I AM TAKING ARTHREXIN TABLETS FOR LOWER BACK PAIN FOR THE LAST 13 YEARS BUT AFTER A STROKE [12/11/14] I WAS TOLD TO STOP TAKING IT. HOWEVER THE LOWER BACK PAIN STARTED AGAIN.... CAN I TAKE ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDS [ARTHREXIN] TOGETHER WITH ALL THE MEDS FOR HBP AND CHOLESTEROL [LIKE STATINS]? ## My husband has always taken Arthrexin for his joint pains. He is now on Warfarin and would like to know if he can take them together as the doctor has strongly advised against this and nothing else seems to work. ## Hello, Avi and Linda! How are you both? No, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories can be very risky in both situations and should be avoided. If something for pain is needed, each respective doctor should be consulted to discover what medication can be taken safely. Is there anything else I ...

Is it safe to take my pain meds (for my back injury) 2 days before I have a biopsy? Is it safe? Or is THAT considered an anti inflammatory medication? ## Hello, Kandy! How are you? No, this is not an anti-inflammatory. The FDA classifies it as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Thus, it should be fine, unless your doctor has instructed otherwise. Is there anything else I can help with? ## No thanks.....I went without it for the week. But thank you for answering my question. ## Having bilateral knee surgery in Two days is it OK to take hydrocodone\ acetaminophen before surgery won't increase chance of bleeding?

I pulled a muscle on the left side of my lower back and I want to know if I can take an anti-inflammatory medication since I have had a bleeding stomach 2 yrs ago (because I took too many anti-inflammatory meds) before my back surgery. ## Hi Gus, Sorry to hear about your previous experience on anti-inflammatory drugs. Is this NSAID's in particular or does it pertain to natural remedies as well? If you haven't already done so, I would encourage you to investigate certain alternatives such as Turmeric, CBD oil, or maybe even Kratom for pain relief, as I've never heard of any ill effects from those substances in and of themselves... Have you also discussed any of these concerns with a doctor?

What are the best anti-inflammatories that work on intestinal pain? Please list the brand names of these medications and rate them according to their efficacy (effectiveness). ## Unfortunately the only way to find out what works best for you and what doesn't is through the process of trial and error and working with your doctor. There may be meds that are stronger or more effective than others in eliminating the pain, but if it causes too many side effects then what good will it do in the long run? Trial and error will help you narrow down your preferences. NSAID's (aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac, naproxen, motrin, indomethacin), opiates/opioids, muscle relaxers, anxiety medication, natural alternatives (turmeric / kratom / CBD / THC), probiotics, digestive enzymes, etc, have al...

Typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include loss of appetite, vomiting, diarrhea and seizures. It was actual originally also approved for human use, but it was pulled from the market for human ingestion years ago. Is there anything else I can help with?

Have been off acetaminophen with codeine for 24 hours. Can I safely switch to naproxen sodium 220 mg? ## You can, if you've been instructed to do so by your medical provider, but you should be away that it is not going to help you pain as much, since the Naproxen is just a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and stomach irritation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosis spondylitis in 1998. By 2000 I was so crippled I could barely walk. Anti-inflammatory meds were dropping my weight and not working. Methotrexate gave me heart murmurs and made me pass out. Remicade was new, not much was known about it, i figured it was worth a try. After my 1st infusion I felt better, I went into remission but stayed on every 8 weeks. Amazing for 10-15 years. At 1 point I had an insurance change, switched doctors. She took me off remicade because I was in remission, also she didn't like the drug and thought it was much too inconvenient to sit through infusions. She felt I didn't need it. I didn't mind sitting through infusions... Within a month I was flaring, tried enbrel, almost died from methotrexate,...

I will be having wisdom teeth pulled. I would like to know what options are availiable for non narcotic pain relief. Preferably the strongest. I will be able to get a prescription, but I would like to avoid opiates or opioids. ## Wow, that's kind of difficult, because knocking out the opiates leaves only options for minimal pain relief. In many cases, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory would be prescribed, such as just a strong dose of Ibuprofen, but that can depend on how complicated the extractions are and how much you're bleeding afterwards. Learn more Ibuprofen details here. Are they being done in office, or as surgical extractions?

I have been prescribed diclofen 50mg 3 times/day. This cuts my pain a bit but I still suffer much even trying to walk. Can the dosage be increased or can I take this with other pain meds? If so what other meds? ## Diclofenac is classified by the FDA as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory that's used to treat pain, fever and swelling. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation. It can be taken with more other pain relievers, except other NSAIDs and Diclofenac itself can be dosed up to 150mgs a day. Have you consulted your doctor? They'll be able to advise you as to what would be safest for you.

Personal decision to discontinue pain meds a year ago..to see if I could without. I did it, but having 24/7 pain is no longer tolerable and am going back to pain doctor to see if he will RX meds again. Am unable to take anything with aspirin, anti-inflammatory meds, or Fibro meds made for this condition of Fibro. Opioids are the ONLY meds I have ever been able to tolerate, & most doctors will not go this route. So my condition is about to become intolerable AGAIN !. I look & feel like a zombie trying to ambulate. I have reactions to all Fibro meds & to aspiring and antiinflammatoies. So am very limited in what , if any meds, I CAN tolerate. There aren't many meds out there for someone like me. But cannot envision spending the rest of my life in this chronic pain. I'm...

I HAVE BEEN TAKING ALL TYPES OF ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDS AND ORALGEL MAXIMUM STRENGTH SO WHAT ELSE CAN I TAKE? I'M DESPERATE. IT REALLY HURTS, TILL I GET THIS TOOTH PULL NEXT SATURDAY. ## Clove oils and bc powders are the best. You can buy them over the counter. I use a brand called goody's. I also suck on ice when it gets so bad nothing works, cause I go through this very often. All my teeth are bad, and damaged at the roots. ## You can try Krys's ideas, but otherwise there isn't a lot anyone can suggest, since we don't know the specifics of what NSAIDs you've been taking, and how much of them you've taken. Orajel is usually good, but it doesn't tend to last long, since your saliva tends to wash it away very quickly. The ice might not be a good idea for ev...

I'm researching pain meds for my knee pain after a replacement. ## Naproxen is an nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory. Naproxen is the generic name for Aleve, The difference is that Aleve is OTC because it is only 220 mg and Naproxen is prescription because it is 500 mg. Vicodin is a combination of hydrocodone and tylenol. Hydrocodone is a narcotic and can be addicting. You must have a prescription to get Vicodin. ## @original post, No, Naproxen is not stronger than Vicodin. Although it could probably compare to the acetaminophen in Vicodin, the hydrocodone is still a far more potent pain reliever in and of itself. If you're unsure of which medication to take for pain relief, I think it would be wise to ask your doctor/surgeon for their opinion on what might be most appropriate for y...

Diagnosed triple negative inflammatory breast cancer 9-17-12. Been taking 2 antidepressants since the 80s. No one looked at my meds before putting in my port or starting 18 chemos. They gave me Lorazepam everytime. The mixture of Lorazepam with the antidepressants made my bowels and stomach hurt like it was crushed glass I had eaten. 8 days in hospital after 3rd chemo. No one caught the drug interaction so I was given more Lorazepam in the hospital and when the gastro did colonoscopy and endoscopy. Gastro gave me Lorazepam before scoping me. Again no drug check. Pain continued for 2 years. Bowel movements made me vomit from the pain. Oncologist had no clue about drug interactions. I saw 8 doctors in 3 hospitals and none could recognize a severe drug interaction. Why? They view Ativan as...

My daughter has been stealing my meds (meloxicam) and I was wondering is she addicted or is the medication getting her high to where she keeps stealing them? ## No, this is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory, so it is not commonly abused, since it doesn't cause the effects of opiates, or stimulants. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding, and stomach irritation. However, if it is making her dizzy, she might think that she's getting high from it. Have you spoken to her about it? ## My son is also taking the same thing I an underhanded method he has acquired them. He is 16 . This couldn't be just for pain he would ask me for something. I am also concerned. ## My son has been insufflating these pills an...

I have sciatic nerve issues that literally shoot from my hip/back down to my foot. My Dr will only give me an anti-inflammatory with tramadol which does nothing. I need to find a doctor that will give me some relief with pain meds. ## I'm very sorry that you're in pain. What type of doctor have you been seeing? Due to the new directives set forth by the DEA last year, most general practitioners are very reluctant to prescribe controlled substances, anymore. Thus, you'll likely need to see a pain management specialist. Tramadol, however, is classified by the FDA as an opioid now, so it does carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and constipation. Is there a chance your current doctor could refer you to ...

Capsule yellow/clear. white granules ## This is Indomethacin Sustained Release 75mgs, a generic for Indocin, this is a Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory. The problem here is that this is an older pill, it was manufactured by Able Labs, who were shut down in May 2005 by the FDA for poor quality control. Some of their meds have no active ingredient, and some had too much, resulting in dangerous amounts in some of their pills and capsules. So your best bet would be to FLUSH this one.
