going nuts. my boyfriend is coming back from traveling for over a year next week and i'd really like to not be still spotting gross brown discharge when he gets here. will it stop or am i doomed to 3 months of this? ## Hello, Emz! How are you? Sorry about the problem that you're having. This doesn't mean that it will continue for all 3 months, but it is possible. Have you contacted your doctor? You might want to do so, just to be sure and to see what they say you should do. ## I started taking loloestrin 10 mcg on 12/1/14, had no bleeding for a week and the...

I don't usually get a period taking this pill so I'm not sure if I could be pregnant or not... I'm don't always take my pills on time and I had intercourse 11 days ago and today (6 days before my period "should" come) I notices slight bleeding that is a light pinkish & dark brown. After doing research I read that implantation bleeding usually occurs 3-6 days before your period is supposed to come but also ready that the pill and cause breakthrough bleeding. Thoughts? ## Hello, Abyss! How are you? It's really just a guessing game, at this point, it could be either/or. The only thing you can really do is wait and see if you do get your period and if you don't, have a pregnancy test done. However, if you didn't totally skip any pills, then the chance...

I am 1 week out from finishing my first pack of Loestrin 24 Fe. I started the pill on the first day of my period and have taken the pill at the exact same time everyday. Before the pill, my period came at the same time every month for five days. However, I have not stopped bleeding since I started taking this pill. I require a pad/tampon at all times I am bleeding so much. Now starting the last week of pills it looks like my "period" is starting. Will the bleeding ever stop? My GYN gave me the standard "stick it out for 3 packs". This may sound crazy, but how am I ever supposed to have intercourse when I'm bleeding every day? And for 3 months of this??? Has anyone else experienced this? ## I am very sorry about the problem that you're having. Yes, your doctor is ...

please explain window period and breakthrough bleed in context of taking DRONIS 20? ## In relation to birth control, a window period usually refers to the period of time when you should take the tablets, each day. You should try to take them at the same time, but you do have a window period of several hours to take them, before it would be enough time where you would have to treat it the same as missing a pill. Breakthrough bleeding refers to any type of bleeding that may occur, while your body is getting used to the hormones in the tablets. It may appear as just light bleeding, commonly called spotting, or it may be heavier and seem like a normal period flow. Are there any other questions I can help you with?

I have been on Lexamil for three weeks now. I am also on Jasmine. I have been bleeding for the past two weeks now and am not sure if it is a side effect of the Lexamil or not ## Hi, Leigh! Very sorry about the issue you're having, I know that's very annoying and inconvenient. The breakthrough bleeding is most likely from the Jasmine/Yasmin, since it is a hormonal based contraceptive. Such irregularities can occur for the first 3 months you're taking it, as your body is getting used to it and they may occur at other times, since there are many things that can affect your hormone levels, such as stress and weight loss. How long have you been taking it?

I started taking Lo Loestrin FE on Feb. 2nd and it is now Feb. 21st and I have been bleeding non-stop (literally all day, every day). Doctor says to wait it out for 3 months... 3 months of non-stop bleeding? I've heard of breakthrough bleeding but this crazy! ## While I agree that it is crazy and unacceptable, yes, even if it lasts for a long time, continuously, they still consider that to be just breakthrough bleeding. However, you should give it at least a full month, to see if your body adjusts to these pills. If you are still bleeding by the time you start your second pill pack, you should call and insist on a change and if they don't agree, you may want to consider seeing a different doctor. To be honest, there is no reason for a woman to have to put up with it, for that lo...

I began taking Sprintec on the Sunday my period began. I bled the entire week. I spotted for a week and then began bleeding again the third week. I was taking the pills at the same time everyday, but recently started taking them earlier. I have finished all of the blue pills and I'm beginning the white pills that have no hormones. Will I be menstruating for another whole week? ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? I'm sorry, I know that can be very annoying. How long have you been taking it? You can usually experience breakthrough bleeding for the first 3 months, while our body is getting used to the hormones, if it continues beyond 3 months, then you may need to try a different oral contraceptive. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, headache, irritabil...

I've been on Lo Lostrin for about 5 months. I take the pill at the same time everyday. I've been heavily bleeding for 3 days now. I called my Gyno & she never called back. I don't use any other protectionbesides this. Im having bad cramps in my lower back and stomach and also in my lower area. Should i be concerned? Need help, fast. ## Hello, Kayla! How are you doing? Sorry about the problem that you're having. This is a hormonal contraceptive, so it can cause some unexpected breakthrough bleeding, though it is unusual for it to be happening this many months along. Has your doctor returned your call, yet? One option they may have you try is stopping it for a few days, to see if the bleeding slows and stops, but that would also mean you'd have to use some other for...

i have been taking the oralcon pill for more than a year but expreince breakthrough bleeding is that normal? ## Hi, Sauls! How are you? Yes, breakthrough bleeding is normal whenever you are using any type of hormonal based contraceptive, which is what these are. It's just due to the hormonal fluctuations in your body. You should check in with your doctor to be certain, but it's usually nothing to be concerned about if your most recent exam was normal and the bleeding is light and infrequent. Is there anything else I can help with?
